Re: Ingram at 28!!!
You can still write it but...
Name calling doesn't really show your maturity well.
I would argue we didn't trade out of the "sweet spot" of the draft, rather we traded into this years "sweet spot" and hopefully picked up a pick which could put us into next year's draft "sweet spot"
Could not agree more.
It's still 1st round money. 2nd round money is a steep drop off. I am not sure what it is right now, but a few years ago the average guaranteed salary for a first round pick was 11,000,000 something, and 2nd round was 1,900,000.
That spells HUGE savings.
This allows us to keep quite a few 2nd round picks on the roster for a long time. Talk about maximizing your value!
I hope Brady plays for a long long time, but, that being said, it is something to consider.
No Heyward or Wilkerson at 33?
Egg on the face of the Patriots FO. No one there that I like.
Wasted 1st round pick
I can't BB wasted a first on a special teamer CB. Absolute bust. Might be good for a few returned kicks, but no way he'll ever be a starter or even make the Pro Bowl.
I wonder if we get P. Thomas tomorrow. Maybe for a conditional pick.
This isn't a critique of the trade, but if you follow the theory that trading a pick for one the year later means it's worth one round higher, then the value of the Saints picks was exactly the value of the Patriots first rounder assuming the saints get the 3rd seed in the NFC (i.e. assuming the Saints pick is about 28 or 29 next year).
so, valuewise, the trade was even.
That's why I believe Belichick did not like ANY player there, and he probably has his eye on Sheard, Houston or a guard.
welp ... that is it .... guess we are headed for just another 14-2 season .... how dissapointing!
Also, Wanted to comment on trading down. I really dont mind trading out of 28. Not a huge difference between that pick and an early second rounder. But, It would be nice to move up one of these days.
I know this was a joke....right?
Holy crap, if there is no one there you like we should just pass on all of our picks.
I think at some point the Pats will end up packaging their picks to move up, be it for a quarterback or a d lineman, I have no idea. At some point they may want to grab another QB. Just don't know at this point.
Reggie Bush think's he's done in New Orleans, I'd take a look at him.
I always thought he was an overrated media creation.
And who do you like at 33 over Heyward, Wilkerson, and Ingram?
Wanna use at least one of the thirds tomorrow to maneuver one of the lower 2nd rounders nearer to the lower 30s.
Would like to trade the #33 also, I want three 1st rounders for next year to get Andrew Luck in 2012.
A 3-4 DE is a huge need, and now there is no one to pick....
Grid, never let your detractors stop you my eccentric friend. I've got your back. The Solder pick was scheme-perfect and the trade-out fortified the future rounds. I can't wait to see how the future rounds play out. Not to sound like a douche (and, yeah, this is gonna sound douchey) I'm glad to see that many of the projections we harped on remained true. Especially Jordan. As much as I hate self reverence I was executing a perfect celebratory booty dance when Jordan was taken by a 43 team.
