For all those who are complaining that now we have no one to stretch the field and that our passing game will obviously become non existent....answer this question, because we had a pretty good passing game both of those years

They had a better defense that year, and better coaches.

Thank u very much. They had better coaches.

The MVP of Super Bowl XXXIX.

Troy Brown and Deion Branch?

Troy Brown?!? You might have meant David Patten or possibly David Givens. Brown was never, ever a deep threat.

We managed to use various plays and play calling to gain yardage in an unstretched field. Apparently it can be done.

Deion Branch stretched the field.

My God, have we forgotten about Branch catching long downfield bombs during the playoffs?

I have no doubt that Tate is going to get better and hopefully become a Branch for us. Welker will do Troy Brown.

Hernandez can easily do David Givens.

Hopefully BenJarvus will turn into Corey Dillon.

BUT, make no mistake: the success of the running game the other night, with 6 men in the box, occurred because of the attention the Phins were paying to Randy Moss.

Two more scary thoughts: I always said that getting Moss made up for losing Branch, but I say that no more. Branch = 2006 Super Bowl win.

Second thought, if we had this year's version of Benjarvus Green Ellis running for us against the Giants in 2007, we win that Super Bowl as well. The Giants were begging us to do what we did to the Dolphins.

Branch, Givens, Patten and Brown... Thats a pretty good group.
No superstar, but a solid group.

In 2003 the Patriots offensive ranks were:

Yards: 17th (9th/27th for pass/run)
Points: 12th

I don't understand why people have to pretend that 03/04 had the perfect everything. That was a rare combination of total team talent from coaching to players in all aspects of the game. Our offense may be better today than 03 without Moss but our coaching and defense is not close.

However, if Moss was becoming a problem then hey no one is above the team and that's that.

apart from superior coaches and defense, how was our division then ? how many teams were really competing agaisnt ? now its colts/steelers/baltimore/jets/san diego...

different times, different teams IMO. just because we won one way doesnt mean there is no scope of improvement otherwise every team wouldve won with avg to okay receivers

exactly, branch streched the field...and hes NOT a deep threat

which means we dont need the 2nd best WR in NFL history to stretch the field
price/tate can easily do it

Better Coaches
Better Defense
Belichick was at the height of his mastery
Better Team

Not much more can be said here

forget the team, and forget the offense as a whole too

all im talking about is sterching the field

and telling some of these people that a wr that can stretch the field IS replaceable

and honestly the last two years thats all randy's been, a stetch the field decoy

Well yeah there's not a single player that is irreplaceable. There is not a single player who has won every single superbowl.

Saying "that's all" that Randy's been is a bit of a 'stretch' though

Deion Branch was a significantly more credible deep threat than anyone the Pats have right now. They also had Charlie Weis behind the curtain, which is a not-insignificant matter. That doesn't even mention the difference in defenses.

Look at the whole package. We had four proven wide receivers back then. Now we have two.

Two? Other than Welker (coming off major knee surgery) who is a proven wide receiver?

Branch was no Moss, but no one is. But there is no Branch in what is left after the Moss departure. Do we forget how Brady absolutely loved throwing to Branch? How Brady talked about how they were so in sync that he knew what Branch was going to with a simple nod of the head.

Hopefully BenJarvus will turn into Corey Dillon.

Will he even start when Taylor returns? I hope he does, he's clearly shown he's learned RB vision from this year to last.

I see this team being more run balanced with two TE sets and burning teams with a play action to speedy tate.
