First time they didn't get a week of practice with the team they were going to face.....and they got their ass beat.

Ugh, just frustrating.

We all know BB is going to rip them, which is always nice to get them in check.

The defense couldn't even stop the Ram's 2nd defense. :lol2:

the Colts lost 50 something to 20 something...they must suck too

Passing defense especially the DBs need a long, long, long film session and lots of fundementals drilled into them.

Brace looked much better before he got doubleteamed. The D-Line didn't look like they were up to snuff for most of the night and when they finally got into things they were being let down by the LBs and DBs.

LBs need to step up and get their heads into the game. Penalties should not be happening.

DBs have to tackle better. As the old saying goes: there is no excuse for bad fundementals.

O-Line needs to find someone to back up Light because Volmer was a dud there. Volmer is a great LT but as a RT he was getting brushed back and gave up a big sack for a loss that sucked the steam out of the drive.

RBs...what the hell was wrong with them tonight? Morris I understand needed to be handled with kid gloves but still should have contributed more. Law Firm had better redeem himself next week or else he won't make the roster. I know he has his supporters but he stunk up the joint even against 3rd stringers.

Brady played well. Welker is back to form. Moss was back to form. Gronk hopefully can keep up the great work and beat out the vet. Tate? There is a reason he was considered a 2nd or even 1st round talent in college- he sure showed it tonight.

Mesko needs better coverage. He screwed up a couple of punts but I'd give him the benefit of the doubt there considering he saved a TD on a great punt that the punt team let slip by.

I thought the DL look tired from the outset tonight. I don't know why they would be tired unless they have been putting in a lot of work but I am not going to freak out over one performance.

Gronk is just unreal, the guy is a beast and he is going to be a superstar in this league. Brady must be creaming himself thinking about having a target like that.

Tate looks solid too.

And Randy looks back to where he was in '07.

Delighted with the OL tonight but again I'm not gonna get carried away, after all it was the Rams and its only one game.

Oh yeah and Mesko is just awesome too.

Offense will be good. The addition of the TE's as an offensive threat will be awesome. O-line will be fine. Brady looks real good. Moss looks real good.

Defense: no pass rush. Blitz hit or miss. Secondary looks awful. Brace played better. Defense will be a concern. They will get better, but lots 'gonna be on Brady's back. This team will have to score a lot of points to win this season.

Belichick didn't look all that happy tonight. I have a feeling that there's going to be a lot of gassers run this week as well as some berating in film study.

I never thought you could win this game Rams are awesome :)

That jest aside, dont give the game a second thought, not worth your time. I can bet you they threw the kitchen sink at your guys for the win, while the Pats played vanilla, from my prospective.

jest #2 : after all we lost to a lesser team in foxboro a couple weeks ago, we gave it no mind :)

tho you might want to put up the troll gates on this one, I can hear the pitter patter of green feet commin.

Offense:

1. Brady looked comfortable, even with guys falling at his feet. Dare I say nimble at one point. The sack he took was only after Neal let his guy through when either the ball should have already been out or he saw in his peripheral vision that Brady was moving to his right.

2. Morris looked slow to me, may be it was all of the outside run attempts, which are not his forte.

3. No Edelman, no Hernandez, basically asking Moss and Tate to run fly patterns or stops, and easing Welker back...and they still were able to make plays. I like it.

4. No Maroney puzzles me a bit. I like him but can live without him...Just wish we knew what was really going on.

5. Didn't watch the o-line terribly closely, but wasn't discouraged by the first unit. The Rams did get pressure a bit more than I would have expected but they also blitzed more than I would have expected.

Defense:

1. The corners looked like they were hung out to dry a bit by the safeties on some zone coverages. Either they were late getting there or the corners let the man get free too easily. Hard to tell which but the Rams wr's consistently found holes between the two levels of the defense. Methinks we'll see a bit more exotic coverage come 9/12.

2. The line got pushed around a little tonight. However Vince proved he is still a man amongst boys, shedding his block and scraping down the line and making plays when Wright, Warren, etc was beaten.

3. Brace and Wheatley made some plays...and also received medical attention. I hope they are all right as both could fill needs.

4. I have watched Darius Butler since his freshman year at UConn. He has always struggled with the ball in the air in man coverage. Some things just won't ever change and I am ok with that. However, I am disappointed in his tackling tonight. I root like crazy for this kid and know how talented he can be, I hope he puts it all together soon.

5. The pass rush is a concern going forward, everyone can see that. Hopefully Cunningham will get healthy and can help. The question is, when would he be ready? When will he get the reps?

Special Teams:

1. Tate. Wow.

2. Zoltan had a great punt, pinning the Rams inside the 5. A few of his punts didn't have great distance but had outstanding hang time.

3. Coverage units were blah.

Overall:
I think this team got knocked down a peg tonight. The Jets, Colts, and Ravens haven't exactly looked great this pre-season either. Teams are trying different things, combinations, schemes, what have you. We can begin to draw some conclusions about position battles and potential performance but I won't get too worked up one way or another until 9/12.

EDIT:
Also I remember hearing that this team had two very long practices Monday and Tuesday. I wonder if that contributed to the defense looking a bit slow and sluggish tonight. Also, with so many young/new players, have they hit a wall, physically and/or mentally that BB just has to get them over?

The defense just played a basic 3-4, there were no real stunts, no twists, no switching on the line. The OLB just blitzed off the edge time after time, no other blitzes were called. It's going to be an interesting week of practice and I will be interested to see how much more of a scheme they put together next week.

We really need someone to step up in a leadership role on D. They really could have used a Rodney Harrison/Tedy Bruschi type on the field tonight (and all of last season really). It's frustrating because it's not something you can really learn. You either have it or you don't.

It seems to me that Mayo isn't THAT guy disposition wise. Meriweather has some fire in his belly, as does Big Vince, but they have yet to really assert themselves in that way.

Spikes seems like the most natural of the bunch... but being a rookie, it'd be really hard for him to command the kind of respect needed.

I think the talent is there... they just need someone to get them all on the same page. Put some fight in them even.

Heard the BB presser while driving home from the game. Man, was he PISSED.

Really, the only good news was that this game didn't count. That's it.

I think it should be noted that there is a good possiblity that someone gets cut tommorrow or this week, that noone is expecting to shake up the troops. I now think it isa possibility Burgess gets cut at the end of camp.

BB hates when the team comes out flat in exhibition games, because it makes it a lot tougher to get real evaluations.

I'll say this.... I don't think anyone earned a spot on defense tonight, with the possible exception of Brace (Not that I thought he was in danger, but some did). Other than that, I think tonight we saw some players putting their futures in jeopardy, but nobody going the Carpe Diem route.

And what's the deal with Cunningham? Are we ever going to see him or is this a Shawn Crabel situation all over again?
It's Shawn Crabel situation all over again. Cunningham will get cut tomorrow.

This this was far and away the most one-sided one point loss in the history of football.

Assuming the injury isn't serious, I think Wheatley is busy playing his way onto the roster.
