OT: Brandon Marshall to Miami for 2010 2nd and 2011 2nd

As for Marshall, he seems to be excited to be in Miami. At his Presser he owned up to making mistakes in the past instead of trying to make excuses, and said he has changed. I don't really see him as a diva, Favre is way more of a diva than Marshall. His problems in Denver were with the Broncos. Mike Nolan also left Denver, and came to Miami as well. You know he put in good word with the Phins. I dont see him causing problems, he also just got married. Hopefully he really is looking just to win and become one of the best WRs of all time. I don't see him as a diva, just a rock star. He has the potential to become a star on the level on Marino, if he doesnt screw up. I dont think he will.

And he will open up the Dolphins offense completely. One of the best rushing teams should get better, #1 before Brown's injury, with defenses unable to stack the box and beat up on them. And obviously the entire WR corps will improve around him. And now they can focus almost entirely on defense in the draft.

NFLN was saying Parcells who is not really a big fan of signing WRs wanted Marshall for many reasons...one being a division shutdown corner like Revis who will have his work cut out.

Marshall talks a good game. You can see that on any Broncos message board.

LOL at the hypocrisy of your post. If you're gonna lump Vince with the DTs, then you might as well lump Seymour with DTs because that's what he would play in a 4-3.

Regardless, NT in a 3-4 is completely different than a 4-3 DT. Different technique and skillset and considered different positions by NFL personnel. I'm not implying that players who play one position can't play the other, but teams scale their salaries based on positions. The fact that now Shanahan wants to impliment a 3-4 in DC and wants to move Haynesworth over to NT doesn't change the fact that the Redskins signed Haynesworth to that enormous contract as a 4-3 DT.

a DT in a 4-3 plays a larger percentage of snaps than a DT(NT) in a 3-4, ESPECIALLY our system. NT is a different role than a DT entirely, and Wilfork was payed the most of any NT. Although on paper their position is the same, the differences are pretty large.

You have a right to be excited DolphinsX72 but I'd probably warn caution when blaming the Broncos for Marshall's behaviour. There's plenty of things people do which they don't like and don't act out like Marshall.

I forgot the P.S.

I'm reasonably certain that the women Marshall assaulted weren't members of the Broncos.

Nobody said he was perfect. Randy Moss had his own problems some which are similar as well when he was younger, and he seems to be fine now. Tons of athletes have. I'll choose to believe that Brandon has learned from his mistakes[which every person in the world makes] and will be fine, unless he does something in Miami. All I know is I'd rather have Marshall starting then Ginn. Now it makes our passing game a big threat to go along with the running game...sure to cause a big headache for whoever we play. Finally.

Who knows what went down in Denver. There's a reason the well respected Mike Nolan resigned. They aren't the brightest franchise out there.

One thing is for sure, the east division games this year may be even more exciting then last years.

Did you ever consider that perhaps Denver is actually weeding out undesirables and moving them on? It certainly appears that way on face value. Either way it's an equitable deal for both Denver and Miami for reasons many have stated.

You said that Marshall's problems in Denver were with the Broncos. I was noting his problems with women. Either you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to Marshall, or you were apologizing for a player by using a defense that made no sense when looking at a listing of Marshall's transgressions.

Choose to believe what you want. The dumbass got himself suspended for the final game of the season, a game with potential playoff implications. Good luck with that whole "learned from his mistakes" thing when this guy's in South Beach.

The reason Nolan is no longer in Denver is because he wanted to use a different style of 3-4 than McDaniels wants, and his defense collapsed after the team got off to a 6-0 start. Miami will be the 6th different team that he's been a defensive coordinator for. It's not as if the man's the second coming of Jim Johnson and staying 10 years as D.C. with one team.

I mentioned both. He had issues with the team and off the field issues. I said he owned up to his mistakes and was sorry for them in his interviews. What more can we ask for? Past is the past and I dont agree with his past, so hopefully he has changed. Moss has had just as many problems, and they aren't the only two athletes/celebrities that have had issues. He wanted a fresh start, he got it, we'll find out if he's telling the truth.

The Dolphins also have a way out if something did happen. For those interested in the real contract terms: The truth on the Brandon Marshall deal | ProFootballTalk.com

When you see the terms of the contract, it's a win-win. He either lives up to the hype and helps turn the dolphins into an offensive powerhouse, or screws up and the Dolphins wont have to pay a lot of that cash and could get out. Bottom line...at least they are trying. It's worth the gamble. It'll pay off when he's burning people and pulling down the football in double coverage in the endzone.

I'll believe this guy, the Broncos former GM who drafted him, over anyone else: "The Brandon Marshall I knew in Denver is a good person, good teammate, has a good heart. He needs a strong, experienced, mentoring-type coach and front office. Miami has that. He needs to be talked to, not talked at. He's as hard to tackle in the open field as anybody in the NFL.'' If anyone can get the most out of him, it's Parcells/Sparano.

More Broncos fans would've rather had McDaniels fired then Marshall traded. There's even a popular petition/website to get him fired. Fire Josh McDaniels Now

1.) "His problems in Denver were with the Broncos."

2.) How is losing 2 second round picks if he craps out a 'win-win'?

3.) A sizeable chunk of Broncos fans have been butt hurt ever since the Cutler incident. You should check out some of their boards. At this point, those people would blame McDaniels for an asteroid strike.

5.) Marshall doesn't need to be talked to rather than talked at. He needs to learn not to beat women, and he needs to learn basic self-control.

Marshall's an excellent player, though. If he can control himself, the Dolphins will have made an excellent decision. If he can't, they can take comfort in the notion that they took a worthwhile risk.

This hurts in 2 different ways. First, now we have Brandon Marshall, one of the Top 5 WR's in the league, in our division and we have to see him twice a year. Second, now we have Denver, another 3-4 team that just moved ahead of us in the second round. Im holding off on hitting the panic button right now but if we don't do something amazing in the draft we might be in some serious serious trouble.

May I ask how that matters? Considering Miami runs a 3-4 as well and it was going to be them picking there prior to the trade anyway, what difference does it make?

Since Seymour signed an extension and not a new deal he wasn't ever the highest paid DE. He got $10M AAV in new money for the 3 additional years, but he had to finish out the remaining year on his 6 year rookie deal, so over 4 years he earned $32M and averaged $8M. NT is a position in the 3-4 occupied by a DT. Vince is not nearly the highest paid DT in the league. It's called spin. The team was prepared to keep Adam as the highest paid kicker in the league...only on a deal with no bonus or guaranteed money...ergo he would not be the highest paid kicker... And at the moment it seems Shanny has Hanesworth, the highest paid DT in the league, penciled in as the highest paid NT in the league in 2010...by a wide margin.

NT& DT are separate positions...So yes, Vince IS the highest paid NOSE TACKLE in the NFL. Not every DT can play NT. But all NTs can play DT. So NT isn't just "occupied by a DT", I would argue that it could be the other way around...

Vince Wilfork and Albert Haynesworth play separate positions. The fact that Haynesworth who was paid as a 4-3 DT wants out because he can't play nose should tell you something.

Again, 4-3 DTs and 3-4 NTs are COMPLETELY different positions.

Another flawed analogy like yours above, Ted Bundy moved from the west to FL. How'd he learn from his mistakes? :D

Yah, like many of us have made 'mistakes' like Brandon has made.

What was Marshall going to say? "I look forward to beating my wife in a new state and going to South Beach and picking fights at clubs that might get my teammates shot"? The guy was just given a monster contract and needs to rehab his reputation. Not exactly surprising what he would say in a press conference. If you believe everything people say in a press conference, then you still believe that John Edwards didn't cheat on his cancer stricken wife and have a child with his mistress.

Interesting subplot to the Marshall story: apparently the Jets were going to sign him to an offer sheet and give up their first round pick for Marshall. However they couldn't agree to contract terms with Marshall, which killed that deal. The Jets then made the deal for Holmes as a result of not being able to land Marshall.

Ex-Broncos receiver was nearly a New York Jet by the Denver Post

1) I know I said that, becuase I was just talking about his on-field issues there. I also said I know he's had off-field issues. What are we supposed to do though? Every sports team has someone whose done something completely stupid in the past on their team, including your favorites and mine. I can name lots of players who've been involved in their own incidents. Brandon Meriweather was involved in a shooting in college, and dont forget when he was kicking a downed player during a game. The Jets practically have half a team with a rap sheet. None of our teams are filled with rosters of perfect angels.

2)Because you need to take risks if you're going to win championships. IF he does screw up, I won't be mad that they made this trade. The Dolphins have played it safe for a while, it was time to do something huge.

3)I know, that was like the first straw. This was yet another. On that website poll, 73% [who voted] think it was a bad trade for the Broncos. Accurate of their entire fanbase? no. A snapshot though that most of them didn't like it.

4)You're right, he does. He may have already. He got married, I doubt a woman would marry someone if he beats her.[Technically he was found not guilty by the court, but I'll go ahead and just pretend he did something]. I hope he learned from his past, maybe it would show others with problems to do the same.

High risk, high reward. To be honest I was a little nervous of the contract at first, but when you read the actual terms of it, it's not bad. Parcells is pretty crafty.

Why do you need to defend Marshall/trash the Broncos and McDaniels? It is what it is. Marshall is a good player who has severe personality issues that affect his off the field and on the field relationships. His actions caused the Broncos to say his negatives outweighed his positives and they didn't want him on the team any longer.
The Dolphins feel the positives outweigh the negatives.
If his personality causes no future issues, you got a good deal. If he is banned from the league or quits on your team, you didn't.
There is no need to sugar coat that the guy is pretty much a scumbag, you just have to hope he keeps it under control.
Smart money says he does so for awhile, then implodes.
Personally, I don't think your team is nearly ready to contend, so by the time you may be, he probably won't be around.

Well then you'll need to stop cheering for some of your own players. Last I checked most sports teams had players with problems. I wouldn't compare a psychotic schizo serial killer with any of them though.

Randy Moss - Timeline of Randy Moss Antics Moss has a bigger rap sheet than Marshall. The Marijuana isn't a big deal to me, but intentionally bumping a woman with a car and knocking her to the ground is.

You are kidding right?
Your 'rap sheet' which is nothing of the sort, has no entries in 5 years and nothing other than innocuous stuff in 8 years.
Take a look at what Marshall has done, and tell me that it compares to a guy who was in a RACIALLY MOTIVATED FIGHT and smoked pot once, and EIGT YEARS AGO f-ed around with a meter maid.

I'm not defending his past actions, just the trade. Marshall is not my favorite player and he never will be. But I will defend the trade itself. I'm done defending the trade now though, there's nothing else to say about it. I think everyone can agree as long as Marshall is on the field and not causing problems off it, it was a good deal. If not, then you can his ass and go back to the drawing board. I also didn't come to argue with rivals, so I'm sorry for arguing about Marshall, but I like the trade. Doesnt mean I like the man or his past actions. But, he can be forgiven if he really does want to change. Only time will tell.

About contending, I basically feel that all 3 could possibly make the playoffs, and any of them can win the division. If the defense improves like it should there's no reason we can't contend. As for offense, there's not much to worry about, they actually scored more points in '09 over '08 when they won the division, and should score even more now with a weapon. It's the D that f***ed us, but I'm positive they will be better. Dansby swapped with Porter was the first big thing, and now the draft. Plus our CBs are no longer rookies. It's unheard of to start a rookie secondary, but it will pay off this season now that they have experience. I would not want to face whichever AFC East team(s) make it into the playoffs. Just hope the Jets aren't one of them. I'll be cheering for the Patriots to beat the Jets twice, I at least respect your Patriots. Which is why I came here to post, I would never go to a Jets forum.
