OT: McNabb to Skins

Although McNabb is no longer elite or even near the top of the second tier (he was 17th in passing yards and 13th in TDs last season), I think it is a good trade for the Redskins. I think the Eagles got value in a trade considering McNabb's age, injury history, and less than elite production although it now looks like they are rebuilding when it looked like they were a team that had a decent shot to fill in a few holes and be an NFC Champion contender or Super Bowl contender.

I just don't get all the turnover by Philly this offseason. Between the trades and free agent defections, they are going to be a very different team next year. It looks as if they lost the Peppers sweepstakes and decided that that was enough to make sweeping changes.

I haven't kept up with much of the offseason moves(other than the Yahoo front page staring me in the face), but Kevin Kolb is going to be very, very good. Unlike McNabb early in his career, Kolb will have some TOP NOTCH YOUNG receivers to work with(Jackson, Maclin, Avant, and Celek), and it seems like Reid runs the ball MORE if the other QBs are NOT McNabb. Look for bigger doses of McCoy and Weaver next year - unlike those last 2 games against Dallas when Reid lost his mind.

Also - every year in Philly under Reid, it's always doom-and-gloom going into their respective seasons, but they always rise above the occassion. I think Dallas will take a step back(they were lucky to be injury free last year, ain't gonna happen this year, and they're getting older, especially that OL), I don't see the Redskins getting any better as long as Snyder's overseeing them, and the Giants run has come to an end.

I personally think there was A LOT of heated exchanges between Reid and McNabb after rumors of Kolb as stater surfaced and a black cloud flying over the team.

I am betting Donovan told Andy to get him the hell out of Philly if he was going to be a backup and since there were really no SERIOUS challenges other than Washington,it made sense to dump him to the team that wanted him the most.

Shanahan would rather win NOW than later,Adding Bradford or Calusen would have made winning probably winning in the LATER catagory,Shanahan knows this team is a leader at the QB position away from contending for a championship and I think Donovan was literally driven out of town to the team with the most interest and with any offer that was considered reasonable in Lurie's eyes...which just happened to be a division rival.

I agree totally. While Oakland may have been more than willing to give up their 2010 2nd rounder it's quite apparent they were not as willing to include a 2011 3rd, or 4th as well.

Not trying to offend anyone here, but I'm starting to come to the conclusion that the NFL is FIXED - I mean this is a JOKE, Eagles trade McNabb to a DIVISIONAL RIVAL for a MERE couple of lousy decent picks? Don't the Redskins give up tons of #1's for over the hills? How the heck did the Eagles not demand much in return?

Again - not trying to imply that the NFL is fixed, but this itself is a JOKE.

McNabb will be 34 this season and has only had one season since 2004 where he was healthy enough to play an entire 16 game season. His numbers last year were average. He still has the potential of being a top QB for the next 3-4 years, but it also looks like he is on the decline (his best season was 2004 and only his 2008 season ever got close to that production and has only threw for 20 TDs or more two of the last five seasons due largely to injuries).

If McNabb can stay healthy, he can be an above average to a top second tier QB (he was never in Brady's or Manning's level and probably cannot get into Brees level ever again), but based on his history over the last 5-6 years, that might be expecting too much. There is a reason why the Eagles have been trying to replace him over these years. He can play like a top QB, but hasn't done it consistently.

I really think Crazy Al thinks Bruce Gradkowski is the second coming of 'The Snake'

Kolb has started two games in his career. To parphrase Bill Parcells, let's not put him in Canton just yet. We really don't know what type of QB he will be.

As for the Eagles rising to the occassion, they are going to have to do it without a lot of the players who were the ones who made the Eagles rise to the occassion like Brian Westbrook and McNabb. They could very well rise to the occassion, but they will have to do it very differently than in previous years. Besides, in three of the last 5 years, they have been 9-6-1, 8-8, and 6-10.

Who will be McNabb's backup?..Campbell or Collins? - there won't be more than 2 QBs on that roster unless they pick up a rookie

Personally I think Collins is a better player

Reid reminds me of Cowher - like Cowher, he's opened up another window nicely with more new young talent. Cowher, like Reid, before he built another contender, had to go through like 3-4 years of futility rebuilding.

Also - the loss of their MLB Stewart Bradley was HUGE - they started like 6 different MLBs all year. The tipping point was when they lost their starting center, Jamaal Jackson - I think they would have beat us(Dallas) in wk17, and would have clinched seed #2 with him in there(i.e. Nick Cole was having trouble snapping the ball most of the game).

I'm just happy that he isn't going to Crazy Al's Fading Star Rest Home. He deff would have messed up that pick of ours next year. Don't look now, but I like the 'Skins shot this season with Shanny running the show. i'd expect he will get some serious production out of the backs (seemed like he always had excellent production in Denver), and that d-line is as good as any on paper. I think it'd be great for McNabb to win the big one there, and then give Philly a big F-U from the podium. Even better if he blows chunks against the pats again though!

Campbell isn't going anywhere - he's an RFA, and I doubt anyone would pay even a 7th rounder for a mediocre QB.

Honestly, I don't think any team has depth at QB.

I wouldn't mind adding Todd Collins as a 3rd QB here if the Skins release him.

Does this mean the NFL will have to re-do the 2010 schedule again, to put Washington at Philadelphia on primetime during the ratings sweep?

By the way, a few Eagle and Redskin sites & forums for those that may be interested in fan reactions.

If the two teams don't have a prime time affair already, you can be 100% sure there will be a Flex game late in the season IF they are scheduled together in those weeks.

Didn't Washington release Collins like six weeks ago?

Just happy he didn't end up in Oakland, where he probably would have added a couple of wins. I'm hoping the raiders go into the season with their current stable of qbs(though Russell may also double as a nose tackle...)

Tim Tebow 1st round pick of the Raiders

If that happens the fans will run Crazy Al out of town!

You know he will never say it publicly, but I bet McNabb is happy as hell to get out of Philly.

Smart move by Shanahan.

McNabb should give him a few years to man the QB helm while Shanahan can go develop his QB for the future. Plus, like McNabb or not, he'll make the Redskins a contender in the NFC East. The guy is a good QB.

On a side note, it should be fun watching the Eagle fans this season. THey've begged for McNabb to be moved and now that he has, they'll see Franchise QBs are hard to come by.

McNabb really seemed to have a great bond between him and a rising star in this league ... DeSean Jackson

Kolb will be hard pressed to duplicate the sync that Donovan and Jackson developed from DeSean's rookie year and onward.

I can guarantee you that Mr.Jackson is not a very happy man right now.

Could he be as disgruntled as Marshall was when Cutler was traded?,not likely because Marshall is a crybaby, but it will slow Jackson's progression to be an Elite player a bit ,I believe.
