Congrats!!!!! He was the real deal in the day when a big back was the real key to a running game....A great choice!!! Sad that this honor is many years after his death....

Jim Nance was the first major battle the Patriots won against the NFL

in their competition for players. Jim was a 19th round choice for the

Patriots and a 4th round choice for the Bears. The Bears did not

aggressively pursue Nance because they though he had committed

himself to the Patriots.

Jim Nance is dead to me.


Nance is one of my favorite old time Patriots. Used to watch him in mid-summer working out wearing a rubber suit to sweat off weight at Phillips Andover Academy. When he made the cover of SI, I felt that the franchise, much maligned in the 60s, had arrived.

Sadly like many African American males he suffered from high blood pressure and was prone to cardiac diseases, which I believe did him in at way too young an age. He is missed.

Jim Nance (and to a lesser extent Babe Parilli) were they players that drew me to the Pats when I first started to follow football - and decided to follow the local team rather than accept the force-feeding on CBS that a mediocre team from New York should be my favorite team. Don't accept the myth that the AFL was vastly inferior than the NFL back then; Nance was a very, very good player. I'm really glad to see him in the Pats Hall of Fame, and think he is a more worthy choice than some of his contemporaries that got in before he did.

I have the exact same feelings about those players and the whole NY 'force-feeding' thing at the time. We had the Giants stuffed down our throats. We'd also get some Browns games and it was a pleasure to watch Jim Brown run.

Jim Nance was the best of that era, not that there weren't others, Eisenhauer, Hunt, etc. that weren't good players.

I think the other two will eventually get in. All were deserving, but Bo Nance was the clear choice.

Generation Gap: before Jim Nance passed away, I always pictured Nance in my mind every time I heard CBS say 'we'll be joined by Jim Nantz'!
