Here is a list of upcoming 2010 WR free agents...

2010 NFL Free Agents: WR

There are a lot of intriguing candidates this year. Just curious what the Patriots fan base would like to see as the third receiver if one of these players could come our way...

Miles Austin.

But seriously, I'd like to see them trade a pick for Lee Evans. Probably be a good value pick-up and the guy's a real WR who's been taped to some of the worst QB's in the NFL.

Vincent Jackson would be extremely nice to have, but he's probably gonna be too expensive.

Miles Austin would also be nice, and i could see him being used in a variety of ways by the Pats, kind of like Wes, but not the same style as Wes

Would take Brandon Marshall in a heart beat !

Brandon Marshall, Miles Austin, and Vincent Jackson are the 3 that stand out. Would love to have any of those guys - the order doesn't really matter. And there's essentially 0% chance that any of them will hit the market.

I think they need to update this list.

Chris Henry, Cincinnati Bengals (27)

But anyway, I like Miles Austin, My bro is a Cowboys fan so I've seen a lot of him and I like what I see, but really I don't think we need another reciever unless Randy's not gonna be back. I know we've got this whole 3rd reciever debate goin on but I think we don't use Ben Watson enough as it is, and with Faulk, Morris, and Lawfirm coming out of the backfield or motioning to the line there's another option right there.

Marshall
Jackson
Austin
Owens

in that order

I think Owens has stayed out of the headlines this year pretty well and I think he may have finally matured to the point he just wants to win and may come inexpensive

The others are all young and awesome

Keep in mind that that list assumes there will be a new CBA, and only 4 years re needed to become unrestricted. If no CBA (which seems likely) then 5th and 6th year players will be RFAs and in most cases will cost a draft pick (or two).

Jason Avant, Philadelphia Eagles (27)
Lance Moore, New Orleans Saints (27)
Mark Clayton, Baltimore Ravens (28)

Those are my realistic choices.

Although i think they draft one or mr. Tate steps in

I think Austin, Steve Breaston or Jason Avant would be good fits. Very good wr with super change of direction skills. But not so high profile they'd cost too much or have problems being overshadowed by Moss and Welker.

If you are looking for a 3rd WR opposite Moss at a decent price

Terrell Owens
Malcom Floyd
Kevin Walter
Mark Clayton
Lance Moore

This ones easy, Brandon Marshall..... BM is a wideout who not only demands the over the top help, but is able to be physical and get the catchs in the short routes. He is the only reciever on that last that can play the deep and possesion game. He would be a beast teamed with Wes. Not to mention he knows the system.

Too bad Breaston is a RFA, he would be a good third WR and he also is a decent returner.

I can't see Dallas letting Austin go.

Derrick Mason may be 36, but he is reliable and would be a good 3rd receiver for a year.

Instead of egocentric malcontents, I might go for consistent production and a guy who could really be a good route runner, and hopefully affordable Josh Reed.

Assume Miles Austin and Vincent Jackson will be resigned and off the board. Next best choices would be:

Malcolm Floyd - would be my top choice. great size opposite Moss
Brandon Marshall - high maintenance and off field issues but would be a beast in this offense
Lance Moore - underrated
D. Hixon

A lot of those top WR's will not want to be relegated to 3rd WR duty. But I could see a guy like Lance Moore signing on to try to resurrect his career after being a non-entity this season with the Saints. Davone Bess is another good fit but I don't know how much being a RFA will affect his availability.

If I remember correctly Mark Clayton was on the Pats board in the 2005 draft.

Substitute Taylor for Law-firm and I agree with all your comments.

I don't see us spending much for a #3 wide receiver, other than re-signing Watson.

However, I do see us bringing in a couple of mid-level receivers to compete for a roster spot with Edelman and Stanback. I suspect that Tate will start on the PUP list yet again. In 2009 we brought in Lewis and Galloway. We'll see what 2010 brings, but it will bring something.

I think they need to update this list.

Hmm... Welker killed us, BB signed him... Bess anyone?
