Default Lakers just ripped off the Grizzlies...

Pau Gasol for the pu-pu (or should I say, poo-poo) platter of Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenden, and two first round picks this year and 2010. What an absolute fleecing, the league shouldn't let that go through. With Kobe, Odom, Gasol and a healthy Bynum, the Lakers are serious contenders again.

i just saw that and said WOW, what a ripoff. Kobe is a ball hog so it will not matter come playoff time. Kobe only wants to be better than Jordan and he is not a great team player

On the surface it looks like a steal for the Lakers. Gasol is an undeniable talent who teams like the Lakers would seem to have a tough time aquiring. The Lakers really don't have anything that good that teams would want, save for Bynum, who for me, would be untouchable. At any rate, the negatives I see here are Gasol's contract which has another 3 years after this for $50 million. Lots of cash there, especially since they'll need to resign Bynum soon, and Kobe can opt out next year, aside from the assorted bad deals currently on the books. Also, Gasol is an awful defender. He blocks shots, but he's a deficient rebounder for his size, and a terrible 1 on 1 defender. Never the less, to aquire a player of his caliber for a retired guy, a pick who has Farmar in the way, a guy who can't play in Brown, and a couple of picks in the 20's (while more than likely getting a pick in the 30's in return), is a great move. We'll have to see how it translates on the court.

Oh, I forgot about Gasol for Gasol. Marc seems to be a decent prospect. Who knows though.

While I agree with your assessment of Gasol as a player (which is why I did not want the Celtics to pursue him last year), I'm not sure that his contract will handicap the Lakers too much. Odom, as much as I like his game, is now largely expendable, and can be used to get relief from the luxury tax if they need it with a future trade. This deal looks like a steal all around. Brown is junk, the picks are likely to be late, and it turns the Lakers into an instant contender when Bynum returns.

The Grizzlies basically traded Gasol for garbage and a bunch of late 1st round draft picks. Wow do they look stupid now for not taking the C's package way back. I'm glad the C's got Garnett though as he is a much better all around player. No complaints there, just saying the Grizz look really DUMB now.

Kwame Brown is the biggest bust in the land, and he's the centerpiece of the deal? LMAO.

They still have to defend, and unfortunately, go through the Western Conference playoffs. I like the deal from the Lakers perspective, don't get me wrong, they gave up nothing for an allstar 7'0 and luxury tax, which I'm sure Buss can afford.

omg Cassel just killed Rondo in the LAC game tonight, smashed his face, flagrant foul, ejected. lool Then he pushed Posey.

I think its safe to say that Cassel aint being traded or coming to the C's.
