They're both similar players. I'd play the hot hand, they're both getting paid nothing, what do I care... they're draft picks. I don't give a rat'sazz about either of them, I'm not related to either of them... play the better player.

Two career starts (high score in bold):

Mac Jones - 51/69 73.9% completions 467 yards 1 TD 0 INT's, 96.7 Rating 4 sacks, 6.8 YPA 2 Fmbls

Bailey Zappe - 41/55 74.6% completions 497 yards 3 TD 1 INT's, 112.5 Rating 2 sacks, 9.0 YPA 2 Fmbls

Mac had the genius coordinator/QB whisperer. Zappe was thrown to the wolves.

The stats above that really stand out, TD's, Rating and Yards per attempt.

Zappe has been more vertical and accurate, plus he has only gotten better week after week. He could also improve dramatically from this point, consider that Zappe's one interception is actually Agholor's.

Mac was bad in 2022, it doesn't make him a bad player, it means one player is playing winning mistake free football right now and one isn't. Mac may get his job back, if he gets it handed it back... but the second he starts playing reckless, it won't last a half.

Personally I'd rather play the upside player now, don't make a change in the middle of a streak, but either or both could become good to great players. It is entirely possible for two good QB's to exist on one roster at the same time. The good news is the Pats don't have to do anything, they can hold onto both.

Play Zappe now, he's been better and better faster as a rookie. The kid's a QB robot.

I cringe to think what might have happened had Garoppolo not gotten hurt in 2016, especially given all the talk to potentially trade Brady when Cassel was playing well in 2008.

I don't know...it's just weird. I don't get why we can't have an appreciation for two guys on the roster without tearing down the other. I mean, how many teams can lose a starter and take their time getting him back because they have a suitable guy who can win games playing behind them? Aside from what's going on in Dallas, it's pretty rare. I've had fun watching Zappe play these last couple of weeks, and I'll enjoy it again if he starts Monday night. It's just too bad some of these other discussions are going on that take away from that.

I actually think Mahomes is more talented than Brady was at his age. Longevity is hugely important for QB's because of the cumulative value of experience at that position. It's doubtful that Mahomes career will be long enough to challenge Brady. But given Mahomes's vastly better arm and leg talent and impressive processing skills, if he can play 15+ years and continues to improve I do think he can challenge Brady as the GOAT.

Physically? Without a doubt. Mentally? Come on. The GOAT has separated himself from every other player ever by his dedication and singular focus on winning that has enabled him to overcome his limited physical abilities and make himself the greatest. That's the most important skill and Brady has far more of that than Mahomes.

Having the same quality organization and GOAT Coach throughout his career until the end also makes it unlikely that Mahomes can replicate or exceed his career since KC never demonstrated any such sort of acumen or organizational excellence until he suddenly showed up.

You can’t be serious with this #$@&. I am about as solidly team bill as you can get but there is absolutely zero way you can say anyone else is even in the GOAT discussion with Brady. He’s got it all, stats, awards, wins, titles, any intellectual honest person can see he has almost lapped the competition. Split Brady’s career in half and he would have a decent argument for GOAT in both of them, not the slam dunk no brainer his entire career is, but it wouldn’t be a crazy discussion. Here is where I think the disconnect is. Remember that how the f did he do that flying horizontally thru the air 30 yard rope Mahomes threw in the Super Bowl? Can Brady make that throw? Nope, no way, not if he had 1,000 tries at it. You know why Brady is more talented then Mahomes? Cuz the play before that he would have read the defense, changed the protection, and hit a 5 yard out so it’s 3rd&5 instead of 3rd&10 thus he has no need to make insane what did I just see throws like that. Brady is the most talented QB of all time. Full stop. There is no reasonable discussion for anyone else.

All you are talking about are his accomplishments. I've said many times before he's the most ACCOMPLISHED quarterback in NFL history, but he's not the most TALENTED. Does Brady have the strongest arm? Nope. The quickest release? Nope (not even close to Marino's). Ability to scramble in the pocket? Nope (otherwise we would have won super bowl 42). Most accurate? Nope (Brees and others having a higher completion %). Ability to lead his team on a long game tying or game winning drive with less than a 1 minute to go in the game? Nope.

Mahomes can make all the throws Brady can. Brady cannot make all the throws Mahomes can. If Mahomes were NE's QB over the past twenty years the team would have won 8 super bowls (since the Giants would have respected Mahomes' ability to scramble). Did I mention Mahomes has a career 4:1 TD/INT ratio with a QB rating of 105, while Brady is only 3:1 and a QB rating of 97?

When ESPN Sports Science guys studied Brady's arm several years ago, they determined that no one in the entire league throws with greater velocity. And that's because Brady's quick release, mechanics and reset allow him to throw the ball hard during game play. So sure these off-balance throws by QBs like Mahomes are impressive, but in terms of effectively getting the ball to a WR with speed? They don't have anything over Brady.

Never forget the rope Brady threw at the end of the 2007 Super Bowl. Not many QBs can throw a ball 80 yards with velocity. Brady can. That was Brady's 7th year as a starting QB. This is Mahomes 5th year.

However, he did complete 70% of his passes for 6000 yards and 62 TDs at Western Kentucky last year. Maybe those numbers are actually as impressive as they look.

There's one thing Brady can't do, which is run the ball, so it's a good thing he's not an RB. He's exceptional at EVERYTHING else. He's even had exceptional pocket mobility throughout his career so his questionable lower body athleticism hasn't hurt him. Arm strength, release, accuracy, etc. he's risen to above average in all of those categories. He's the best at diagnosing and reading defenses, working through his progressions and optimizing the outcome of a play. He's got all the intangibles... intelligence, toughness, leadership, clutchness, etc. He's unquestionably the most talented and accomplished quarterback in the history of the NFL.

He's very good in a lot of categories but he is not the most talented. If the super bowl is tomorrow, I'm taking Mahomes over Brady (and perhaps Montana who seems to elevate his game over Brady's in the Super Bowl). You can have Brady.

Your hero Mahomes has his two worst postseason losses to Brady. Sure Mahomes can make some spectacularly athletic plays that Brady can't but so what... Brady also doesn't look like Brett Favre in key situations like Mahomes has. Did you watch Mahomes completely melt down in the AFCCG last season? How about KC's losses this season?... Mahomes had game-ending picks in both. Let's not blow off his Super Bowl stats either... 2 TDs, 4 INTs and a 64.2 passer rating. And not for nothing, his best season by far was his first as a starter... 5 seasons ago.

Did you see Brady's stats in the 2018 AFCCG? 1 TD, 2 INTs. Mahomes threw for 3 TDs, 0 INTs and would have won that game if it weren't for Dee Ford. So don't tell me Brady outplayed him in that game. As far as SB 55 is concerned, everyone knew that Mahomes didn't have his 3 starting offensive linemen that day. And we saw what happened when Mahomes plays Brady with a healthy offensive line - he destroys him.

Brady has 7 Super Bowl championships, 5 Super Bowl MVPs, and he's 2-0 against Mahomes in the postseason. Mahomes is undeniably great, and likely will win multiple Super Bowls, but he's got an incredibly long way to go to catch Brady on the all-time list and it's highly doubtful that he'll ever get that close.

Yes, thanks to Bill. We can now see that Brady isn't very good without top-end talent when Bill isn't coaching him.

The big picture problem is that the team has two young, inexperienced QBs that have not been fully tested and/or given the opportunity to work through the learning curve. Best case both prove that they are capable of leading the team, worst case both flame out during the development process. Until the competition works itself out we are left hoping that BB and the coaches make the right call on who plays.

Probably going to be Brady's last season and he'll go out still playing at an elite level. It's amazing how his detractors continue to doubt him and try to diminish his accomplishments as now a mid-40-year-old quarterback.
