BB played Isiah Zuber over Jakobi Meyers in games #4 and #5 last year.

Then Harry got hurt and he was forced to play Meyers. I guess BB found it hard to bench a guy who had 169 yards receiving. Though if he had problems with his alarm... *cough* Jonas Gray *cough*

Then in the offseason he went out and got 2 WRs and the top 2 TEs. I mean if we are going to run a 2TE offense and we have 2 new WR where does Meyers fit?

So like I said Jakobi Meyers seems to be the bizarro Jake Bequette.

So the OC can't evaluate talent. That doesn't mean they don't value Meyers. Meyers was da man from Oct24 onward. Them signing 2 TEs was more an indictment on the worst TE group in the league last year. Agholor waa signed for only 2 years. And Bourne has produced less than Meyers had. I don't disagree with you though, I think the OC went overboard after he didn't get a HC job, they splurged in FA. We should closely watch whether Meyers deservedly starts over Bourne or not...

Was going to post the very same thing...No burst, no urgency...At least he caught the pass...

I wonder if it's related to this? He might be nursing something and not wanting to go full blast right now. I saw a video of him a couple days ago that looked pretty good, so maybe he's just taking it easy. I agree that he needs to step up in a BIG way if he wants to make this team, however.

The other WR not to completely sleep on is Kristian Wilkerson. He may be the most athletically gifted of the whole group (caught a nice TD from Jones today and was 4/4 in completions) and I note he's been active in the kicking game too - also downed a punt within the 5-yard line today. Sometimes Special Teams is the backdoor way to make the roster, just like with Gunner.

He certainly has the athletic profile for an NFL Outside WR, which is where we need the most help.

Because Gunner appears more likely than not to be making the 53, then we'll need whoever our #5 becomes to contribute in the outside passing game; otherwise defenses will funnel coverage between the hashes & < 15 yards and make life even more uncomfortable for our RBs, TEs & Slots.

Harry will or will not be cut because he is a former first rounder is somewhat ludicrous, if Harry does not perform as expected during TC or Pre Season BB will cut his losses and either trade him or let him go..

This is Harry's 3rd season and if he does not get it by now, he never will..
No, no, no

It is NOT relevant whether Harry performs as expected.

He is not a 1st rounder. The question is whether he is better than Zuber and the rest that are competing with him for the last WR roster so spot.

Have absolutely no idea what you are talking about here, Harry is a first rounder #32.. who has not performed as expected, if he does not "get it" during TC BB will not hesitate to either trade him or let him go..

I agree, post was confusing.

However, this will be his last year. Chad Jackson, who wasn’t drafted many spots after Harry, saw the door by year 3.

Aaron Dopson was gone after year 3.

Harry still has about $2 million of guaranteed salary left over the last two seasons of his rookie deal (1.5 m this season), so there’s 2 million reasons why it would be real good if they could trade Harry rather than cut him if he doesn’t make the team.

I like Wilkerson and I really like Zuber. It looks like we have real 3 way competition for the last WR spot between those two and Harry. I’d be disappointed but not surprised if Harry gets the spot, and they try to sign Wilkerson and/or Zuber back to the PS if they clear waivers knowing injuries will eventually open a spot on the 53 for one of them.

I'll try again.

You say that Harry needs to show that he is as good as expected, then he should be cut.

I said that what is expected from a 1st rounder is absolutely NOT relevant. If that we the case, then he should be cut right now. There is literally no way that he will all of a sudden perform as expected by a first rounder.

I HAVE A VERY DIFFERENT SET OF STANDARDS
1) Is Harry a better choice than the other he competing with for a roster spot?
2) Is Harry worth the new money that we would need to pay him (compared to being cut)?

If Harry is better than the guys we have, then (for me) he is well worth keeping as our #4 WR (plus our STers).

I 100% stipulate that he will no meet the expectations of being drafted when he was drafted. That is totally irrelevant unless we simply want to cut him out of payback for that disappointment

The possibility of Harry as finally producing like a 1st or 2nd rounder MIGHT have been relevant when Belichick chose whether to spend $10M or $20M or $30M or $40M on receivers. Belichick decided that he needed to spend $40M AAV on 2 top TE's and 2 top WR's (better than Harry to play with Meyers). We have 2 Ster who are all but locks.

Is there a roster spot for another WR? Is Harry the best choice. Those are the appropriate questions, not previous exceptions with regard to Harry.

Harry's 2021 salary of $1.5M indeed guaranteed. Nothing is guaranteed for 2022.

We save nothing by cutting him over Zuber. It actually costs us more cap money. If we trade him for a 2022 7th, almost assuredly doable, then we save a half million or so by keeping Zuber instead.

I hope to see Harry make the 53 as a relatively inexpensive roster player for 2021 and 2022.

Wilkerson highlight video does not show any separation from defender, just a lot of jump balls and hustle for the ball. Playing speed does not seem match measured speed. Zuber and Nixon appear to be better players.

Deja vu from 15 years ago getting a 1st round WR bust, a 1st round mediocre RB, a pair of TEs who probably won't pan out. With the same OC. Reloaded in 2007 of course but that worked because we had a GOAT QB. This time only a rookie QB and a damaged QB vet.

Agree with your second half of the post. To add, the absolute nail in the coffin for Harry (and zero to do with Meyers' eval) was going to get 2 new TEs and 2 new WRs in free agency. That says everything about how the Pats evaluated Harry after the season. He has no role here, should trade away for a crap pick at this point.

I agree that Harry isn't one of our top 3 WR's. We had one, and we therefore needed to draft two.

You are basically saying that we don't need a #4 WR, and we should cut Harry. I don't follow that logic.

Agholor replaces Byrd. Bourne replaces Edelman. Neither Bourne or Agholor are the same skill set as Harry. And TEs replace WRs? Harry might not make the team but your logic is curious.
