True, but sitting behind Snuze & Harry was more a reflection of the experienced vet/1st-round pick ahead of a 2nd-year UDFA pecking order at the time...Don't think Meyers has to worry about that now...Besides, everybody else in the room other than he & Agholor & Bourne haven't done jack feckin squat in the league; so he shouldn't worry about being replaced here...
Thats why it would be a surprise cut.

1. Meyers is the team's best WR. People keep discounting him as a #3 because of pedigree. On actual on field production this guy arguably is more productive than Agholor or Bourne. Meyers, Henry, Jonnu should get a ton of snaps this year.

2. Lazar's comment about Gunner, Lazar forgets Edelman didn't really start producing till year 3 or year4. I wouldn't count on Gunner doing much production wise (20 catches or so) while I do expect him to surpass Harry and continue to show a lot of upside.

.

Bourne and Agholor are pretty much locks. Jakobi Meyers would have to have a pretty terrible camp/preseason to not make the team and I think Gunner is in due to his return ability which will allow him time to develop as a receiver. The 5th spot is a toss up to me. Harry should have the inside track but at this point I don’t think anyone would be shocked if he is cut. I think Zuber and Harry may potentially be battling for that final receiver spot barring injuries or any new additions.

That last is not entirely true. JE produced when called upon, he just had fewer opportunities because of a) being behind Welker and b) injuries. You forget that his rookie year, he started off with 8 catches for 98 yeards in his first NFL game. Then when Welker went down at the end of the season, he stepped in and 10 catches for 103 yards in the season finale, and then had 6 catches against the Ravens in his first playoff opportunity. All this while he was a rookie.

As an All-Pro punt returner, Olszewski is already a roster lock. But the more you can do, the more valuable you are to Bill Belichick. I’m reluctant to say that Olszewski is on the Troy Brown, Wes Welker, Julian Edelman trajectory where he’s going to develop into a great slot receiver and returner. But Gunner keeps making plays in live team drills. On Tuesday, Olszewski dusted cornerback D’Angelo Ross on a crossing route where an explosive route break caused Ross to fall to the turf. If the parallels between Olszewski’s career and Edelman’s continue, then this would be the year where he starts to make an impact as a receiver.
[To Lazar:] Ummm. . . . The third year of Edelman's career, he had just 4 receptions as he was buried on the depth chart under Welker, Branch, GRONK, TE2, and Woodhead.

Yes, I remember all of the "he shows promise but unfortunately he is made of glass" posts in Edelman's first few years, but in addition to continually getting better and better every year he somehow managed to make himself much more durable.

I'm not yet ready to hand a spot on the 53 to somebody who is merely a Punt Returner-Only...Not nearly enough bottom-of-the-roster versatility for my taste... Dude needs to also be a KO Returner Plus a contributing member of the Big 4 STs Plus have the ability to draw at least competitive single coverage on offense.
He plays on at least three of them (kickoff return, kickoff coverage, punt return).

You are a proud member of a 2 member club: Meyers' mother and you. No one else would contend that he is our best receiver, not even Meyers himself

Yup, Meyers is so good that Belichick needed to spend over $40M to draft players, 3 of which will likely have more rep, yards and receptions than Meyers this year.

I think the chance of a healthy Gunner NOT making the team : 0%.

If he continues to have practices like he did today, then yeah probably...The more you can do...

Possibly because they need more than one viable receiver.

Meyers has got to be one of the strangest players on this Patriots roster, if not ever.

Every time he has stepped on the field he has produced.

If you project his last 11 games to a full season he would be a 1000 yard receiver. Even if he is not a Julio Jones type #1 receiver, he looks like at least a strong #2 receiver similar to 2014 Lafell.

And yet BB seems to not want him on the field. As you pointed out he went out and got 4 players in free agency that stand to take reps away from him.

And for similar reasons Gunner isn't going to do much this year behind Henry, Smith, Meyers, Agholar, and Bourne (plus Harris and White).

So he made it onto the field enough to project as a 1000 yd receiver yet you say that BB doesn't want him on the field? and BB getting in 4 players who will take reps/targets away from Meyers?? So you think we didn't need another receiver or two we can just do it all with Meyers? And we don't need TE's because we have Meyers?

Harry will or will not be cut because he is a former first rounder is somewhat ludicrous, if Harry does not perform as expected during TC or Pre Season BB will cut his losses and either trade him or let him go..

This is Harry's 3rd season and if he does not get it by now, he never will..

The top 4 are locks: Agholor, Meyers, Bourne and Olszewski. I am hopeful that Nixon emerges from the fray as the #5. At this point, I do not expect a vet from another team to make the final 53, but would not be shocked if a vet is brought in to compete.

I don't expect more than 5 WR to make the team, unless one counts Slater. The talent on the roster does not justify running more than 3 WR in a set. If the team wants an extra pass catcher, given the make up of the roster, it is more likely to come from a 4th TE or a 5th RB.

I think Harry will be cut outright. I suspect the team has been waiting for an offer but has received nothing. Look to Dominique Easley as evidence that the team is unafraid to move on from a former #1 pick after two years, and, IMO, Easley was less of a bust than Harry.

BB played Isiah Zuber over Jakobi Meyers in games #4 and #5 last year.

Then Harry got hurt and he was forced to play Meyers. I guess BB found it hard to bench a guy who had 169 yards receiving. Though if he had problems with his alarm... *cough* Jonas Gray *cough*

Then in the offseason he went out and got 2 WRs and the top 2 TEs. I mean if we are going to run a 2TE offense and we have 2 new WR where does Meyers fit?

So like I said Jakobi Meyers seems to be the bizarro Jake Bequette.
