Actually, if you listen to his players, you'll find that you're, at the least, not being entirely correct here. BB works mostly with the linebackers and that's his area of focus, not the entire team.

That could be, and it matches what I see on the sidelines. But Belichick still coaches more on the sideline than any other HC I see.

Just as a follow up.... I'd fire Billick and Lewis, for different reasons. And, just coming across is Fox Sports reporting that Billick is out.

For the same reason that Lewis in Cincinnati and Billick in Baltimore have those issues (One could toss in Mangini in New York, as well). You must have personnel to coach. Crennel took a perennial loser and got them to 10 wins. Now it's up to the GM to get him the players that will allow him to repeat that type of season with a tougher schedule.

Romeo had to deal with some tough injury and attitude situations on offense out of the gate that were not of his making, too. Billick and Lewis are in a little different boat. Billick's ego and judgement has exacerbated what has been a recurring problem in Baltimore since 2002. No QB. And in the process his defense is aging and he may have lost them. Problem is, he has a weak owner who gave him a $20M extension this season and likely isn't wanting to look the fool paying off $15M more for nothing (although that may be what he gets either way). Lewis was handed an offense, albeit some of it with questionable character, and he's done nothing to build or coach up his defense which is what he was supposed to do. And his penchant for troubled talent and inability to discipline or control his charges on either side of the ball is a joke. But I guess his out is to blame it on cheap management not funding a better scouting department. LOL

The good thing for the Browns is that their biggest problems are immediately apparent to anyone. They desperately need an almost entirely new defensive line and someone to take over for McGinest at OLB. Making the playoffs next year is basically a necessity for everyone keeping their jobs, so they can't just wait on the 2009 draft. If they don't come away from the offseason with at least 3 new defensive starters than they're screwed.

The open question is how much Romeo added to the patriot defense. Perhaps Belichick was clling the shots on defense even more back then.

It makes me wonder how much Peas adds to the current D. I don't recall BB going to the bench to coach anywhere near as much when Rac was here. Lately it seems like it's almost every series, the D comes off the field and BB is over there coaching them. And while doing that it seems to make it obvious he has a lot of confidence in Josh to call plays.

Offense saved him this year

As a CLE resident, I can tell you:

1. Good offense ('specially the improved OL)
2. Easy schedule
3. Josh Cribbs

Were the main things for this team.
RAC is SLOW to make decisions. Remember the firing of Mo Carthon? How about the benching of Ted Washington?

He may be a good DC, but when it comes to major decisions (the QB's at the beginning of the season) he's just slow to decide...

Due to the winning record, he'll stay unless someone hires him away.
However, anything less than 10-6 next year, and he's gone.

The management is kinda slow on their feet too. It took them ages to roll out their Believeland shirts, and it took almost a whole season to get Cribbs jerseys, and my co-workers are complaining that they're sold out.

Steve, I sit behind the D bench a few times per season and have observed that BB has always gone to the defensive bench early in the game. Looks like he's imparting his analysis of what the O is trying to do and how to counter it. I recall a really big blowup he had with RAC, I think RAC's last year, late in the game when the D was out to lunch. RAC just took it stoicly, which was the smart thing to do. He may be going to the D bench more later in the game this year. It is interesting how he seemingly lets Josh just do his thing.
