Your fumble stat is irrelevant because you're including fumbled snaps and sacks, none of which matter to a RB.

As for the bolded, that's pure garbage. Tebow was an elite short yardage back in college and he's shown the ability in the NFL too. And you chastise others for building straw men. Tsk tsk.

No strawman at all, it's a fact, he doesn't protect the ball and has 15 fumbles in 197 attempts, which is as bad as it gets.

BTW-I am watching the TB game again right now, nice int, he only overthrew the target by fifteen yards, on the other hand he had a great 3 cone four years ago......................................

The fact that you want him turned into a FB demonstrates just how desperate his cult is to find a place for him, anyplace coach we don't even care, just as long as he gets to stay.....................

As you are interested in comparisons, check out Tebow's and LeGarette Blount's combines. Almost identical with Tebow getting the edge in COD speed.

Tebow destroyed Blount's 3 Cone. Tebow lapped the nearest RB at his combine in 3 Cone. (Jahvid Best was #1 RB, Blount was #3 RB).

Tebow's 60 yard shuttle was also significantly better than any RB at his combine -- he would have been #1 by some distance.

All of this while significantly outweighing the top RB's. It's the kind of freakish weird thing that makes cerebral guys like BB and Josh take notice. Granted, the guy's got to be able to throw the ball, but there shouldn't be some "huh, he's not particularly athletic" confusion about him.

The one thing this entire issue has convinced me of is that Josh McDaniels should never ever be named the head coach of the Patriots, his judgement truly sucks.

So anyway, to those who see nothing but mystery in why Tebow keeps sticking around like a bad habit -- think of him as Terrell Pryor of the Raiders. The Raiders aren't looking to Pryor. They brought in two quarterbacks this offseason that they hope to have as starter. But if they keep Pryor it's probably because he's physically talented and learning how to throw like an NFL QB.

The part that's sort of counter-intuitive is that Tebow is head-and-shoulders more athletic than Terrell Pryor. It's easy to overlook that if you don't stop and examine.

And the Raiders may cut Pryor this year. Just like the Patriots may cut Tebow. Them's the bounces. It's not the stuff of great mystery.

He had 14 fumbles in 2011.

And?

Fumbles happen on sacks too, so how many sacks were there in addition to his carries as a runner. How many fumbles per carry and sack were there in 2010 and 2012? He didn't fumble that much in college. An average of four year.

So counting fumbles that result from passing plays in an outlier year is playing fairly fast and furious with the truth.

Who has disappointed as a short yardage runner in the past, something that certainly can't be levelled at Tebow's door.
I'll play your game; that doesn't mean Blount will struggle as a short yardage runner with the New England Patriots offensive line.

I think any talk about JMcD potentially being our head coach is almost laughable. That's nothing more than pure fan/media driven crap.

Bob Kraft has all the money in the world and is used to having a winning and competitive team every year. I'm sure he'd be much more willing to pay 7-8+m a year to someone who is already a proven winner. When it comes to "names" in terms of the next HC candidate, I'd think that guys like Nick Saban would vault to the top of the list, not Josh McDaniels.

OK, I'll play your game, but what's the relevance? Do we know for certain Blount was brought in as a short yardage back? Tebow is better athletically than Blount. Blount is out of contract at the end of the year. Tebow and Blount can co-exist on the roster. There's absolutely no reason why this should be an either/or thing.

I hated Pryor as a Buckeye QB, but he's really showing some promise in the system at OAK. They were patient with him, and it seems to be paying off now.

He may be a weapon with multiple uses when all is said and done.

Those who are pointing to Tebow's fumbles should also keep in mind Blount's propensity to put the ball on the ground with the best of them.

He currently puts the ball on the ground every 43 touches...

And people here freak out about Ridley's 1/76 fumbling tendency.

Yeah, which cuts both ways with the Case of Timothy Tebow. On the one hand, it shows it can be done. On the other, it shows it "taking" with Pryor whereas Tebow is behind the curve in terms of years. In order to reconcile, the Pats have to believe they have a program that the previous guys frakked up. And time will tell whether they stick to that belief.

Since this is somehow about Blount now, how about we give him a shot at 3rd QB. I'll wager a bit that he can throw better passes than Tebow has so far.

Tim Tebow has never proven to be a 1000 yard rusher as a running back in the NFL.

Tebow has not lined up as either a halfback or fullback with the New England Patriots offense this preseason.

Tim Tebow is better athletically than Tom Brady. That doesn't make Tim Tebow a better NFL quarterback than Tom Brady, nor does it make Tim Tebow a better NFL running back than LeGarrette Blount.

You certainly are on a fishing expedition with this one.

Oh, I forgot, he's Tebow, he can do anything.

I haven't said he's better than Blount and I certainly haven't said he's a better QB than Brady (WTF!!!). I've said that I'd like to see him as a RB. That's all.

He's very physically gifted -- his quickness and cutting ability are amazing for a guy his size. It's deceptive because he's so big it fools the eye.

Only reason the following is relevant is that you seemed to think he wasn't much of an outlier in the physically gifted department, which is relevant to the question of why BB and Josh might think he's good "project material."

I 'm surprised you didn't look at more than 40 times while you were looking at combine numbers. Tebow's 40 time (while impressive for a 240 lb. quarterback) is not really his strength -- he doesn't really have a "second gear" in that last 20 yards. But 40 time is not the most important thing for a running quarterback, or even a running back. That's why they measure other things for short range quickness and cutting ability.

So before I publish some times, understand this -- Tebow's 3 cone drill is off the charts. His vertical is amazing. His 20 yard and 60 yard shuttle times are very respectable. He is quicker than all those players you listed by any measure, while being heavier and more durable. Did you not know that?

First, three cone drill -- Tebow had a 6.66. To put that in perspective, tiny Ray Rice had a 6.65. And for three years, Tebow was second only to Ray Rice among all RB's and QB's in Three cone drill.

3 Cone Drill

Tebow 6.66
Caparnick 6.85
Newton 6.92
Wilson 6.97
Griffin none
Geno none
Manual 7.08
Luck 6.80

Vertical Leap

Robert Griffin 39
Tebow 38.5 (3rd highest QB at last 4 combines)
Andrew Luck 36
Newton 35
Manual 34
Wilson 34
Kapernick 32.5

(Sort of jumps out -- he's clearly athletically talented.)

60 Yard shuttle

Tebow 11.27
(highest in 7 years of combine for QB)
5th highest in 7 years if you include RB's at combine, just ahead of Doug Martin of Tampa, and Giovannie Bernard of Bengals.

20 yard shuttle

Wilson 4.09
Tebow 4.17
Kaepernik 4.18
Newton 4.18
Luck 4.28

I do not remember a time that I said oh wow did you see that jump the QB just made……

The difference between all of those player (except Manuel and Smith are TBD) is that they all can throw the football, lets take a look at their stats so I can show you what exactly special equates to,

Code:
Seasons	GP	Comp %	Yds	Avg	TD	Int	Rate	ATT	Yds	Avg	TD
Tebow	3	35	47.90%	2422	6.70	17	9	75.30	197	989	5.00	12
Newton	2	32	58.90%	7920	7.90	40	29	85.30	253	1447	5.70	22
Griffin III	1	15	65.60%	3200	8.10	20	5	102.40	120	815	6.80	7
Wilson	1	16	64.10%	3118	7.90	26	10	100.00	94	489	5.20	4
Kaepernick	2	16	62.30%	1849	8.28	10	3	97.90	65	415	6.60	5

He is not special he has a good jump ability and lateral movement, neither of which matter much for a NFL QB. If you want to discuss Tebow as a RB, FB, or even a TE I am not opposed to it, we can talk about him signing a futures contract after 1/1/2014 and making the transition to one of those positions, I will not even say it is a bad idea, or that he is unlikely to be successful at it.
