Gonzo? J. Jones? Marcus Jones? Dugger? Peppers?.....
Right now my opinion on the WRs is there are several that are at similar skill levels right now. Initially I thought Osborn was looking good at camp I saw less in the games though. I also think I started paying a little more attention to the rookies and even to Ty and I kind of forgot to watch him at times.Has Osborn done anything this preseason? If not, I could see Boutte getting in over him.
I put them up against most any 5 in the league. I don't understand why this board can't see it too.Gonzo? J. Jones? Marcus Jones? Dugger? Peppers?.....
Absolutely positively! I'd even say we have the best secondary as a whole in the AFC eastI put them up against most any 5 in the league. I don't understand why this board can't see it too.
how many all pros or pro bowls among them? PFF has them ranked 21 in the league. While I disagree about 21 there’s no way anyone can make a legit claim we are close to being the best. That’s a complete homer take.Gonzo? J. Jones? Marcus Jones? Dugger? Peppers?.....
I agree. Tyquan not only needs a QB to throw the long ball, but he is moving quicker than others so even on a slant the ball has to come out quickly with some velocity on it to lead Tyquan in small windows. I think Drake can do that. I do not think Jacoby or Zappe will consistently do it.Tyquan with Drake's arm could be a exciting thing for this offense.
That's not a Homer take... you have to understand becuase we were so wretched last season it affected the entire team.. gonzo was ranked #3 heading into week 4. J. Jones has been one of best CBs in the league the past few seasons.. Peppers was and should have Been an all pro last season, dugger is a border line pro Bowler... don't know how you can't see that.. I affirm my statement this one of the NFLs best secondaries when healthy!how many all pros or pro bowls among them? PFF has them ranked 21 in the league. That's the thing 2 of the 5 are still unproven around the league but we've got a firsthand look and know how good they can be.how many all pros or pro bowls among them? Sure, I’m not saying they are bad. I think they have some quality players, but best secondary in the league? That's the thing 2 of the 5 are still unproven around the league but we've got a firsthand look and know how good they can be.
And a third has never received any love despite being a good starter and really good slot corner for years now.
Then our safeties get overlooked because they are both similar type players but just look at that clip of Peppers talking crap to Hurtz. Hurtz respects him that's for sure.
Correct on all points. I've just resigned to the fact that some posters would rather take the Felger and Mazz approach than actually appreciate the good players we do have. I'm going to recognize the good players we do have. Even Mayo's realized that. Peppers and Dugger were extended. That's the thing 2 of the 5 are still unproven around the league but we've got a firsthand look and know how good they can be.

I'm a little scared without Bill, Barmore, and Judon. After adding no-one new in FA and losing Barmore and Judon, the defense is not looking like it will excel. Too bad in my opinion. I think the Pats had a nice base group of defensive guys and I was hoping we would continue to slowly add to the D while we rebuild the O. We did nothing and are going backwards, which is very unfortunate. The only upside is the possible emergence of Y2 players like White and Gonzo.
If Gonzo is what we all think he is then it's on the table.Sure, I’m not saying they are bad. I think they have some quality players, but best secondary in the league?

I think Mayo and Covington can keep things together and I'm more worried about coaching on offense than D.
I also think our secondary and Keion can hold things together on D.
Lastly our LB group isn't our hayday LBs like Bru and company but Bentley and Tavai were a very good duo last year. If Uche and Jennings can pick up the slack for losing Judon we should still be a very good D.
No one is replacing Barmore but is there any chance he can play this year?
Like Real Fan just said too much Felger and Maz negativity and I'm going to focus on the positive things we do have going for us and I think most of the positive things on this team are on D.That is a very positive take. It could go that way, or there could be a few injuries and slump to being an average defense. I think Covington wants a very aggressive defense, which is a change. We will see how that works out.
Gonzo? J. Jones? Marcus Jones? Dugger? Peppers?.....
I have to respectfully disagree on our safeties. They both are ranked in the top 10. Peppers is in the top 5. That's elite. Curran even mentioned if not for the worst offense in the league last season Peppers would have had been an all pro selection. As a teams record unfortunately does come in to play. There is not over rating they are dam good players. They are COLLECTIVELY a top 5 unit in the NFL. I really don't think it's much of an argument. We tend to overrate our own players.
Gonzo is the #1 corner, and he's played 4 NFL games. JJ is a good corner, but better in the slot. What has Marcus Jones even done on defense? And while I really like Peppers, the safeties are certainly not elite.
The group has the potential to be a top group, and it is filled with NFL starters, so after looking at the offensive groupings for a few years, this secondary might seem elite, but it's not. Yet.
Even if the defense does take a dip.. I'd be happy with the offense showing up. The league rules couldn't make it more easier for an offense to move the ball and score. Last season we couldn't convert 3rd downs and get in the end zone. Your right loosing Barmore sucks! But these defense still has enough Dawgs on the unit to be respectful. As I've mentioned contrary to some posters.. the secondary is the strength of the team.. when healthy they are amongst the best units in the league. There will player or 2 that really steps up.. I think that will be X.. we signed from the giants. There will never be an replacement for Bill nor TB12..I'm a little scared without Bill, Barmore, and Judon.
