What to do with Isaiah Wynn

Does switching sides make using independent hands difficult? Is that an instinct that builds the longer you're in a position, therefore switching sides can throw things into a flux?
In all the time I've watched football (70 years), there have always been tackles that are better at LT or better at RT.

I think Cannon was supposed to come inside and never made it. I'm not referring to Preston Smith coming in
Yes, this board believed that Cannon would be an all-pro RG. The coaches disagreed.

Similarly, the board believes that Onwenu would be an all-pro RT and should be playing OG. The coaches disagree.

Just look at Justin Herron....he was pretty good on the left side, but put him at RT and he was a turnstile.

Agrred.

Cajuste won the backup LT job, so Herron's only chance to stay was to make it as a RT.

just for comparisons sake...

Wynns 5th year option ranks
17th in cash spent, 13th in cap hit in 2022 for left tackles...
7th in cash spent, 5th in cap hit for right tackles...

his option was a cheap pick up, all things considered

And it's not like we had much choice in the matter anyway, because at the time of the pick-up (May '21) we were still under the ass-umption that Lose/Lose would be our LT for 2022, as he was in 2021, and except for Herron we had nobody in the pipeline there...

Captain, I didn't see your thoughts on our O-line going forward the rest of the year, are you thinking: Brown/Strange/Andrews/Onwenu/Cannon

Just curious your take, I know you definitely have opinions on the o-line

Gotta be concerned about Brown's & Cannon's ability to stay on the field throughout a 17-game season... They're also gonna be susceptible to speed rushers from the edge if they can't get both hands on them... Those two & Onwenu are straight-ahead blockers who shouldn't be asked to block dudes not directly in front of them too often... Strange69 & Andrews are the two for the pull-around game, but they'll be susceptible to power if you ask them to play either the unstoppable force on the ground or the immovable object in pass protection... Speaking of pass protection, our 3 heavies MUST try to block to the whistle as often as they can; who knows what our QB's gonna be doing back there...

IF and ONLY IF everybody stays healthy, this could work, with Lose/Lose on standby... And for Ganja's sake, STOP committing penalties!

Bill literally picking OLmen off the streets. What was Patricia doing eating pizza in ND? Hey, maybe this dude will be the Malcolm Butler of the OL, who knows.

Great post...so going forward, you would have Wynn on the bench?

The solution is simple: put Wynn back at LT where he's played since college and move Brown back to RT where he has experience. Patricia's experiment has not worked out. They both had good grades at their respective positions last season.

Yeah, for now... Cannon out-played him in GB; and maybe Bill, Matt & Yates have finally had enough of the penalties & hits on their QBs... Lose/Lose can spell Cannon every few series while the latter works on his in-game stamina... That's what I would do anyway...

The only way I see him playing LT for us again is if Big Brown gets injured... which unfortunately is still a fair possibility...

No comment until I learn more about this guy... At least he's tall... And can we now pretty please with sugar on top end this weird, ridiculous Billy the ****ing Comedian Murray experiment?

Hopefully TB77s weight classes will help preclude that particular issue ...

Can Cannon play LT if Wynn sucks over there, too? I think Wynn's problems aren't positioned based and have more to do with his attitude, which would probably still suck on the left instead of the right. But who knows.

His attitude is directly related to being switched to RT, imo.

Cannon played LT in college - and pretty dam well too - so he has experience there, although that was obviously quite a while ago... Don't know how many snaps he's taken at LT since he joined the Pats, or during his 4 games with Houston...

True, and they could switch Brown back to LT and Cannon to RT pretty quickly, if they wanted, too.
