Welker reportedly has 'mild disdain for Pats right now' per Yahoo, 3/05

Re: Welker mild disdain for Pats right now

Nunchucks isn't right. His posts on this matter are some of the most ridiculous posts we've seen all offseason. Even his second year in Miami, with that trio of stiffs throwing him the ball, Welker was way beyond 'JAG' status (as noted by BB), and he was clearly still developing as a WR, having gone from 0 receptions to 29 receptions to 67 receptions.

In 2006, the year he had 67 receptions, he did that despite playing with the stiffs, only starting 2 games, and playing on a team with those lousy QBs who's pass/rush ratio was just 52/48 (497/461).

What's funny is how those 'JAG' numbers, 67 receptions and 10.3 YPC match up against Amendola's numbers, when Amendola is heralded as the next guy:

Amendola's best season for receptions: 2010, with 85 (Just an 8.1 YPC)
Amendola's best season for YPC: 2012, with 10.6 on 63 catches
Amendola's best season for yards, also 2010, left him with just 2 more receiving yards than Welker's 2006 season.

Welker wasn't a JAG in Miami in 2006, a point made by BB. He wasn't a JAG when Brady was lost for the year in 2008. He wasn't even a JAG when he was coming off of ACL surgery in 2010.

Looks like you didn't read to the end of my post, where I said, "Now I disagree with Nunchucks that Welker would be just another guy with a different team. But he wouldn't be what he is with Brady if he played with a JAG quarterback."

Re: Welker mild disdain for Pats right now

Absolutely. Mods take under consideration please.

Actually we are not moving threads on general football topics in the off season. We are sending draft threads to the draft forums, where they belong and is quite an active forum.

Some may be moved to the Practice Squad but the reason should be obvious.

Although some threads are embraced and others have some disdain.

I wonder how many man hours are exhausted litigating the same tired debates over and over and over and over and over and over.

Whew! I guess it's a good thing that you're not part of the thread then...Oops. Never mind.

Hey, it's the dead time between the SB, FA and Draft Day. My motto at this time of the year is "Enter any thread at one's own risk."

I read it, but I think you were being too kind to his position, so I was reiterating my position on his level of wrongness. He wasn't just saying that Welker might be putting up lesser numbers with a different QB. That would be an arguable point that would be extremely difficult to prove, particularly given Welker's success in 2008, but not a crazy one. He was going down the road to "JAG", though, which is a different story.

Belichick was out to prove he could win games without Wes Welker. I
believe, with the exception of Tom Brady, he feels that way about all his players.

I'd take it a step further and say he feels that way with TB12 too.

why is NFL.com still running with this? Saying it's more and more likely now he will test the FA market when we have people in house saying a deal is close?

I said might be a jag, the word "might" is closer to "probably not" and much less of a critism than if I said "may"

He certainly would not be borderline hof

Right on the money, and Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith wouldn't be HOFer''s if they had not played with their teams. Did you see their 40's, they shouldn't even have been drafted. neither could even play Madden now, and not one fantasy GM would ever take them. In short they sucked, they were just lucky.

Different outlets trust their sources, so they are two conflicting reports from two different outlets. Everyone wants to break the story and beat the next guy to the punch.

Just last week we saw two conflicting reports from the same publication as to whether or not they felt that Brady actually will end up taking a pay cut in a few yrs.

It's quite possible that even Wes Welker doesn't really know what he's going to do at this point in time, although I'd be more inclined to believe the recent story that they seemed to be making progress on some level.

Wow, now you are comparing Wes Welker to a guy who ran for over 10k yards and the greatest WR of all time. Amazing.

Look, I like Wes, I think he is a great fit for this offense, but I hold no illusions about what he can do. He is a small guy who can get open in the middle of the field. That's great, but he is also part of an offense that gets destroyed in the playoffs, he is part of the reason the Patriots could not muster enough points to beat the Giants in 2 different superbowls, the Ravens in the AFC Championship game or the Jets.

So go ahead and sing Wes' praises, but he is limited in what he brings to the table.

Adam Schefter ?@AdamSchefter
Patriots free-agent WR Wes Welker has no plans to re-sign with New England before first testing the free-agent market next week.

Well, I was about 100% confident he would resign with us, that just dropped to about 50%. Even though just about everyone knows NE is the best place for him and his chances of producing similarly elsewhere are very small ...I still feel as if someone will blow him away with a stupid offer. Someone like the Bengals who could really use someone to tear teams apart underneath to compliment Green and have way too much money.

The patriots will never pay as much as one of the many teams out there in need of a safety blanket for their young QB.

If it does happen, I'm confident the offense will adapt.... Eventually. It's gonna be a tough few games.

Dude cmon, this whole system player thing is crap. Welker will still be a pro bowler on most teams unless they have the crap the cardinals threw out there that they called a quarterback. How do you explain Welker having a great season with Matt Cassel?

Strange ... I suddenly have developed a "mild disdain" for Wes Welker.

Randy Moss, NFC West, and the Patriots system. Same offense that broke records.

Randy has lost a lot physically since 2007, I do not think this is a valid comparison, yet. Let's see how WW's age and physical abilities hold up moving forward.

You think that outside of playing with BRady he'll put up 110 catches and 1200 yards consistently? No. You think he'll develop a rapport with another QB like he has with Brady overnight? Doubtful at best.

I'm not calling him a system player, but I am calling him a player that benefits tremendously from being in a certain system, just like any other player in the NFL, the difference is that our system is very unique and caters greatly to Welker's specific skill set.

Comparing him to the guy whose records he breaks, imagine that, and don't give me the " I like Welker" crap nunchuks after you were suggesting he's just a jag and try to put the blame on him for the SB losses, what a bunch of crap.

I will reserve judgement on who is to blame for this until i hear the offer from the Patriots but if it was under 40 million then they are ******s. The Patriots are going to pay dearly for letting him walk. Sh.tty day to be a Patriots fan.

Oh, so Welker breaks one of Jerry Rice's records, now you think Wes can hold Rice's jock? Are you frigign kidding me?

My "mild disdain" is for Belichick, sometimes he is too pennywise pound foolish and too stubborn. He screwed up when he didn't pay Samuel and this is going to end up being s similar mistake. You don't replace great players with 3-4 jags, period. They better hope they can sign Amendola and that he stays healthy, or that Austin is available, they take him, and he figures it out in a hurry because otherwise they have a huge hole to fill. As it stands the have the best QB in history and the worst WR corps in football, and that's idiotic.
