Just watched the replay after work. LOVE this team! Pats can hang with the best. A little rust on opening day but great effort and without all their starters. Comeback teams are dangerous. Pats look dangerous.
They need to show that they can get over the hump, not just make a run and threaten.

Eagles fans game thread. They really thought the game was lost.

Mac said what many are saying. He was given the chance to win the game and he didn't. He gets it. I am rooting for him. Will he be able to take it to the next level? Who

The problem with analytics is that the analytics are only as good as the assumptions that go into creating the model. The "analytics" may not factor in the quality of the defense for both teams, momentum, weather (wind direction relative to field goal attempts), injuries, quality of the offense etc.
I think these analytics are basically BS and should be taken with a grain of salt.
The morons who quote the analytics want the consumer to think they are the gospel truth and they are not.

One small painful bit is that Bourne was the best looking WR today and is also the only WR who is not signed beyond this season. Everyone else is signed for 2+ more seasons.
If Boutte toe taps those two receptions, the Patriots win that game. The first drive for a touchdown in the second quarter saw Mac Jones complete seven consecutive passes to seven different receivers. That drive was the response to the tip-interception-TD and the fumble by Zeke Elliott that dug the 16 point hole. That drive right there would not have been possible last year but is with Bill O'Brien and Mac Jones taking what the defense is giving them.

Also, I was very impressed with the offensive line and the RBs without the two starting guards. It looked far better than I imagined it would and Mac was pretty good about getting the ball out on time. That will get better.

This looked like a preseason tune up game at times. So much to build on.

That pick six was the difference.

Mac had receivers running open for majority of the game and he hit some on a good amount of them, but when the game was on the line he came up really short.

The defense gave him two chances, one of which was on their 40 yard line and he came up small. Took a bad sack and a mind blowing delay of game. Completely unaware of the situation. On the last chance, after getting a first down, Boutte beat his man and he threw it 10 yards out of bounce, then a bad ball to Bourne followed by another sack that he should have avoided at all cost, at least throw it away.

I think this team is good enough to beat bad and mediocre teams, but against good teams where QB play is going to be the difference I just don't think Mac is good enough.

Shame that we're going to waste another year of elite defense. If Brady was the QB, this team would be SB contenders.
Spot on truth.

Am I the only one who thought that the holding call on Mac’s 2 point conversion was a ******** call? On the replay (which I admittedly only watched once, in real-time), I didn’t think that Anderson pulled the edge rusher to the ground. Through my Patriots-colored glasses, he was able to recover after the rusher initially had the advantage and he pushed him to the ground.

Disappointed that Manute Bourne didnt catch this.

If Mac Jones ever develops into a QB who can win playoff games for you and contend for championships, I’ve become convinced he’s going to need exceptional line play in front of him to reach that level.

Thats why im beating the OL drum to death. Well, one of the reasons. I wouldn't call it exceptional, just solid, consistent, physical OL play would already come a long way. When Jensen went down in Tampa even Tom looked a different QB.

It’s not because he gets overly jittery when pressured. All QBs, even the one honored today, can look pedestrian when being the pressured. But, the real problem is his lack of functional height (shoulder height plus arm length) lowers his release point which all too often has him flipping the ball out of a well to get his passes over the extended arms of rushers rather than being able to drive the ball for maximum velocity or distance. That’s why some of his passes look crisp with more than adequate velocity while others just float towards their target. It all depends on whether he has a clean passing lane to step into the pass or not.

It’s just a shortcoming Jones and the Patriot coaches are going to have to develop work arounds for if he’s to fully reach his potential.

Hard to have a clear idea about his shortcomings bc he was never put in a decent situation. The OL is a cluster**** ever since he arrived and after he showed glimpses of overcoming his rookie year instead of helping him they threw a curve ball (MP & Judge show). I expected the “putting players in best situation to succeed“ mantra would go for your first ever first round QB pick especially. They had it for their 6rd pick and it worked out pretty well..

Im not married to Mac but its not like good starting QBs are just waiting to be picked even with tons of cap. Im sure they have their idea about him regardless but Id just like to see they put him in a proper situation thats all. They have all the means to do it.

I think this helps explain the emphasis on the Oline, especially interior linemen, in the Pats’ last two drafts.

The emphasis on OL is quite a stretch : )
Years of OL incompetence (after Dante) left them without any depth - so those were building the depth picks first. I liked the picks from the size/physicality standpoint alone & Im not saying there is no starting potential there but hardly a given. If they want to build dominant OL (which would be my way to go) they should make some proper investments. Strange was a decent pick and i believe he can be part of a dominant unit, extending Onwenu early would've been nice but looks like that ship has sailed and its not a given they keep him despite enormous cap space. They are in some luck that next years Draft has exceptional tackle class - Id even double dip - but im not holding my breath.

For those who don’t know, Eagles LT Mailata is 6'8", 365 lbs. From what we have seen so far, give me White every day and twice on Sundays over any of the OTs and TEs drafted after him on day 2.

This was better than expected.

Both Gs were out and we started down 17-0 in half a quarter, so to be almost one toe away from victory at end against one of the best 5 teams in the league, is encouraging.

That quarter aside, even, I think we displayed a lot of pretty good stuff, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Rythim and consistency to get points, in contrast to last year every when every single successful drive seemed like a fluke. And without starter Guards.

New year, same big problems though: This slow start BS is not acceptable anymore (It took 1 quarter this time. enough to cause an L) and Mac, although he has shown more in one game than in the whole last season, still lacks a bit of "sauce" on the majority throws. First game and wet conditions this time around, but sill.

Mac just stf up and enjoy the season. So many miserable ****s on this team.
You may be right, but maybe let’s see how JSS does playing against the Broncos and Vegas does playing against the Eagles?

Very impressive , love seeing him play even if it is highlights.

The pats gave up no deep plays to the most explosive offense in the NFL. Great debut from peppers who played alot of deep safety. He may be another player bill has salvaged.

I like Bourne but he's got to catch that 3rd and 12. That catch is what separates good players from elite players. We need to make those.

As for Boutte, that needs to become a regulation catch/toe-tap otherwise we move on.
