As of now, we need 2 OT's, 2 WR's, 2 TE's and 2 DL's. Obviously, we also need future depth. 8 is a lot.
But, Belichick always comes through.

All of those spots don’t need to be filled by rookies. We usually get 2-3 major rookie contributors. Last year, we had Michel and Jackson.

Wynn is in a tough spot. Not only is he coming off of an injury, but could be leaned on to be the guy at LT barring any trade. We will likely have 7-9 rookies on the 53. 2 major contributors isn't a lot to hope for. Off course, we have Wynn and Bentley back. We need major contributions from Wynn.
Also, we might get something out of Dawson, Izzo, Rivers, Davis, Crossen or Sam. Of course, I'm not counting on any of these youngsters.

I think contributions from rookies is a combination of his ready they are and the quality of the pucks we gave to use.Yes, as was indicated, that is my point.
We can reasonably count on 2 positions to have major contributions from rookies. Therefore, I expect the other 6 to be filled through free agent signings or trades, which could take place from now through the trade deadline.

Last year Wynn and Bentley surely would have contributed and Dawson likely would have if they were healthy.
I don’t think you can base what this years draft class with this years competition for playing time will do based upon a rough estimate of what has happened in other years.

We only need 1 (0 if Wynn works out which I think he will) starting offensive tackle. Flowers has been replaced for one year by Bennett, leaving just Clayborn to be replaced. I count 6 spots which is still a lot. But I think 8 is an exaggeration.
Belichick will bring in 90 players and let them complete. Where they cane from won’t matter.Of course any one year can be wildly different from others. We speculate based on past results.
Also, I disagree with regard to Dawson adding one more rookie with major impact. I suspect that if Dawson were healthy, Jackson would have many fewer opportunities.

Also, Belichick will act based on what he expects of rookies. He can choose to expect 8 rookies to be major contributors. In that case, he would be much less likely to sign significant free agents, and would be much less likely to trade. Alternatively, he might project 2-4, in which case he might take different actions.
What will not happen is for Belichick to not have any expectations, and to ignore the past.
If you don’t believe Wynn replaces brown he at least replaced waddle. We need to replace
Flowers - Bennett
Clayborn
Brown - Pennell
Shelton
Brown - Wynn isn't sufficient
Waddle
Gronk
Allen
Hogan
Patterson

1) We differ on DL. I think that we needed to replace both Shelton and Brown. Both had over 30% of the defensive reps last year.
2) We differ on OT. I think that we need a veteran swing OT as well a developmental rookie.

Personally, I think that 8 is low. We also need a developmental safety, linebacker and quarterback.
I seriously, Seriously doubt that there will be as many as 6 trades/signings available to be made involving players who will make significant contributions. If anything, that ratio should be reversed.Yes, as was indicated, that is my point.
