Lets think about this deus. Welker was here for 6 very productive REGULAR seasons. Spectacular! Playoffs roll around. Yeah he helps move the ball but isn't that monster threat like the regular season. 2011 to me showed why welker isn't the key to winning a championship. Had 2 nice playoff games before the Super Bowl but gronk and ahern were the threats. And in the Super Bowl; yes our D let the giants drive. But welker had the opportunity that Troy brown has had, that Tom Brady has had and deon branch had etc. he had the opportunity to get that ring and show why he is a HOF great player. He had everything right. Open right then, turned around to catch the ball and it bounces off his hands. HE couldn't embrace the role of being one of the greats. He couldn't seize the opportunity like all the greats do. He just can't. So it leads me to say, welker was a awesome player. But he isn't the player you want to have to catch that crucial pass. He drops to many, 2012 AFCCG for example. Wide open and can't catch a pass. Put the dynast branch, Troy brown, heck maybe even gronk, and he catches it. Welker isn't the player for the pats. If you look at how we won SB's it was clutch O that put up the points needed and a D that helped. 07 showed signs of a weak and rebuilding D. We need a D that can gel and the O needs that clutch receiver. Maybe its gronk, who knows. Regardless, welkers gone, probably won't be as productive and playing with the broncos.
