We are lucky to have Amendola

Name one player ever franchised who received a deal that was worth 150% of the tag for 2 years? You guys can pretend the Patriots wanted Welker "to be a Patriot for life," and Kraft's claims they "loved him" but the truth is that they refused to match an offer that you also claim was worth less than the one he signed. Welker's production puts him in an elite category yet they wouldn't give him what they gave Ochocinco, that alone demonstrates just how little respect they had for him.

I gave you a list of a bunch of guys who got less then the tag from 2012. if you want more players do the research yourself.

welker was offered 2 years 16 million guaranteed he turned it down
The next year he was offered three(3) contracts 2/12 no incentives 2/10 incentives 2/15 noncontender.

He choose the easy 2/12 no incentives which has 6 million in guaranteed money.

If he was worth what you seem to think he was worth he wouldn't be playing for 6mil a year right now. The apts offered him 2 years at 2 mil a year over market value full guaranteed and he turned it down. thats on welker.

Does that mean Denver has no respect for him as well? What about the other 30 teams who had every opportunity to snag this elite receiver?

This thread is like the Tyson-Spinks fight - - - and Ivan is Spinks.

Coming from someone who would have applauded the Patriots for trading Brady and keeping Cassel, simply because the Patriots did it, it's hardly an insult.

does anyone else notice ivan skipping right over my facts disproving everything he says?

The guy was a great addition to this team while he was here. Why take shots at him now?

+1000

The Welker bashing is fanbot silliness. It's ok to be appreciative of Welker's time with the Pats AND root hard for Amendola.

And probably on his agent for convincing him that he could get much, much more. Too bad he didn't sign with his best friend Brady's agent. The slot receiver is dead, long live the slot receiver!

Welker :deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse:

I have no issue with the folks who disliked Welker to whatever degree while he was here as they're just being consistent. However there are more than a few anti- Welker fanbots who'd be effusively praisng Welker if he re signed with the Pats.

It's like calling a girl ugly after she dumps you in junior high school.

Wes was a model citizen as a Patriot.
Except when he wasn't. The foot jokes, the stick it in Bill's face joke. Lots of whining towards the end. Chose not to be back. I liked Wes, but he is gone. I root for the laundry and this year Amendola is wearing it!

Your math is getting closer, but "150% of the tag" is still almost $2M lower than the actual offer. It was also completely guaranteed, an increase of $6.5M guaranteed. It also would have been better than what he ended up getting, so you're arguing against something that ended up being factually inferior for him.

Ochocinco's three year contract averaged just over $4M per year, and he saw $5.75M for the one year he played. Welker's $16M/2yr offer was clearly superior. Where the hell are you getting all of these things that you think are facts but are actually completely wrong?

Welker :deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse:

I agree but

Amendola v v v

He could be great, but there are injury concerns, plus no one really knows squat about the guy. Most people's understanding of Amendola is limited to a vague notion that he's a younger version of Welker and he'll just step right in and take over where Welker left off without missing a beat. Based on what? Nothing. Let's see how it shakes out, but at this point there is basically ZERO evidence that Amendola can replace Welker in this offense. So yea, you could say we're lucky to have him--kind of in the same way we're really "lucky" to have 3 TEs on the depth chart behind Gronk. :bricks:

The moron haters are going to hate and that is all there is to it.

Quoted for truth.

There is essentially zero chance that your perception of the situation changes.

You're right, they "wanted him to be a Patriot for life," so they offered 2 years at 5.5 a year. That's almost as much as they gave Ochocinco, they "loved him."

If we are lucky they will also want Wilfork to "be a Patriot for life" and will offer him as much as they gave Tommy Kelly, I'm sure he will feel honored and jump at the offer, but if he doesn't you guys can always call him old, fat, and overrated, as well as a choker, and bid him good riddance.

I was actually really happy they got Amendola because they clearly had no desire to bring Welker back and they needed a player who would potentially be able to fill a big chunk of that production. If he stays healthy I think Amendola will do that and be a really good player for the Patriots.

First of all the money thing has been covered. You keep implying that the Pats offer was so much lower than anyone else to the point of being insulting. The final numbers told us all what we need to know about WW value to a team. Sorry.

If there had been a team that offered 3/27 or something like that then you would have a case. They did not, you dont.

Also, I appreciate that fact that you keep throwing out the "We want WW for life" thing. As far as I know only Bob Kraft said that. Bob Kraft is the owner not the GM or the coach. What Bob wants and what BB ultimately wants and does are two different things. I am sure Kraft was sincere about wanting WW to retire a Pat. BB felt like going in another direction and so far his track record with making personnel decisions has been pretty good.

Please just get over the WW thing already. You are starting to sound really ridiculous.

Welker is gone because he plays a position where he was going to get beat up, is aging, and is a poor schematic fit.

I hated the Amendola signing, because I really don't see the difference between Welker and Amendola. Welker at his age is probably still less likely to get hurt than Amendola and is a proven commodity. Amendola and Welker both are best in between the numbers and we need two role players outside the numbers to keep space open for Hernandez and Gronk.

the year they gave ocho 4.5 a year they offered welker 8

The year after that they offered him 5 plus incentives.

That's normally how things work after you pass your peak, its diminishing returns. thats how smart teams work, they give out contracts based on the future not the past.

I'm not sure why im trying to explain this to you, you think welker should have gotten a 6 year 60 million dollar deal.

He's a consolation prize, and a poor one, given that they lost Welker to their own Machiavelli-style stupidity and arrogance. I wish him the best, but why think of any player as anything more than another cog in the machine when the team doesn't?

By Deus' counting, we would have won 11 Superbowls if only the Patriots would smarten the feck up and do things HIS way (the only right way to do things).

How nice.... one of my first two posts in over a month is responded to with a mindless attack. Gotta love the Stepford posters.
