Now that we know the general category, we should reserve judgment until there are more details. It sounds as if he was arrested for doing something which, in other generations, would have been completely normal behavior. Based on just that, it could be anything from "In the old days they behaved horribly; let's throw the book at anybody who still does that bad stuff today!!" to "Perfectly reasonable behavior on his part; if it was a technical violation of the law then bad on him for not being more realistic about what he's allowed to do" to "Overzealous prosecutor is making an alleged crime out of nothing.

And frankly, based just on the few sentences of known fact to date, I don't even have a strong guess as to where on the spectrum it will come out.

First off, a tHere is an old saying, "you can indict a ham sandwich!" It's a one sided presentation of just the absolute basic elements you need to say that a crime has been committed. The defense is not present and most of the time they don't even know that an investigation is even occurring.

This is what he was indicted under apparently:

Sec. 22.04. INJURY TO A CHILD, ELDERLY INDIVIDUAL, OR DISABLED INDIVIDUAL. (a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally, knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence, by act or intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly by omission, causes to a child, elderly individual, or disabled individual:

(1) serious bodily injury;

(2) serious mental deficiency, impairment, or injury; or

(3) bodily injury.

Texas has a completely thing. So, it appears that whatever he did injured the child to some fair degree.

Idiotic on multiple levels:

1) What does that teach the child? "Don't do something because I'm going to get hit". It should be about "Don't do something because it is WRONG".

2) You trust EVERY PARENT just because they are a parent? What if the parent is a complete psychopath? They have the right to hit their kid just because they procreated?

3) Ground the kid. Take away their electronics. How about TALK to the kid? (unless the parent is a complete imbecile and doesn't know how to mold their own child with his/her words or example).

Resorting to force against a small child is done because of the absence of a working brain.

In no way do I support lack of discipline. My kids get away with NOTHING. They know that if they step out of line they are going to lose something they want. If that doesn't do it, they know that dad is going to embarrass them by showing off my cool dance moves in front of their friends.

I never have to lay a hand on them.

That says nothing about the punishment. There could be different punishments based on the state of mind of the defendant.
