Tony Romo

I liked Romo the first game I heard him do. I can’t stand him now, he’s annoying and never shuts up. For such a know it all you’d think he would have been a better QB

Romo is worthless as an announcer. More often than not he gives a second (and incorrect) assessment of the referee’s decision. “I don’t agree with that call” is is favorite line and it is the absolute worst thing an announcer can possibly say. Let the viewers decide whether they think the referee got it wrong, don’t sit up in the booth and be the “people’s referee”

The clock thing was funny. He goes let's play it back in slow motion. They play it back and it shows him down at 1 second. Then he says something like "well it's too close to call."

Patriot fans would be sucking **** on mass ave for a QB like Romo after Brady.

So many box score scouting, ESPN, group think in here.

It sounded to me like he had a few adult soda pops before the game.

Sorry, but this breaks every rule in the book and is hands down the most annoying color analyst going right now.

We can rattle off names through the years, where even pretty good ones start out that way, and then become increasingly more annoying every year (Dierdorf, Collinsneck, Dan Fouts, etc), but Romo has just been ushered in by CBS to be VERY annoying all the way through as he runs his mouth while openly rooting for the Pats' opponent and misleading the viewing audience.

Did anyone catch them trying to imply the Pats cheated by paying off the NFL clock guy to slow it down before Gostowksi's kick before halftime?

Not only is this completely unprofessional, it's unacceptable. Kraft needs to pick up the phone and call Moonves.

It's not even so much what he says, as bad as it is, but he continuously runs his yap. Take a breath. Also, he is a classic jinx for the Pats opponent. He'll want something to happen so bad, he says something hoping it happens, and whamo, Brady hits White out of the backfield again and he's not telling the listening audience Tenn is 32nd defending the RBs out of the backfield.

If this was not a playoff game, I would have had Nantz and Romo on mute and been spinning records instead.

Just awful.

I miss the days of Charlie Jones and someone like a Merlin Olsen, and what a shame on the weekend Keith Jackson passes away, and we're left with these clowns.

Christ, even Don Criqui would be welcomed with Todd Christensen or something. I weep for the future.
I kinda agree, i find him a bit annoying and always trying to predict the plays. This can be interesting at times but sometimes it takes away from the actual action.

OP just curious who your favorite current announcers are and where you'd rank Romo among them.

He doesn't bother me - I think he's okay and will get better.

I really do not pay too much attention to the announcers - I watch the game and don't need them.

Romo is my favorite announcer

But Saturday night was by far his worst performance of the year, annoying as hell and got quite a few things wrong.

while openly rooting for the Pats' opponent

Huh. Every other fan base is busy whining about how much Romo fawns over the Pats' awesomeness, go figure!

Romo does get some things wrong, as on the OPI. But that's mostly because he's actually trying to make substantive comments. You can't get anything wrong if, like the vast majority of "analysts," you refuse to openly disagree with a penalty call or criticize a coaching decision. Given that he's still new at the job, I can live with the blunders.

What really makes me a Romo fan is that my daughter says he's helping her understand football better by showing how formations dictate plays, talking about when it's strategic to run a particular kind of play, etc. No other announcers do that AT ALL.

This is exactly the way I feel. Or when an injury happens I absolutely hate how he plays doctor and within seconds he has a worst case scenario diagnosis. Sometimes its just better to keep your mouth shut for a second.
He did that pretty badly with Gronk in the Saints game.

I think romo brings a perspective that is really needed.

He saw early in the game that tenn. only had 3 defenders on the left against three blockers and he said bb will run it there. And we did repeatedly.

The best is when he sees something and thinks teams should run a play for whatever he saw and they don’t and they have success without listening to him. Then he spends 20 minutes tap dancing about it.

Do I wish he would shut up sometimes, sure. But rememeber at the end of the day, bb has forgotten more about football than romo will ever know!

Just read thread more closely. Saw that OP would rather have Phil Simms than Tony Romo.

I'm sorry but you are gonna have to work really hard to get back all the credibility you instantly destroyed with that one post. For shame.

Overall Romo is good imo.
He did make a mistake last night in saying the nobody wanted BB before the Krafts hired him, forgetting about the HC of the NYJ thing.
On a positive note he did say it is time to take the Pats D seriously.

I think that was largely true. The Jets didn't "want" him, Parcells wanted a mini me to replace himself. Of cou8rse, maybe other teams did want him minus drasft pick, but his personality at Cleveland did not ingratiate him to a largely personality driven country club, the NFL.

Thought Romo was a lil overrated as a quarterback, but I think he’s phenomenal in the booth. Right away the best color commentary in the game.

Offers great insight, great at breaking down plays and calling plays before they happen.

I don’t find him to be a Pats hater at all. Seems to me he speaks very highly of Brady and BB.
