Romo is the best in the business. Maybe ever.

Nobody's going to top Madden or Cosell.
Oh I loved Cosell and didn't mind getting hammered for it.
Totally agree on Madden ...
The original MNF entire crew was great.

 Golf courses are open all week, and it's harder to get tee times on the weekend.
Not to mention, real golfers stay off most golf courses on weekends.

If Romo goes, does that means Fouts will get elevated to work with Nantz?

How about they take Nanz instead. Now THAT'S one a55hole I wouldn't mind seeing removed from CBS.

For Gravitas sure. But Madden was never as in depth as Romo..

I'm not sure where you came up with that, but it's not true. Romo tends to focus on specific plays, calling them just before the snap (and he gets it wrong more than most people acknowledge). Madden went into more depth on scheme and the like, especially early on, but he did not give away the play ahead of the play, as it were.

I’m still shocked Eye-in Eagle and Fouts got a playoff game.

How is Kevin Harland not above them?

Depends on Cosell. He was simultaneously very popular and very unpopular. My favorite story is about guys buying a cheap tv and firing a gun at the TV when Cosell said something to their disliking.

Cosell, while extremely polarizing, was the best to ever do it.

At times called the most hated and loved man on television, Cosell is what separated Monday night from regular old Sundays. He was famous well before Monday Night Football for his announcing for ABC — mostly for his schtick with Muhammad Ali, who he championed during his fight over the Vietnam War — and is still probably the most polarizing sports figure in television history. His contributions to MNF though are undeniable.

Before ESPN and cable took over the world, fans only saw the team in their market and maybe a late afternoon game too. But highlights from elsewhere? They simply didn’t exist. That’s why Cosell’s halftime highlight show became the most popular part of the broadcast. He’d go over the best plays from Sunday, extemporaneously, and show fans things they would have never seen otherwise. John Madden (who was coaching the Raiders at the time) would have his assistants tell him when MNF got to halftime so he could see Cosell deliver the highlights.

Ranking every 'Monday Night Football' announcer ever, from O.J. Simpson to Howard Cosell

If you find someone who seriously argues that Romo is better than Cosell, you can ignore their take on, well, pretty much everything.

Jim Nantes is a douche.

Romo is the best analyst on TV today.

But Cosell was an EVENT.
