Tony Romo & CBS - $17 million / year.

Please get rid of Tessitore first. He makes every play extremely dramatic and never stops talking in all CAPS.

Leave em both where they are. Replace Tess with Harlan. Booger is good for the laughs and Harlan is the best in the biz and can keep him relatively afloat . It’s absurd Harlan is on the radio while Tess (who is a decent commentator) is on tv.
Olivia Harlan, sideline reporter for the crew?

They need to get rid of the PBP first then work from there. Clean house.

You can find another Nantz. Romo is the draw. You can't pass up 10-14m a year. That's insane money for very little work. Could easily be pulling in 20m a year with other endorsements.

"The multi-year deal could pay Tony Romo between $10 million-$14 million annually, said sources".
As much I cannot stand Nantz, he is good at what he does. He sets up Romo perfectly and they do have good chemistry together.

IMO I think CBS should think about using Romo for their golf coverage. He would not embarrass himself. Hes a scratch golfer.

But $14m per year......sheesh.

Nantz and Romo are long time friends, and the two of them work well together.
Ehhhh I’m not so sure about that. Nantz has been the perfect play-by-play guy to team with Romo because he’s always sat back and let Romo roll without interrupting him or sounding stupid in return. He helped Romo grow in the role a lot. If the money is similar, Romo would be insane to leave CBS and Nantz for the badly managed train wreck that is ESPN and MNF.
I don't mind Nantz at all. A lot worse than him out there. That said people actually want to hear Romo. He's the draw.
I can't imagine Tess is long for MNF anyway. I think you could find someone else to play off. Riddick, Dan O & a few others.

You have one of the following:

  • A higher opinion of Romo than I have
  • A lower opinion of Nantz than I have
  • Both of the above

I'd rather have someone who makes every play sound dramatic vs. the likes of Joe Buck, who makes every play sound like an afterthought.

Wow. A little internet news searching turns up an entire industry devoted to commenting on commentators.

It appears Romo is making close to $10M now, so this isn't as big a jump as we might be led to believe. And that @robertweathers is on to something re: PGA.

Booger was even worse than Dan Fouts, and Romo is the most interesting color guy in years.

BTW, How in hell did Dan Fouts get to call a playoff game? Having to mute a playoff game is rough...

It would be hilarious if Brady decides to do this at some point, and his competitive juices get flowing wrt being compared to Romo, Collinsworth, and Aikman. Think of all that he could share about what NFL players are really doing and thinking as games unfold.

if romo starts doing monday night games he probably gets his weekends back, so family could be a consideration

also he doesn't have to guess what time he works on sundays, the monday game time is set

i think he will take it, I would

Weekends are freed up for GOLF. He loves to golf and is damn good at it (for a non-pro), even invited to a few minor PGA events.

I don’t know Jimmmmmm..... I kind of like Booger even though he’s inane. I think he could be trained to be a decent third guy but not like he was used last year.

But Tony is great with Nantz.

Romostradamus is making $4m/yr at CBS. BSPN would triple his salary.

The golf angle would be huge for CBS. Maybe have him do other shows. They need to think about Romo more broadly than just football. People like him. Hes engaging. I like him more as a broadcaster than I did when he played.

I love golf and watching the majors and big tourneys but the CBS broadcast team is stuffy and tired. Nantz can't get over himself. Faldo is ok but hes a Brit (no offense to Brits). McCord and Costis had to go. Immelman and Love are OK but are dry. Pepper is old as dirt. Wie is a nice add. Balionis is bubbly. Shes fine.

Romo in some kind of a fun, energetic, not-so-serious role where he talks about the course, maybe does some casual interviews, but his segments would appeal to the regular golf fan would be a major home run for CBS guaranteed.

Golf courses are open all week, and it's harder to get tee times on the weekend.

If ESPN dumps McFarland and replaces him with Romo the PC police and outrage mob will be out in full force...I don't see this happening

I couldn't find that anywhere (quick search) but there were tons of these articles from last Spring/Summer so it sounds like there was a major negotiation going on.

If all that resulted in him at $4M again for this season, then he's probably out the door at CBS. They would have had to really hardball him. That wouldn't leave a good taste in the mouth.
