Tiquan released; Ocho active?

Re: I don't like this one bit

They can only keep 53 players. How is it that all of a sudden cutting players in the NFL is heartless?

In terms of releasing the man before the biggest day of his life. If he knows he was going to be IA then fair enough it's not a big deal and hopefully that's how they went about it, but the guy look so pumped on media day so i kinda feel bad for him even though he hasn't done anything this year.

The most obvious explanation is that they wait until Sat to see how much Gronk can handle. If Gronk is found not up to a full pounding, they decide he will be used where he has the biggest impact--as a receiver, and they decide to take him off return teams where he plays in the middle. Now we need another big body (265-270) who can run and block on STs. The options are few. If they decide Silvestri is the best choice there, they gotta create a roster spot because Silvestri is on the PS. Behind Welker and Branch, they will have Edelman. Underwood and Ocho fill spots 4-5 where they might get 1-2 targets between them, so only one will dress anyway (doesn't matter much which). So they release Underwood and will promptly resign him.

Really, the simplest answer is often the right answer.
The Patriots prepared for the SB knowing they could activate 45 players. They included the 53 man roster and the practice squad in that equation.
After game planning, practicing, fine tuning and making their final decisions about how they wanted to attack the Giants, they then chose the 45 best players to execute their game plan. One, Alex Silvestro happened to be on the practice squad. That meant he must be activated to the 53. Therefore one of the 9 players on the 53 who were not going to be active needed to be released.
Based upon contract status, and the future prospects of the players, Underwood was chosen as the one of those 9 to cut.

Everyone is getting so up in arms over this. The net result is that the guy wasn't playing in the SB anyway because he was one of the inactives. All he lost was a meaningless roster spot, because he wasn't going to play in the last game that his contract covered, then he was a free agent anyway.

Again, is it better to be inactive on the roster than off the roster when this is the last game of your contract? There is simply no difference other than the emotional one being created on this board.
What alternative are you saying would have been better?

Even to this day some fans feel they know better than Belichick ... it's a laugher

Tiquan got screwed ... another

Silvestro makes just one play tomorrow then it will be more than Tiquan was going to make anyways.

We will be running the ball a bit more and controlling the clock tomorrow ... Underwood was simply not needed.

Underwood was not going to be active, clearly. The real question is what player is Silvestro replacing that would have been active and now won't play in the SB?
Probably feel worse for him.

This thread is unbelievable..really.

It must be everyone's pre game nerves getting the better of them.
Thank god BB is in this game to win.
These guys are professionals...this is not a high school play, where a teenager's emotional reaction should be factored in.
As Herm Edwards says.."we play to win the game"

BB has to do what he thinks will put them in the best position to win the game...sorry..but if someone's feelings might get bruised...thats tough

Tiquan is a professional and will get over this...

This is such a non story

Give BB some credit...he not a dolt...

there arent any nfl rules against him being on pats sideline in a jersey (in street clothes); ARE THERE?

Re: I don't like this one bit

Practice squad please!

I dont think he can go on the ps, because he has to clear waivers first, and that wont happen until Monday

Not really an alternative is there, i won't lose any sleep was just wondering. It looks like they didn't even consider him at all in the game plan which means Gronk was 100% this whole time and and that Ocho is gonna break out fingers crossed.

I don't know how their could be. BBs dad was on the sidelines, his kids are now.
I saw an NFL films show today on Parcells and his HS Coach was on the sidelines with him for the SBs. Interesting story too. That guy played HS basketball for Vince Lombardi then coached Parcells in HS.

I'd like to think it says something about Gronk, but not activating a fringe receiver who rarely plays doesn't really tell me anything.

How so?

What reports tell you this?

He got cut having done nothing wrong in terms of this being a discipline thing.

I didn't say BB was an ass or did an evil. I said T.U. got screwed.

BB could have had the greatest of non-disciplinary reasons, and T.U. can still have gotten screwed. This isn't an either/or situation.

Good questoin. The only thing reported so far are:
-He was cut to make room for Silvestro
-It wasn't disciplinary and the team would like him back next year
-He wished his teammates good luck

Not sure where screwed fits in between those lines.

funny all these guys trying desperately to put a darth vadar mask on BB. oh well, might as well pile on.

I hope this is a bad parallel.

1996 Troy Brown - declared inactive for SB;

Drew's #2 binkie screwed by traitor Tuna.

'demonstrating absurdity by being absurd'.

Does screwed not imply it was unfair and doesn't it imply someone committed the screwing?

I'm not sure, but there may be an $88,000 difference.

Bad memory. Troy was not even an afterthought in the offense, much less #2 target.
He was however the guy on the KO team that was responsible for the exact part of the field that Desmond Howard ran back the TD through.
Of course, Underwood, if not cut, would have been responsible for standing in a specific area designated for inactive players so I don't know if it could have the same impact.

No.

You wrote:

I repeat my clear question - what report did you see that tells you this?

It's a very simple question.

Pretty sure that is voted on. Also pretty sure if not, the Pats will make him whole.
Also sure if true, someone had to lose 88,000, so one person is no more heartless than another.
