Theory: Cassel deal is not finished, just in phase one

I asked Reiss about this yesterday, he said he did not see it - It's done.

That's my feeling as well. The Pats got a decent pick and unloaded a heavy contract. It would be great if something else came of this, but I'm not seeing it.

Time to move on and let this Cassel trade go - It was fun to talk about for a little while - But now it's moving into that creepy stalking type of mentality - and unless it's Tom Brady, I don't condone the Creepy Stalking approach.

Why hasnt Peppers signed his Franchise tender yet?

I dont get it? He cant be traded until he does so why doesnt get get on with it? No-ones going to give up 2 1sts are they?

There is no reason to sign the tender if you are trying to force a trade. He needs to sign before a trade can be filed with the league but that is a paperwork thing. Teams trade franchised players all the time who haven't signed the tender until after the deal has been worked out.

All signing it does is guarentee the franchise $, give the team the right to trade you anywhere it wants, and give the team the ability to fine you. Cassel signed his because he hadn't made a lot of $ and his agent wasn't sold on his value on the open market. Peppers has no such worries so he isn't going to sign it until very late August if he is still in Carolina.

i think its very interesting that there is talk that there is more to the deal. i hope so just adds more interest to the offseason.

Well, we know you're a Brady stalker. Though i can't blame you. You did get to play golf with him.....b*stard

I may be a stalker, but I'm a nice stalker. At least I think so.

Sort of. The big leverages here belong to Peppers. His agent can work out a trade and a contract and THEN approach the team. If the tender was signed with would not be allowed. Peppers holds all the marbles, including the Panthers' ability to spend any money.

Taylor hitting the market is going to affect Peppers' leverage with the Pats, however, at least until he signs somewhere.

Nicest stalker I know.

That makes two, we have a quorum.

PJ - What's your Sig? One of the kids draw you a picture?

Ha, yeah. My 5 year old boy drew a picture of me called "David Is Weiner". According to him, that thing shooting at my head is a "a weiner peeing on you". I thought it was so funny I hung it up in my office. :singing:

I think this move to China has had an emotional impact on him. And maybe also the fact that his parents are weirdos. He is a ballbuster supremo already. And clearly he knows how to show respect to his old man.

Well, I damn near fell out of my chair reading that. :singing:

Good stuff. Look forward to his first post on Patsfans - PJjr.

I am amazed to continue hearing this type spin: ..."The Pats probably preferred taking the #3 Pick in Round 2 versus the #12 or #19 pick in Round 1 because they would be forced to pay that player a higher salary..."

That is like saying I would be opposed to trading even-up a new Toyota for a new BMW because the excise taxes on the BMW were higher.

Yeah, this deal is definitely finished. Done. Over.

While conspiracy theories are nice to think about, I think they're just a way to try to avoid brute facts.

Mike Vrabel is my favorite player, and I think we should have absorbed his cap hit. However, Kansas City was the only willing taker for both players, so we unloaded him there.

Personally, I think we got screwed. But these are just the brute facts. We needed to clear cap space and we did. There are no counter or side deals, what's done is done (I'm not saying we couldn't acquire Peppers, but Peppers wasn't part of any mega-trade-agreement).

Perhaps KC will "trade" Vrabel back to us...

Re: Theory: Cassel deal is not finished, just in phase one.

you may be onto something. the only thing is that Peppers is scheduled to make 14 million. we only have like 15 million under the cap. we need some $$ to sign a CB and maybe a WR or S.
OK, but we couldn't afford Peppers until Cassell was traded away.

Re: Theory: Cassel deal is not finished, just in phase one.

This isn't the MLB where the Sox trade for a "player to be named later".
Seems to be that's how the Vrabel part of the deal went down.

Nice conspiracy theory but I think it's over, finito, the end. The Pats may make more moves from here on out but I don't think they're going to involve the Chiefs yet again? What reason would there be to?

I think Bill and Scott are in fact the SAME person.

HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN THEM TOGETHER?

No, see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone call Mulder and Scully, this is getting weird.

IF something is still coming, what could it be?

I don't think anyone got screwed, I think we haven't seen it all yet.

What do you think?

The article and you seem to think it is somehow odd that KC hasn't been answering question after question from the mediots. Have the writer and fans suddenly 'forgotten' that GM Pioli has been steeped in the Patriots culture of speak little and simply act? Y'know he did work here for a while and rather closely with BB. It's most likely that he's wisely observed that yakking away does not help the franchise and actually risks an accidental blowing off of the toes or worse by a simple mis-statement.

Re: Theory: Cassel deal is not finished, just in phase one.

Ok, I get it, no-one wants to play along.

But I reserve the right to say "told-ya" if another complicated trade with the Chiefs that seems conversely lopsided goes down.

Yeah lol well until then you need to start admitting you were wrong about Cassel's value don't ya think?
