For sure it is complex. But the breaking point appears to be whatever the offer was in August. It was then that Brady asked to be a FA.

Well, let’s hope they come back with a better offer that may entice him to stay, but it just seems like the writing is on the wall that he’ll be moving on. Until we hear some leaked numbers, we have no idea if the offer was fair or not, but either way, I believe that he was still the 14th highest paid QB last year so his salary shouldn’t have been that different than it’s been for awhile. It just seems to be an odd time to make a big deal about it when you’re turning 43, as opposed to all of the fuss that he could’ve created over the years if he really wanted to. I don’t know.

You may be right, but I was responding directly to a poster who specifically cited the culture, so that’s why I included it in my response.

We do know that Brady wasn’t happy with the Guerrero situation, as that was on full display in the documentary. We’ve also heard rumblings that Gronkowski felt the same way, so it’s quite possible that it is about more than money. I just find it odd that someone would stay here for 20 years, and then all of a sudden at the end of their illustrious career, they suddenly decide that they no longer wish to finish out their career and retire over money. Especially when it’s someone who’s part of a power couple arguably worth more than Jay-Z and Beyoncé. To me, this has to be about much more than just the financial aspect.

I think there's something to it, while it's not the one thing, it's likely a contributing factor. I have discounted the Tom-wants-to-play-until-he's-45-because-of-TB12 talk for sometime, but I am willing to acquiesce that that might be a factor. I think @robertweathers point of Tom as to who he is evolving is a factor. I think the lack of weapons is a factor. I think Tom wanting respect and that translating as a long term deal because he's earned the right to do what the hell he wants is a factor. I think Tom thinking that he's done everything there is to do and the organization should back him because he's made Kraft and Belichick HOFer's is a factor. I think Gronk's influence is a factor.

Or, he signs a year to year deal here because the market is soft on a 43yr old slow footed GOAT. Then I say "NEVERMIND".

Brady is worth more, financially to both the Chargers and the Raiders than he is to the Pats. Consider the jeresy sales alone. However, the Raiders will have absolutely no problem selling out each and every game. Its Vegas, the casinos alone would buy up all the tickets.

The Chargers however, need Brady, they need something, they are co-locating with the Rams in their new stadium. The Chargers couldn't sell out a high school gym last year. No way they fill that stadium (without Brady). They need some sort of excitment. They have around $57 million in cap space right now, they can free up another $8.5 million by cutting Trai Turner. The have the Williams' and Kennan Allen, and a decent defense. Of course, that means two games a year versus the Chiefs, Raiders, and Denver, so making the playoffs would be tough, but they would be in LA (where his other son lives), sell everything on the East Coast, Giselle could make more money and Lord knows how much money the Chargers would be willing to put up for Brady.

The more I think about it, how quickly they jettisoned Rivers, this may be the Chargers plan. And the more I think about it from a Brady perspective, this might be the place he is looking to go.

Bridget Moynahan has lived in New York since 2010 because she is on "Blue Bloods" which is in their 9th season on CBS. So...presumably Brady's eldest son lives in NY with his Mom. The kid was born in August of 2007...which will make him 13 years old this summer...and 2 years away from playing High School ball, IMO...that is if the kid plays sports. I think that's the plan...for Brady to play 2 more years and be a Dad at his son's games. Los Angeles has nothing to do with this, IMO. We saw some of it in the Brady documentary, and if the reports are true about him turning down a multi year deal to retire a Patriot, then it’s fairly obvious that there was some fire with that smoke. Why else would a man who’s played 20 yrs and has money for generations suddenly decide that he wanted to end his career somewhere else? Does anyone really still think that this is about money?

Brady's biggest issue, the thing he says over and over is that he wants to play until 45 and possibly beyond. It was indicated to him that the Pats want to go year to year. I believe he is looking for a bigger commitment in terms of years and that will be why he leaves. A real bummer but I get it on all fronts. The Pats won't give him a 3 year deal but at the same time, if he can find a team to give that to him, he should. Like Kraft said, after 20 years and 6 rings and he can do whatever he wants. Just sad for us fans.

So I haven't read any of these speculative so-called stories.
Until the cba was done and more importantly the 2 day legal tampering was about over, nothing really COULD be done by either side.
