DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION The Official NFL Draft Day 2 thread

And another year with no 3-4 DEs. Innnnnteresting.

But Fanene added.
If we play 34 we are thin at DE, with Fanene, Deaderick and who knows.
If we play 43 we are good at DE, but thin at DT, with Wilfork and who knows.
Equally troubling is that we are thin at the inside passrusher spot in the sub package.
I'm expecting some veterans brought in for depth and rotation.

BB agreed that we were all set at CB, woot.

I am going to bed (4am in the UK) pretending the Pats selected Jake Bequette in the 2nd round and Tavon Wilson in the 3rd.

The 2nd and 3rd rounds have felt like the 7th round.

Another thing I love about this: He could become insurance for us if Chandler Jones doesn't pan out.

I like him too, but the only thing is he is a tweener. No true position, he can't stand up in the 3-4 and may be a situational DE in the 4-3. He has nice burst off the edge and has a nice outside speed rush with his hand in the dirt.

If Ninkovich can stand up, this guy can, according to the measurables.

I like this pick.

17 sacks the past two years, 10 this year.
His 3-cone was the fastest for DE's, indicating ability to cover, some versatility. Great agility for his size. Played some TE as well as DE. Overachiever.

Rotational edge rusher.

He has an outstanding 3 cone, but I read elsewhere that he was very stiff in the LB drills.

There's a lot of misinformation about TAYvon Wilson being named Big Ten honorable mention by coaches and media.

Not true.

Not so named by coaches, ONLY by the media. So doesn't that tell you something? He's just not much of a playmaker.

Here's the list: all_bigtenteams.pdf - By Nitro PDF Software

Here's an example of the misinformation: http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=84999&draftyear=2012&genpos=SS

He had ONE int last year when Casey Hayward playing in the SEC had SEVEN.

This pick is absolutely mystifying. Now I'm getting the taste what my Cleveland friends had to say about stubborn Belichick.

Well. Overall I'd say it's been a very nice draft so far. I'm still confused about Tavon Wilson, but I really like the other 3 picks. If they work out, we'll finally have some pretty good pass rush. And about Wilson... well, let's wait. Nobody over here knows him, so let's be patient with him.

That pick has really cheered me up. Not just because he's white, but I see him as a Vrabel type - blue collar guy who'll get their on effort.

ended his career with 21.5 sacks 6'5 270 pounds, strong and fast
A power player with good bull rush, stays low to get under the pads of linemen and work through blocks... Extends his arms and uses his hands well to disengage, violent player who can knock linemen off balance, establishes leverage and can penetrate the line of scrimmage with push-pull

move... Gets his hands up in passing lanes when he can't get to the quarterback... Has the tools to develop into an above average run defender, thick player with a physical build and solid frame, has the strength to anchor, gains leverage off the snap to control blocks on contact, very good stack and shed type player... Locates the ball quickly and does a nice job in backside pursuit; plays with a high motor, works through the whistle, the majority of his pass rushing success comes by working hard and creating pressure with his motor... Diagnoses plays fairly quickly, is rarely fooled by misdirection or screens, has good instincts as both a pass rusher and run defender... Has played all over the defensive line at Arkansas, very smart and experienced player; overachiever who should make a rotation early in his career and might eventually develop into a starter with hard work, also a very good fit as a 3-4 DE (5-technique)... Redskins coaches used him as a 3-4 OLB at the Senior Bowl, was quoted as saying it was unexpected but a great opportunity.

Bequette is a good pick but the Pats are getting loaded at DE/OLB. Does M. Carter have a place on the team?

Would have preferred a DT but Bequette at least is a player

Carter couldnt make the team last year. Not sure why we would worry about him making it this year. He is a fringe guy.

Now we have too many DE and LBs? Never thought I would hear that sentence written/uttered.

lol that was pretty funny.

That's two years running without a DE/DT. Can we start accepting that BB doesn't see the need there please. Been preaching this all draft season.

Boykin is really slipping, love him as a KR, could play slot corner for us.

It took ninko a while to get to where he is now. I don't think we will ask this guy to do that at 275 lbs.

I like guys like this as nickel/dime DTs. Its a mismatch for a G.
The Giants have had great success with the 4 DE sub package. Perhaps BB has taken notice?

Sub DL?
Scott
Fanene
Bequette
Jones

With guys like Ninko, maybe Hightower, Cunningham in the outside rotation
and Wilfork, Pryor and maybe even Jones and Scott working inside at times
