Not all that surprised by Solder. Vollmer wasn't even invited to the combine and was an all pro by his second season. I honestly liked Solder more than Carimi and Castonzo. He is a Vollmer for the left side, Dante will have him starting this year at LT.

Pats obviously like Solder better than Costanzo. Dante worked out all the linemen himself, so if he likes Solder, I'll put my faith in Dante and BB picking the right franchise LT to protect Brady.

Yeah, let's all act as if the OL wasn't a troublesome area on the team going forward. While we're at it, let's pretend we just got some stiff that no one has ever heard of. Let's cry because they took a tackle, and tackles can't sack QBs or intercept passes, so they're boring and you can't go to bed tonight imagining what an exciting player he'll be.

Solder is a spectacular athlete with spectacular size -- the absolute Pats physical prototype. The reason I didn't expect him at #17 is that his technique is very raw...but look at what Dante did with Vollmer, seemingly overnight. I don't hate the pick.

We always knew that Best Tackle Available was a possibility for months. Most judged that Costanzo was Belichick's choice. Solder is certainly a fine choice. Obviously, many of us would have preferred Amukamara or Jordan. But if we need a LT for 2011 or 2012, then we do.
