I thought it would be nice to have a place to discuss everything about Drake Maye, our new quarterback. Patriots camp has also just started.

So let's get talking, shall we?

Here's a first look at Maye donning the number 10 with a red practice jersey.

Here is Maye walking onto training camp practice field for the first time:

Here's a deep throw from Maye to Reagor who makes a sick one handed grab:

Another deep toss from Maye to 86 (Kawaan Baker?):

Maye autographs a Carolina jersey for some kids:

Day 1 Recap of Maye's performance:

In other words, it's early days guys. There's some stuff to get excited about for sure. But expect some bumps in the road and some growing pains for a very young rookie QB. But hey it doesn't hurt to carry a little optimism going forward. And hopefully this thread can provide a place for our discussions on Drake Maye going forward.

Like Mac Jones, Maye should beat out Brissett. I think the Maye sitting plan will be thrown out window come pres-season. Brissett is a massive downgrade to Jones.

A downgrade from 2021 Mac sure.

Joe Milton is also our new QB but there's no thread about him.
It's disappointing, really. I mean Joe has played as much as Maye and clearly done as much.

Even though I'm not a fan Biscuit throws a better spiral than noodle arm Mac. But then again who doesn't repeat after me May day May day.

I think the highlight of the first article:

"My main takeaway from watching Brissett practice as the current QB1 is that it's fine. Brissett is mostly in rhythm, sans the Dugger pick, and has a knack for fitting throws into tighter windows in the 8-12-yard range. However, the offense doesn't have the juice it does with Maye.
Due to his superior physical traits, Maye is a more dangerous playmaker than Brissett
"

Really need to get the pads on next week! Anyone can throw without fear of getting hit, pads on is when Maye will pull away IMO.

Joe Milton is also our new QB but there's no thread about him.
He's a shot in the dark late round pick, odds of like 1% of success. Statistically and tape he has all the characteristics of a QB that never makes it, not sure much to talk about vs the future starting QB?

Jones doesn't have a very strong arm and didn't seem to read defenses very well. He was pretty gun shy and a bit of a crybaby. He was also a mistake waiting to happen. Other than that he's pretty good.

Brisett is here because of experience.

Experience as an NFL QB. Experience in live NFL games that count - preseason is not an accurate barometer. And, most of all, Brisset has experience in the totally new Pats offense that all the offensive players needs to absorb.

The way I see it, 4 things need to happen for Maye to start.

1 - Concrete evidence that the 2024 Pats have the new offensive scheme down. No to few mistakes.

2 - Brisset playing poorly and he is the reason for losing. A sputtering few points offense. Example: the Pats throw deep and the blocking holds up and the WR is open for a TD, but Brisset cant get the ball there resulting in an INC or INT. Pats lose. You have to think to yourself that if Maye was QB the ball would be there and caught for a score.

3 - Brisset is injured, but not because of the blocking.

4 - Maye is ready to start.

Pretty much the same consensus as I've seen here. He won't lose games but he won't win them either. There's a reason why he doesn't turn the ball over much it's because he plays very safe football. Which is fine for a game manager but not if you need to push the ball downfield, or if you're behind or need to keep up in a shootout. And no he is NOT an "above average" QB. lol. Great teammate though and that's nice to know.

I expect Maye will absolutely be our starter at some point this season.

Or Kraft says play the kid.

The Mac of 2021 would have been an upgrade over Brissett on the 2023 version we saw. I will continue to maintain Drake will be the starter.

I'm with you my guy... as camp wears on... you will continue to read things like this....

Brissett played great in the game and a half of action that he played last season before getting hurt. I saw 2 of the games last season, he moved the WA offense up and down the field when he was in. Mac of 2021 was a mirage. Brissett is a professional QB who will not blink. Let's see how the OL plays in preseason.
