The Butthurt Ensues: This time it is Bruce Arians

I have a theory that teams actually spend way longer than normal preparing for the Patriots, because they lose so infrequently that its a a feather in the cap for any coach that can get a victory against them...

I picture Rex Ryan dedicating extra resources to preparing game film, etc on the Patriots like 3-4 weeks before they even play them. It might be similar for other coaches and teams, they use the Patriots as a measuring stick and they take the game so seriously... when they lose, they just have a total mental melt down
Along those lines, I remember Josh McD telling BB that he understood how hard it was to prepare for us when they embraced before the game when Josh briefly coached the Broncos. I do think teams put extra thought into preparing for NE. We are the other team's measuring stick each week. I think as much as they want to win, they also use that week to see where they stack up against the best.

I've never really seen anything quite like this. First it's the GM, wailing in public, now BA is calling out players etc. What, exactly did the Patriots do to them? Watch them implode :D

I guess that's what happens with the Rodgah effect. Teams have already won because the Commish basically told them they would. That's a huge advantage for the Pats.

Bruce Arians was willing to call out players by name after loss
I think the team thought that they could just show up and win the game, they believed the hype. Without brady it would be an easy win, and it was ariens job not to allow that to happen.

they are all sorts of rattled right now

Hmmmm, it was on the road so Pats had no access to balls or headphones, it was in Arizona so no cold or snow, Tom Brady was nowhere near the stadium, the Pats had more fumbles than the Cardinals, and the penalties were heavily in the Cardinals' favor.

Tough call, but it looks like the Cardinals may need to own this one

I think it use to be worse back then. When the pats beat what was suppose to be a good team, that team didn't play well for a month afterward.
In 01-06 they physically beat teams up.

Now not so much as the rules and the game have changed so much.

Teams are still mortified and stupified

AZ was a missed field goal from beating the winningest football team in the world. Probably shouldn't be too upset.

They lost at home to a team missing its 2 best players and whose best OL was Marcus Cannon

Just a minor point of disagreement but this was not a JV squad that played AZ. The Patriots are a deep and talented team that is well coached. Even with Gronk out we have Bennett who did a great job blocking and helping out the OL. Edelman, White, Hogan, Mitchell, Amendola, Bennett all caught passes. The defense is pretty much the same defense we had last year except for Long and Valentine.

I can see how AZ and the betting public would think that the Pats had no chance. Just imagine if AZ had to play without Palmer, Fitzgerald and their LT Veldheer in Gilette stadium with Pats at full strength, It would be devastating to us as this loss was devastating to them.

The difference between Arians and BB is BB would have said I got to coach better, all the coaches have to do a better job. BB would never diss a player in public. In private he might rip them a new hole but never in public.

In all the years that BB has been in NE there has only been one or two instances of him even calling out opponents, let alone his own players. There was FredX. And maybe another... One time he suggested no one was wrong as often as Casserly.

Then, when time passes, people like Chung, Branch, and others are happy to return and contribute. BB does not allow petty behaviour to limit future games. He is #1. BA isn't.

A history of Bill Belichick’s best postgame rip jobs: ‘That’s a lot of conversation coming from a team that just lost another game’

Arians has always been a sore loser. He refused to accept that the Pats blew the Dolts out in that 59-24 game when Talib returned an interception for a TD in his first game and Edelman returned a punt for a TD. Apparently non-offensive TD's don't count so it wasn't a blowout...LOL!o_O

I thought he was going to cry as Blount carried over half his defense into the end zone.

Yeah, he really had that "Oh, ****" look on his face at that point. You could clearly see it.

I believe this is the second "Casino" reference I've seen on the board today. Not only do we all share a love of our top notch football team, but we all appreciate great cinema as well. Ah yes, we are the smartest sports fans out there.

I don't know if liking "Casino" necessarily proves it, but yes--we're Wicked Smaht. :)

I was under the impression that for Arians this is his normal "outspoken" self. That GM though seems to be pretty salty.

The GM is a goof, so is the owner. I witnessed this first hand while watching that documentary on Amazon. That said, I tend to agree with you that while Arians' approach is obviously much different from BB, I didn't see to much out of the ordinary with him. Besides, I believe that it was the GM who made these comments first, with Arians simply echoing the notion.

As others have mentioned, when you're openly hyping a SB appearance, it may have a detrimental effect on the organization as a whole. That, and the fact that Amazon chose them as the team for the documentary likely didn't help matters. They've received a ton of attention. If you want to take it one step further, those poor people don't have much else to root for out there, so the pressure may continue to mount.

Its comical. Its like people become possessed when they lose to the Pats in a big game. They lose all their sensibilities. Martz, Warner, Faulk, LT, Fisher, Squealers in 01

Or any other year, for that matter! For all of the "we're 'steel' tough" talk these people like to throw around, all they really do is whine when their team shows up unprepared.

I do think that they show up this year at Heinz field, particularly after the devastating opener last season, but that's a conversation for another day.

If the D is healthy that won't be as difficult as one would think. Double Brown, put Butler on the second best guy and mix and match the rest.

There's not really an AFC team that I'm too concerned about (at the current moment), but I do think that we can sometimes tend to take these very tough road games for granted a bit.

If Tomlin loses to the Pats again it will be pure joy. I certainly hope that you're right. The last time I was able to see "our" team play in person was the loss at Heinz in 2011, and it sucked sitting there watching those yinzers cheer all afternoon.
