I still can't figure out how Baltimore didn't run for over 200 yards.

It will be interesting to see if the Patriots attempt a copycat strategy at some point. A 4-7 may maximize the defense's talent in certain situations.

The charger defense faced an incompetent offense and the Balt defense didn’t. LA allowed back to back 4th quarter TD drives of 75 and 80 yards and may have actually lost the game if they didn’t get the strip sack and almost surely would have lost the game if the other team had an nfl qb.
Chargers won but it’s very hard to argue they played better defense much less much better defense.

They played good defense for 3 quarters. Ravens still weren't able to get anything going. Chargers let up in 4th quarter and Ravens took advantage. Chargers looked gassed at the end of the game yesterday. Cold weather definitely seemed to bother them.

The stuffed the box with their DBs and rushed on the inside a lot which made running hard.

I think if Jackson could have hit his TE or WRs a couple times in the 1st qtr they would have pulled back and made it easy to run.

That is what Tom will do.

No, but a majority of Jackson's runs are ad lib scramble-based runs, so speed and tackling were more important than fending off blocks. NE would wham them with Develin and Gronk or Allen wiping out undersized DBs on the second level & Michel ripping off big gains. Plus the DBs would be further back vs. NE due to the threat of a pass.


Not sure why Baltimore / Harbaugh could not adjust to try something like that, more of a straight power football attack, but BB would I'm sure.

Yes. It is.

Sony is better than Dixon and Edwards. Tom can actually complete passes down the field which will open up the box for Sony, Cord, Burk and White for catches in the flat and short.

The traditional running game I would say yes. A lot of Baltimores numbers were a result of Jackson dropping back looking at one read and then taking off. He gets himself one on one in the open field against LBs that had dropped into coverage. The 7 DBs was a great idea that paid off, by getting faster, quicker guys who can transition from coverage to open field run defender much easier.

They didn't have to deal with road grades in the 2nd level in that situation. If they do that against us they would get devoured by our releasing OLinemen with Devlin cleaning up the road kill.

The game is 4 quarters. The answer to almost blowing the game against an incompetent offense isn’t “sure they were great because they played well for 3 quarters.”
