Poor Jason !

He does not like the offer on the table, so he is going to take his ball and go home (Retire).

You had your chance at arbitration and you turned it down you fool.

Don't let the door hit you in the arse Jason !

I always liked Jason but I have to agree, the stick was never great...adequate but not great but now it's much less than adequate.
I guess we're going to see if Sox pitching can thrive without Teks guidance.

If he really refuses to accept the offer and would rather sit out or retire, than most of my respect for him will be gone. If someone told me I could play for the Red Sox for a good sum of money [and I was already rich] or I had the option to retire, it would be a no brainer to play. If he doesn't except than he is greedy and selfish.

Wow are we screwed; how are we going to replace the worst hitting catcher in baseball? A cardboard cut out could hit for a higher average than this guy.

Borass has really dropped the ball this offseason, first with Manny (cons him into shooting his way out of town so he can bail on the last two years of his Red Sox deal at 20 million per and tells him he can get him 4 years at 100 million; he's lucky if he gets 3 years 45 million at this rate), then with this mensa candidate, tells him to decline arbirtration and now he's got a take it or leave it low ball offer.........

For most of his time as a Red Sox player, he was one of the best hitting catchers in baseball, so I have no idea what you're talking about. 2006/7/8 have been a different story, but prior to that he was elite.

Well i just heard he received a one year deal with another as a option so he will be back next season.

As I have stated, I like JV and always have since the Sox first acquired him.
He's always had a hard nose attitude and never back down from
anyone(A rod).
But when I think of elite hitters I think 40 homers, over 300 avg, 100 rbis.
Jason has never hit more than 25 home runs, has flirted with .300 three times in his 12 year career and the closest he came to 100 rbis was 85 in 03.

Ultimately I have to concede your point because there really isn't too many catchers hitting better than JV was.
I guess I have a hard time associating elite with those numbers.
I'm also a little annoyed with his attitude in recent contract negotiations.

One of the members here theorized that he turned down $10 million in arbitration so that he could sign for less later and keep more after his divorce was final ...

He has always been one of my least favorite players ... he is what he is.
where is Doug Mirabelli when you need him :confused2: ...

I appreciate him for what he was but man do I hope the Sox are thinking about his replacement. Hopefully a minor league prospect can come up and step up.

Mauer in 2010?

No chance, the Yankees will do their usual back a Brinx truck up to the guys doorstep. Any elite free agent goes to the Yankees, that's just the way it is...........

nobody ever said he turned down arbitration to cash in after his divorce. you must be off your meds again. the theory was tek was waiting to sign the contract he now has till after his divorce was final. try to keep up.

teks divorce goes to mediation today. meaning if he signed a contract before today there was a very good chance that half of the contract would have gone to his soon to be x wife. when he signs after today the entire contract money is his alone.

Okay ... I'm up.
