The Biggest surprise has to be the Pats trading up not once, but TWICE in the round. Not only that, but trading up for Chandler Jones and Dont'a Hightower.

Risers:
1) Stephon Gilmore (He was rated a late 2nd going into the combine and became a top 10 pick. Hope this isn't another Ashton Youbouty for them)
2) Fletcher Cox (Can't believe some people thought he was a top 5 pick)
3) Mark Barron (Top 10? REALLY??)

Fallers:
1) Peter Konz
2) Courtney Upshaw
3) Cordy Glenn
4) Janoris Jenkins (ok, for some, but not everyone)
5) Devon Still

Loser:Browns

Solid pick @ 3 but nothing more.
Lots of picks to trade up and get more help and they take a 28 yr old QB.
They had/have plenty of picks to move up and grab 2 more Solid players.

Having 7/8 late rounds picks will not help them.

The big shocker has to be Bruce Irvin to Seattle in the middle of round 1. I've been public before in saying how I think the term "reach" is overrated because we don't really know for sure if a guy would have certainly been around much later. However, I just can't get my head around that one.

Bruce Irvin in the top 20...bwahahaha.

I'm shocked Upshaw wasn't picked today.

I'm mildly surprised Cordy Glenn didn't go today.

I'm (pleasantly) surprised the Jets didn't take Riley Reiff or Cordy Glenn for their RT need.

Tannehill and especially Weeden got way overdrafted (but Tannehill to the Phins wasn't a surprise).

Morris Claiborne falling that far.

If you looked at the Patriots Pre-Draft contacts... you should NOT be surprised we traded up once.

But you are right, trading up TWICE was a bit surprising. Almost too good to be true.

Hightower is a bit surprising. While he can play OLB and DE, his main position is ILB and we already have Mayo and Spikes. But I'm confident BB will find him a solid role on our team. He'll probably beat out Ninkovich for his spot eventually.

I'm also shocked the JETS took Coples.... a questionable motor and work ethic... He is not gonna succeed with that locker room and the drama the NYJ have. They also took Wilkerson last year who fills the same role that Coples will.

I thought they would take Ingram for sure.

I think they should have gone WR at 22 and traded up in the 2nd if they thought he wouldn't be there at 37. 22 was a stretch, who else realistically would have taken Weeden in the 1st?

If they get 5 solid years out of that 28 year old QB, he will be the best QB they have ever had, and maybe the best pick they have ever made.
28 is old if you expect 15 years out of the guy, but not if you expect 5-10.
Point in fact, if Drew Bledsoe were 28 when the Pats drafted him he would have been 36 when Mo Lewis created a dynasty.
Are you saying the length of Bledsoe's Patriot career made him a failed pick?

He was their guy. Its silly to get cute and lose him if he is your guy.
Reports were if Tannehill and Weeden were both on the board, the Browns were taking Weeden.
Perhaps the Dolphins took the wrong guy just because he is younger?
Personally, I tihnk Tannehill was a wasted pick who will never be close to a decent NFL starting QB, so Weeden at 22 can't really be any worse.

Bruce Irvin in the top 20...bwahahaha.

Bruce Irvin to Seattle saved our draft IMO...

If Seattle takes Ingram... Chargers then take Jones or McClellan... then Chicago takes who ever is left out of Jones/McClellan...

and we wouldve been stuck with Nick Perry or Mercilus, who I think are both better suited as pure 43 DE's.

Or we wouldve had to trade up even higher (giving up more) to get the players BB wanted.

I was very surprised that Seattle took Irvin in the 1st round. He's 25 years old and has had a tough life, so I'm happy that he can cash in and maybe turn his life around.

But I really don't know what they were thinking taking him so high.

My biggest surprise was that my jaw didn't shatter from hitting the floor after the Patriots traded up the second time.

Has this ever happened while BB has been here?

No kidding! I was texting a friend while the Steelers were on the clock and looked up and saw NE was next. "Wha....what? Wait, we're on pick 24, next is 25, what? Did we trade up again?!"

ugh, I know
Has to be one of the most overrated prospects in recent memory
A solid player, but absolutely nothing special, I've said it allll along

I thought for sure the Steelers would grab Hightower. I thought he was lost to us.But I guess the OL need was just too great.

Ya know, in case you didn't notice, Ninko very quietly out produced Clay Matthews this past season, despite the fact he doesn't get to free lance as much a Matthews is. So don't be so fast to "replace" him with the first draft pick who flashes his ass at you.

That being said I too questioned Hightower and would have preferred Mercilus with the 2nd pick. We really don't need another starting ILB, especially when they spend most of the time on the sidelines these days. I can only think that BB will mix and match Hightower depending on the game plan at OLB, DE, and ILB and get reps there. I thought 25 was too high for a guy that I think of as Brandon Spikes with more speed.

The biggest surprise for me was how fast it all went. 3 hours and 5 minutes. Especially with all those trades. Teams must have had their sh!t together to get all their deals done and only average around 5 minutes a pick. Refreshing.

Surprises....BB using Both First round picks and taking Two OLB'S

I mean every year there will be a team(s) that make bizzare picks, its not every year that BB trades up, uses both 1sts and takes Two OLB

I was surprised when the Patriots went to #21 for Jones, but I was happy. I was shocked when they showed up on the clock again a few picks later and actually thought it was a misprint, or I was seeing sh.t. And the fact that they made both moves for defensive front 7 and didn't give up either 2nd still has me wondering if i'm sleeping. I love it, couldn't be happier and I would love to see them close it with 2 really good picks in the 2nd, I don't need anything more than that because i never expected this good a first to begin with.

i wasn't shocked at all that we traded up... I was actually getting mad that we didn't trade up earlier for Melvin Ingram...lol

Just be happy he didn't go to the Jets.
