State of the Board Discussion [Moved to Here]

Any ode to NEM must include the terms "slants" and "in cuts"...Mike Martz must've been his ideal OC. He'd often post after a game a number of specific plays that were bad calls and how a "slant" or an "in cut" would've been a TD.

@Kontra pretty much nailed it - every post, regardless of topic, would always have negative comments regarding the OC and the play calling. That said, he was consistent - there wasn't any Patriots OC that didn't see NEM's wrath in textual form. He was also prolific...and always had to have the last word/post. You could post "you win" after 45 straight back and forths and you'd still get an answer from him regardless.

He was passionate though. Spent time not just here, but other boards as well going way back to AOL days. I'm not sure there was a list serve, message board, "hangout", or any other IT "make your voice be heard" application regarding New England sports NEM wasn't part of. He also spent time on a Celtics board I was part of as well (that ironically died from polarization of the fandom during the first part of Danny Ainge's run as GM - the negatives and positives finally got out of hand and people stopped posting).

I'm sure there are others that know him better as I think some posters here actually knew him IRL - I'll defer to them for a non-virtual perspective.

Obviously, posting alternative concerns, and perspectives is fine. I think some of us got a little too wrapped up in a lot of the criticism we saw early in the preseason already writing off the season, which is frustrating. There's no issue with people venting as long as it's done in a constructive way, which as long as that's the case, I don't have an issue with it.
Normally i'd say you are right and agree perspectives are fine.

But you aren't. And I dont.

The reason this board has is and has been contentious for the past three years? Its about the same posters doing the same damn thing thread after thread - there are five or six people who unrelentingly spread negative posts about the Patriots. And people react to those posts. Most are cleverly disguised trolls, but they are indeed trolling posts.

And its just about the same 5 or six guys who are the most active in the Brady forum. Coincidence? No ****ing way.

For the people who post "they suck" in every post, those would be the ones I would ask to try and be a little more thoughtful. There's not a whole else to watch in the fall and it's probably safe to say this season is going to be a little rocky but it doesn't change the fact the rest of us are going to try and at least follow along and enjoy whatever good things ultimately come from it. But I would still encourage people to provide honest takes - good or bad - as long as it's things that the rest of us can provide or have a reasonable discussion about.

Ha! Ian, you are such a good guy and clearly want to believe that even the Patsfans Fellowship of the Miserable can change.

To steal from one of the all-time great musicals:

They're disturbed, they're disturbed
They’re the most disturbed
Like they're psychologically disturbed.

In my opinion, the mods need to employ Singapore-style punishments for recurrent offenders (incessant whining/complaining/bashing), in order to try to return this site to its former glory.

We should have a political board

I kid because I love.

Here's to the ugly preseason being epic sandbaggery

I got nostalgic and put on the 1961 version last night or the night before. stop spying on my cable,

@Ian didn’t he call you at home one time?

I don't like posters that purposely stir up sht and troll frequently and then go running to a mod about being picked on if someone responds negatively to it

If you replace “posters” with “grown men,” this statement becomes even more cringy and pathetic.

While there is some truth to that, it doesn't change the fact that the split when Brady left created the biggest issues. And as I've pointed out, obviously the ignore function exists and I took time this offseason adding the mute function. I'm at the point where I do feel if someone is just irritating, we're all adults, we should just scroll past or use the ability available to remove them (mute them) from that particular thread.

I'm not going to boot everyone who is frustrated because obviously there are going to be different perspectives, which is the entire point. However, as I also stated earlier in the thread, I'm not going to allow for people to drop in here, crap on the team, and then bow out, that's going to be something I'm really going to start cracking down on, which I'm sure may upset a few people, but "it is what it is". Like others have said, constructive criticism is fine as long as people at least provide an opinion that others can react to. It's essentially impossible to respond to, "they suck", "bill needs to go", etc. Especially when a lot of it typically starts in September and by midseason, the tenor is usually quite different.

But until Brady hangs it up, I expect a lot of the same to continue until the new group starts reaching a championship level. Hopefully, this season will at least be a step in the right direction.

Yeah the fanbase is divided and not just here. Look at a PFT Patriots story and it's usually the same Patriots fans posters who are very anti-Brady and others who are very anti-BB. Plenty of trolling on each side where some would mock the pro BB side when Brady would do well and not the Patriots and also vice versa.

I'd guess once either of them retires it will end there but it's too bad it happened this way. Brady never said anything bad about the organization and we know how BB feels about Tom.

Doubtful because we humans tend toward tribalism regardless - we will just pick new idols to rally around and throw stones at those "others" who don't think the same way we do.

I missed where you talked about a crack down, so I won't get into that beyond noting that we've already had way too much of that over the years. I will say, though, that "they suck"/"X needs to go" has been perfectly valid posting since at least 2006.

It's more the people who drop the one-liners in threads where things have been relatively normal. That's what I'm referring to.

Yes, never didn’t agree. I don’t think they win 13 games
Sorry I did not spell it alllllll out for you. Next time I make a statement, I will list all my points that back my claim so that there is no misunderstanding....ok?

Also, why arent you going at Ian for his claim of 13 wins. He is making a definitive statement that the team was going to have 13 wins. I just said the O "should" be great given that they weren't that bad last year and have some "notable" improvements.

Isnt Ian's statement worthy of your incredible ridicule and scorn?

Go get um tiger.

You’re a sensitive little guy aren’t you? I saw your post and disagreed with it. Sorry you didn’t back up your points and you immediately threw the discussion off the rails. Disagreeing is a part of life. Now that you’ve written out more of your point, I am happy to continue if you are up for it. You just let me know

Your stupidity about the pats playing weak teams while not seeming to grasp that other teams do as well got me thinking maybe you need some perspective.

Add to the fact that you cant give me the benefit of the doubt that perhaps there is more to a potentially great offense than a QB and TE made we wade into some stupidify debate about who meant what etc..

BB8 is right, you are a troll And a bad one.

I must disagree here. The role of a troll is to post things that are entirely divorced from reality. Thus, he is a tremendous troll, as he has yet to deviate from that objective even once.
