TOTAL ($44.8M)

RESTRUCTURES ($27M)
Judon, Henry, Smith, Mason, Bourne, Andrews, Wise, Mills

CUTS ($17.8M) I am suggesting NONE of these
$5M Godchaux
$5M Van Noy
$2.7M Anderson
$3.8M Guy
$1.3M Harry (really a trade for 7th)

There's no "thanks" emoji anymore, but thanks for these threads.

They'll restructure as they need, likely, and maybe extend a couple of players (Agholor/Godchaux/Henry?).

I hate the cuts, other than Anderson if he's done, and Harry needs to find a better home. Van Noy will be the LB veteran out there, as I don't expect HT back, or even Bentley. Godchaux isn't nearly as bad as some here constantly yammer, and that's not a lot of $$$ at all for a guy who played as many snaps as he did last year - and he wouldn't have played them if BB thought he sucked.

I'd love to see Anderson bounce back, but he might be done.

Yes, extensions are options for Agholor, Baily. and Wynn.

If we nab a good punter in the later rounds we could save 4m by cutting bailey. May be unlikely if he is back in 2019/2020 form, in which case i could see an extension, but I would at least expect some legit competition there through the draft.

No point keeping harry at this point imo, ive seen enough. If we can get anything at all great.

Anderson will either fill an area of major need or we save 2.7m by getting rid of him.

Wonder if Ziegler and MCDaniels might be interested in bringing Agholor back to the Raiders where he had a pretty good 2020 season? It would open up $10 m of cap space for the Pats. K. Wilkerson played one game when Agholor was out and caught two TDs with another hitting him in the hands. That’s probably better than Agholor would have done with those chances. Wilkerson or a day 2 WR draftee can fill that spot much more cheaply.

The Pats can afford to push money into future years with negotiations and cutting players. The 2023 cap is going to explode. The annual broadcasting revenue is going to go from $4.4 billion to $10 billion. And that is before Sunday Ticket which is currently at $1.5 billion and could be split into two with DirecTV getting the non-streaming rights at or around the $1.5 billion a year and the streaming rights going for that or twice that.

This is why you are seeing contracts like Josh Allen’s where his deal has him making over $40 million a year against the cap in 2023 and beyond. Teams are already expecting the cap to explode and have deals to reflect that. The Pats have not.

I was thinking that extending players you like may be better economics than trying to compete with all the teams that will be spending like drunken sailors in 2023.

Ideally I would like to convert judon’s salary to bonus and sign brown and karras with that money.

His entire 2021 & 2022 salaries were guaranteed and $6.5M of 2023 is also guaranteed. That's 63% of his $50M guaranteed. He's due $10M in cash in 2022 all fully guaranteed. Not sure how much more you can get out to pay both Karras and Brown.

Bailey struggled a bit in 2021 due to a right knee injury but otherwise IMO he is the best punter in the league.

Had no idea he was injured. If hes back to 2019/2020 form id wanna keep him around .

Cutting all of them would be great moves.

That money could go to a number 1 receiver or to fix the D line.
Does anybody think Wise is a long term solution?
I feel he is a liability against mobile QBs and the NFL is loaded with those.

No, he’s awful. Bringing him back was a horrible move. Insane actually.

There is a Thanks emoji. You have to click the little right arrow in the emoji bar to get to it.

Pushing Judon money forward could free up $6,643,333 of 2022 cap room.

Yea, that's not enough to sign both Brown and Karras, which was the point being made. Karras had a $3M cap in 2021. Brown's was $7.6M

Here is what I estimate the Patriots can save by changing Salary to Signing bonus and leaving the players with $1M salary
Judon - $6.66M
Henry - $4M
Jonnu Smith - $5.33M
Shaq Mason - $2.75M
Bourne - $1.25M
Andrews - $2M
Wise - $2M
Mills - $2.33M

They could lower the hits of Judon, Bourne, and Henry even more with Extensions.

They could lower the cap hit of Shaq Mason and Jonathan Jones with extensions.

In general terms, they can turn guaranteed money into a signing bonus and reduce the salary down to the vet minimum. In Judon's case, I believe that's $1.03M.

This is so routine that some teams explicitly put it in contracts that the player gives the team the ability to do this without the player's approval. [To be fair, as long as it's paid within 30 days or so, I can't imagine a situation why a player would turn it down.]

I'm not sure if any of them will be cut, but I have been hearing more and more recently that two potential cuts could be Mason(high salary hit) and Wynn...we would need to bring Karras and Brown back if that happens. It would also depend on where we intend to play Onwenu next year...is he a Tackle or Guard.
