And also take a long hard look at their so-called sources. Somewhere in this thread shooting the messengers til they're all gone was mentioned; I'd rather have one or 2 trusted, solid reporters than a gazillion of them whose goal is to grab clicks and ticks. I'm not saying SMY is necessarily one of these but I'd much prefer quality over quantity.
Posters on this board do far more research to back up their fries than do most of our media; my guess is that's because people here will call eachother out in a nano-second if you post garbage. Our media could use more of that, and good on Miguel for passing on correct info.
I don't want our media to disappear, I'd just like to see them step it up a bit.
Exactly.
All too many in the media have fallen into the same trap that a small but vocal segment of this board's membership has, equating the act of criticism with critical thinking. If you're not critical you're a blind homer mocked not only openly by fellow members but subtely by a superior thinking media. And any defense you mount against that allegation is further mocked. Thing is, criticize the critics here or in the Boston Sports media or call their agendas into question, and you will see wagons circle faster than the speed of light. You need look no farther than Tomase for a glaring example.
I understand that it's ego driven human nature to assume the defensive posture when challenged, but I can't accept that dismissive rational when we're talking about people being paid to inform and enlighten and REPORT. I understand that columnists are another whole issue, paid to stir the pot, but even in their case don't hide behind a title and smugly claim to be misunderstood and underappreciated when you or your hypercritical opinions are often being castigated for being openly agenda driven and/or perhaps by design born of utter ignorance of readily available facts. Like the IRS always says, ignorance is no excuse...
