Slow week topic: Does Ras IR's fragility cost another player a roster spot?

No he had Patrick Chung a 2nd round pick, who failed, and the SS we got from (KC? James Hasty???) who promptly was injured. Only the did he turn to Ihedigbo.
Wrong all wrong.

Jarrad Page was traded to the New England Patriots on September 4, 2010 from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jarrad Page was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles on August 3, 2011.

Bret Lockett was cut by the New England Patriots on August 21, 2011.

James Sanders was cut by the New England Patriots on August 29, 2011.

Brandon Meriweather was cut by the New England Patriots on September 3, 2011.

Jarrad Page was not on the New England Patriots roster during the 2011 NFL Season.

It's a pretty straightforward question (I'm not saying the answer is: just the question), I think, and I won't add too much to the background, in order to keep the table clear of any biases, so to speak. The only thing I will add is that there's also the issue of Dennard getting some type of suspension which you may/may not feel adds to the equation. Having said that.....

Have at it.

It is highly unlikely Dennard would be suspended, a DUI does not violate the personal conduct policy it violates the league substance abuse policy. If he was suspended it would have to be for the violating his probation and that is yet to be determined and likely won’t be until the offseason.

To answer your primary question I would keep Dowling; if we cut him his spot would almost have to go to a secondary player due to the limited depth, the player likely to be kept in his place would be Cole who I feel we could release and bring back at another point during the season (shadow roster), given this I see what Dowling looks like within the first month of the season and if Dowling continues to miss time or underperform I would move him to injured reserve and bring back Cole or a similar marginal player.

Could be, Thanks. Wasn't he from Maine, or New Hamshire?. There was another big Safety too.

I think it was Jarrad Page that you were thinking of AZ, not McGowan as I stated. Jarrad Page was the one who came from the KC Chiefs. My apologies.

It's not necessarily the DUI that many are concerned with. It's the violation of probation, which could also lead to missed time due to having his probation revoked and/or a different punishment such as additional time imposed by the judge alone--not even taking into acct the NFL.

Like I said, I think there's a grey area here but all reports are that the Patriots are definitely expecting some form of punishment from the NFL. I think they should just handle it themselves by sitting him for 1-2 games, which would likely satisfy the NFL so they wouldn't even get involved any further. We've seen this type of self-imposed sanctioning done before by other teams, and we may be able to get away with ONE simple game missed if it comes down to it. Of course everyone likely just wants to wait a bit and see how it plays out further.

We'll know more about his VOP case as it moves further, since he's already been arraigned on that specific charge and is due back in Nebraska court within the next week or so.

(per CBS Boston)

"Dennard currently projects to start at cornerback for the Patriots, though the report said that the team is expecting him to be suspended by the league."
