It was a smart move by Bill to keep Tommy Kelly; now he might be able to reach his playing-time incentives…………………………………………………………oh wait………………………………………………………..

The casualties of getting younger on defense....

yeah...this is really terrible...fire BB and exhume the corpse of George Allen to show us the way to REALLY do it.

Casey Walker off the Carolina PS. Seems like a NT type going off height/weight but those numbers don't mean anything half the time.

Probably just an extended tryout.

It would be irrelevant who they signed if Easley showed a shred of his college explosion. Is anybody slightly concerned bout Easley. I know he missed most of training camp and didn't play in any preseason games but he is going into game4 now. But its not like he just got off the sofa, he has been doing full workouts since camp. I expect technique to be very rusty but he isn't showing any raw explosion or power and its been over a year since the injury. His last acl tear he was back within a year and shredding OLines. Some acl's take longer but the concern is some never return 100% and 2 acl injuries is really pressing it. I have as high as hopes for Easley as I do Kenbrell Thompkins whom I researched evo and other modern tech workouts for. I have not got over missing out on geno Atkins who is probably my favorite prospect ever and hoped Easley could be our elite disruptive penetrator. I get it he should be rusty but I would feel better if I started seeing him explode off the snap and rock blockers and show some inkling of raw talent. The best trainer I ever knew is conducting experiments nationwide on HGH therapy combined with new kinds of underwater insimulation to get torn ACLs better than new with excellent results so far. So I'm optimistic he will improve and its just taking longer

I heard an interesting discussion by Bill Polian on Sirius radio the other night, but he was talking about some other team (can't remember and it doesn't matter). He pointed out that the team had built its D-line around big power rushers, which puts them at a disadvantage against teams that go to a spread offense where you need speed rushers who can get to the QB quicker.

That triggered a light bulb moment for me regarding the Pats defensive line. It seems that Belichick has seen the offensive trends in the NFL and decided that his "power oriented" front seven packages were no longer ideal. I think he's made the conscious decision to replace older bigger slower players with younger faster smaller players. I suspect that Tommy Kelly was very old and very slow after his ACL repair.

Designation to return means they think there's a good chance they'll put him back on the roster, for whatever combination of injury details, skills, and team needs brings them to that conclusion. Makes sense to me, even if the guy has seemed to have a variety of injuries ...

BB wanted to cut Kelly's salary. He got that done with playing incentives. He then set up a rotation system which, at least in Kelly's mind, was going to prevent Kelly from reaching his incentives.

No need to overthink this.

Actually, it would be very relevant. The injured players is a NT, run stopper type and the only other one we have is wilfork, who is also versatile, but huge. Wilfork will need to either be replaced (very expensive) or replaced by two or more role players who will play along with easley and Chris Jones, or that type of penetrating tackle.

If we only have Easley and that type of tackle, we will get gouged up the middle and will have to change our whole defense to compensate for that.

Easley is coming off a knee operation. He will likely get back more explosion next year.

There's no doubt they are going in that direction, however the still need some stout lineman for situations. They'll need more when Wilfork retires, or becomes a part timer, but obviously Kelly isn't going to be in that equation.

Walker seems to be a backup run-stuffer, a reasonable choice for our 5th DT.
