If Onwenu is third best in their plans at OG, they need to fire whoever thinks that on the spot. You do what you can to resign MO. If he gets a massive offer elsewhere, so be it. Your evaluation is horrid. It completely ignores reality and puts a ridiculous amount of weight on a 4th and 5th round pick. There is no way he's "third in line" in their plans. That shows a complete lack of understanding of the team dynamics on your part.

There are 2 starting guard positions. That means the team needs a minimum of 2 additional reserves. Not to mention a player or two to put on the PS. Jake Andrews was brought in to learn the center position and be an emergency guy for the guard position. He wasn't drafted to take over at guard.

Onwenu is the starting RG. You thinking that he's going back to the bench because they added Andrews, Sow and Mafi is incomprehensible.

I'm not under the impression that either of those three will be available to sign in free agency. I can easily see Tee Higgins being slapped with the Franchise tag. Aiyuk is under contract through 2024. As is Jerry Jeudy. The Bengals are projected to have more than 80 million (probably be closeer to 60M after this year's signings). That is plenty of space to keep Higgins. Especially since Boyd will be a UFA and 30.

You're thinking that the Pats, who will likely have more than 40 people under contract with over 100M in cap space going into the next free agency won't be able to sign Onwenu AND a WR doesn't make sense. It also speaks volumes about what you know or don't know about the salary cap.

So, no. I don't agree with your assertion that the Pats wouldn't be able to sign an ELITE WR if they signed Onwenu to a long term Top 3 G deal.

We had the LT position solidified for over 15 years with Matt Light, then Nate Solder... now its a big question mark and needs to be addressed long term as a top priority

It does seem strange to use all that draft capital on interior lineman when we have a pretty solid line-up of Andrews/Onwenu/Strange.

That said, perhaps they view one (or more) of their recent draft picks as being better fits at Tackle. In which case they were really just drafting an eventual Andrews replacement, a back-up IOL, and a developmental Tackle.

I do understand salary cap, but it's not difficult to determine the direction of a team when it makes a relatively lesser important starting position (tackle is definitely more - right), a priority two drafts in a row. Even if I did not understand a thing about cap, anyone should see this.

If Onwenu has a great year, he will command top guard money. They didn't even pay Thuney. His best chance is to have to come back crawling, which I agree, he won't have to.

Like I said a lot can happen in a year, so nobody knows, but I think the evidence is that they intend to rebuild an offensive line with cheaper talent. They'll have to pay at QB soon too.

I agree that it needs to be addressed "long term". The issue is the prospects that have been available and whether or not the team feels they are long term solutions.

I stated last year after Strange was drafted that I felt the Pats could move him to LT long term because his size was nearly identical to Matt Light but Strange was more athletic. I don't know if that's what the Pats will do or if they'll commit to Sidy Sow being the LT.

What I do know is that , as of right now, there are not any "ELITE" OTs that stand to be UFAs after the 2023 season.
The likelihood of a team trading that sort of player outside of draft day 2024 is nil.

The claim that they "didn't pay Thuney" is false. They franchised Thuney. They told him they'd match whatever offer he got. He chose to not allow the Pats to match.

You claim to "understand the cap" but then post things that make no sense in regards to the cap. Like you're doing now with your claims that they won't be able to pay Onwenu if they pay a WR.

The WRs you mentioned have teammates that have been paid already. Deebo Samuel got a massive deal that was essentially a 3 yr extension with 2 additional void years. The Bengals are going to have to pay Burrow and Chase after the 2024 season. The Bengals have a projected 82M for 2023 and a projected 220M for 2024. That's MORE than enough to pay Higgins, Burrow, and Chase. And still pay another 40 players each year..

What you claim to be "evidence" is pure ridiculous speculation on your part and ignores 2 decades of actual player moves by this team. Moves that I've pointed out as actual facts.

Andrews is getting old. So is Ferentz (who many people want gone). One of the other back-up IOL is Bill Murray. So, why is it "strange" to get a back-up center to groom as a replacement starter, and two IOL to replace Ferentz and Murray?

Because our Interior OL is seemingly in good shape with Onwenu/Andrews/Strange but our OTs may as well been turnstiles last year. They made a few FA signings that don’t appear to be big upgrades. Even Brown is a question mark after last year….

So, strange that they prioritized and drafted 3 players at an area of relative strength, and no players at an area that seemingly needed an upgrade.

I don’t disagree that we need to replace Andrews/Murray/Ferentz. But, like many, thought Tackle was a top “need”.

What speculation? Do you think 4th round draft choices were meant to replace the likes of Ferentz and Murray? They're hoping they hit with one or two to rebuild the interior line. That's what 2 decades of players moves by this team says about that.

Thing is, it's hard to draft for immediate need in the 4th round and beyond. At that point, the odds of a player working out are probably less than 50/50, and even less that they step in immediately year one. So once you get to that territory, you're drafting as much (if not more) for 2024 as you are for 2023. And yes, OT is going to be a need then too, but if your board has the remaining interior OL rated higher than the remaining OT, and both are needs for 2024, that's likely the direction you're going to go. Year 1 need is really only a major factor in the top 50-60 picks each year, realistically.
