DRAFT Sidy Sow - Round 4 - 117th overall

And what position is that?
The Bolden position.

It's a joke you clod. It followed and was in response to a similar humorous vein someone else tapped into. This is like that scene in "Big" where grown men are trying to weaponize the innocent child's declaration "I don't get it." But I'm pretty sure some lady sleeps with Tom Hanks who is emotionally a 12-year old in that movie, so there are much more problematic things than that -- or you -- in the world.

As it happens I used to also say we're getting thin at the Brandin/Brandon/Branden position when we were down to two of them.

Try to keep up.

Yep.

All that money given to a short Right ****ing Guard should've been ear-marked for Thuney, the CLEARLY Superior talent at a more critical position along the OL.

Notgoat's done his buddy Chumley a couple of other favors for the Queefs' OL too... Packers did a Big one as well.

What are you yammering about now? The Pats did with Thuney what they'd done with other Highly valued players such as Hightower and McCourty. The Pats let him find what the market was and offered to match it. Thuney CHOSE KC.

The money to Mason, who was just as good as Thuney at the time, had no bearing on signing Thuney to an extension. And if you're implying that picking up the 5th year option on Wynn had anything to do with it, you really don't understand the salary cap at all.

Asking Capt to keep up is liking asking a Drew Barrymore's character from 50 First Dates to remember more than 24 hours. The difference being that Capt's issues are self-induced where as Barrymore's character was in a tragic accident.

So now you want to give "T-Rex arms" Thuney a lot of money after dogging the drafting of him back in 2016? I guess this you admitting you were very much wrong?
That’s Captain Stoned and every negative nancy’s M/O. All the players on every other team is great, unless they join the Patriots in free agency… at which point they suck.

Every Patriot player sucks, unless some good team like KC signs them away in free agency… at which point they’re great and Bill screwed up.

Can we go back and find out what Capt thought about the Onwenu draft pick? Let me guess… it sucked.

Why do you keep disparaging our resident curmudgeonly genius?

Pretty typical. He called him a “FECKIN FAT FECK”

What if Captain was more right then wrong ?

If anyone complains about R3 to R7 of any draft, they will be more right than wrong. Stats say over 50% for those rounds combined bust. So yes, the Captain is more right than wrong because he likes Gonzalez and White from R1 and R2..

The question is did the Pats pick more than 3 starters in the 2023 draft? If yes, then the Captain is wrong.

Generally the Cap'n is silent when he likes a BB pick. Did he actually say he approved of the first two picks?

Who let him start posting again???
Hahhaahhahahaa.
All in fun

Yes he did. In his redraft he kept Gonzalez and White.

Cap'n is right in his assessments more than anyone else on this board. He tells it like it is

*ROFLMAO* Not even close. Cap is wrong 99% of the time in his assessments. YOU saying otherwise is laughable and a complete fabrication

Based on…?

You asked what I based my statement that the team would not pay Onwenu when his time came, and I answered that in 2021 they team left him on the bench over Mason and Karras. Plus they drafted 3 interior lineman.

Mason was traded after the season and Karras signed $18 million over 3 years.

How much do you think Onwenu will command?

No doubt Big Mike deserves a nice raise as one of the very, Very few players here to out-perform his draft status, but I wouldn't offer him a contract similar in today's cap dollars to what Shack Mason was given either. Right Guard is the least difficult position along the OL to find a suitable replacement; and I'm sure recent picks such as Chasin' 'Hinds & Fat Tony will be given Looong looks there between now and Opening Day... I didn't mention Double-S here because I'll wait to see if their plans for him are more on the Left side somewhere...

There are numerous problems with your statement.

- Judging how a player will be paid based on something that happened during his 2nd season speaks volumes about your understanding of how people get pay raises.
- They drafted 3 IOL because 1 of the IOL on the team is 33, one is a converted DE who hasn't shown much of anything, and 1 spent most of the season injured.
- Preparing for a player to hit free agency is something that the Patriots have tried to do pretty regularly.

In regards to after the 2021 season:
- Mason signed his contract extension in August of 2018. He played on it for 3 seasons before he was traded to Tampa.
- They let Karras walk after the 2019 season because they had decided to tag Thuney. They let Karras go after 2021 because they KNEW they had Onwenu ready to step in at RG. Also, Karras wanted to start and that wasn't happening in N.E. w/o an injury.

Your points don't seem to take into consideration the changing Salary Cap landscape due to the new TV contracts that are kicking in.

Things to think about.
- No one saw the Shaw Mason extension coming. Many were surprised by it. The usual suspects on here thought it was bad business.
- We have no idea if the Pats have reached out to Onwenu about an extension. We also have no idea whether or not he's open to signing one.
- Onwenu is going to get a decent bump thanks to the performanced based pay clause the NFL has. It won't be millions, but it will be nice.
- The Pats paid out for Mankins. The Pats attempted to pay out for Thuney. The Pats have a history of paying out to top flight O-linemen.

They drafted a guard in the first round last year and one in the 4th this year. Onwenu is at best third in line.

Isn't that consistent with how they viewed him the second year?

I like the guy, and don't quite understand why they seem not to, but these last two drafts don't seem like they're building the OL around him.

They still need tackles, and don't appear interested in using Onwenu there. That will cost money.

I don't see Onwenu staying unless it's backup type pay or one of the other guys gets hurt or falters.

Incorrect. They drafted a OG/OT last year in the 1st round. I also pointed out that them drafting 2 OGs this year has no direct bearing on Onwenu. They were drafted specifically to address the depth issues at IOL.

HUH? How they viewed him in the 2nd year doesn't mean anything now.
This idea that you have that the Patriots don't like Onwenu when they purposely shipped out Mason to allow Onwenu a starting job makes zero sense.

They don't want to use Onwenu at Tackle because he's not that good there. It's arguably his worst position when you actually look at how he performed.

Why would Onwenu, who is a top 3 Guard in the NFL, stay for Back-up pay? Again, you're conclusions aren't making any sense at all.

What do you mean that Onwenu is "at best", third in line? For what? An Extension? They guy is, quite literally, the best player that will be a UFA next year from the Pats roster. Yes, he's better than Dugger.

He's third in line in their plans at OG. Again, I'm not arguing Onwenu's ability. Just evaluating the chance he stays.

They spent a first, two fourths, and a fifth on interior lineman in the last two drafts.
