Yes, but he had Newton playing with the ones and didn't play Jones until they pulled most of the ones. That action alone would normally tell you that Newton is the clear starter opening day.

Bill knows Josh has two weeks to ramp up Mac, not one. I suspect Jones was even better than Cam during the practice time/meetings we didn’t see.

Most people had Newton making the team and starting the season as the QB1. So I don't see any real reason to crow over Shank being one of them.
