Why is it an embarrassment there is currently one black coach? Are you embarrassed that there are only 30% white players in the NFL while there are 70% black players? No you are not embarrassed. Me neither.Who cares? They pick the best players. Why concern ourself with racial bean counting? It is getting very old and tiresome. The Jets had a black coach too not long ago., the Bengals, the Lions and Dolphins. There were maybe three or four at one time. Coaches come and go. Blacks are supposed to be 13% of the population so 4 black coaches among 32 teams would reflect the general population but really the number would be less as the percentage of black males at coaching age from that 13% is maybe one or two black coaches. Maybe they just hire the best coaches from who is available just as they do players and let the racial chips fall as they may.
Awful take. Of course there is reverse descrimimination too. You cant apply the general population demographics to the NFL to predict the number of qualified applicants. The gap is too wide. A qualified player white or black player is easier to pick.

Sorry to interrupt the back and forth, but I had a tangent question if anyone knows.... I've searched for it but couldn't find anything:

Did Belichick give a good recommendation to Ross on Flores' behalf before he was hired by the dolphins? I would think he did, but there have been exceptions (Mangini comes to mind).

It's dead. The moment Flores released Bill's texts it was dead.
You're probably right. We'll see in a few years what they want to say he felt like when he read it or something. Maybe ESPN will do a "Bill an Flo" special like "The Two Bills" and they'll sit next to each other and say "No, I never really felt anything like that" and we'll all believe we now have insight into their innermost selves. Feh. For the next couple years, they probably have possibly at-odds legal positions and BB has to watch out for that. Some small chance that's not the end of it but who knows. Sure isn't good for a friendship.

Leftwich only interviewed for the Jags job? News to me.

The article? This is the NFL. Irsay stopped by police with controlled substances. Kraft caught up in a sex sting. Jerruh caught with young women. WFT sex scandal. Dozens and dozens of NFL players caught up in all sorts of domestic violence incidents, etc , etc, etc. But Bienemy did this and that over 20 years ago, so he can't get The Job.
He still shouldn't have rapped about it.

There is plenty of information on this, look it up if you are interested. I suspect you are not.

You are just interested in supporting your own beliefs and are immune to information that counters it.
Im applying the same standard you do. It seems the only thing you bean counters see is numbers without any mitigating factors. You see a disparity in numbers--- automatically you assume it is racism. So using your standard it must be racism against 30% white players while there are 70% black players. This needs to be addressed and corrected.

There's one black head coach because multiple other black head coaches were fired this year.
And also because teams are not serious about interviewing new ones. It can't be proved that goes on but over enough time and enough no hires it can be assumed. The gap is just too wide. I'd like to see the numbers of actual black prospects vs the required Rooney rule. I'm guessing teams pretty much stick to the rule to be compliant leaving other qualified prospects unconsidered.

Here it is...no black person is qualified to be on the Supreme court...but we got the devils triangle guy who likes beer and a women who was put on the bench because of her position on abortion...sigh.
Nobody said no black person is qualified to be on the Supreme Court, in fact Clarence Thomas already is.
But excluding candidates based upon skin color and gender is unabashedly wrong.

Clarence Thomas

The geriatric despot has already stated that the next SCJOTUS will be African American. Whites need not apply.
Thread and is about Flores not your warped political views. GTFOH

No, you're just spinning your pathetic Andy Johnson web.

Question was asked and answered. You understood the answer but choose to continue down an endless path of irrelevance.

Not playing. Find someone else to con.
No it wasn’t at all.

Here it is again.

If you are hiring the best man for the job, lawsuits, history months and symbolism are irrelevant.

Are you telling me that you believe black candidates should get favoritism during February and because someone filed a lawsuit?
Basing decisions on race is racist.

If you have a pool of 70 percent vs 30 percent all looking to get a job and the 30 percent wind up with them most of the time then its pretty obvious. Now when it comes to picking out players, the best players are easier to pick out because the measurables are much more apparent

You're contradicting yourself. Not surprising though.
I am not contradicting myself at all.
The determination of who is best qualified is in the hands of the person making the decision.
There are numerous criteria that at some level contribute to that decision including:
-Experience and track record
-knowledge and intelligence
-ability to communicate vision
-leadership skills
-schematic knowledge
-ability to bring in assistants
-ability to evaluate players
-commitment
-goals
-plan you formulate for the path to success for the franchise
-fit with the make up of the roster
-fit with the stage of development of the team
-salary demands
-ability to work with management
Just to name a few

There is no one most qualified in every way. So the idea that you can determine who is most qualified for a particular job is beyond ridiculous.

And it's almost always the white guys that are determined to be the most qualified.

There is no such thing as reverse discrimination. Discrimination is discrimination.

You would apply the demographics of the coaching pool which is significantly more similar to the general
Population than the player population.
I’m not sure what easier to pick means, but all players don’t become football coaches and most football coaches didn’t play in the nfl.

And it's almost always the white guys that are determined to be the most qualified.
Well they are the vast majority of the candidates.
It’s mostly white guys that are determined to be the best hire for most jobs, because there are more white people.

That isn’t the pool.

You think that it’s easier to pick a player than a coach? Seriously? Many high draft picks flame out in a short period of time. Most coaches have long careers.

Not going with a blind brick wall.

Not going with a blind brick wall.
Perhaps you see a brick wall because your mind is closed.
The sure sign of a lack of insight is believing an opposing view couldn’t possibly be right.
