Schefter: Pats expected to add incentives to Brady's deal

This is the type of situation where the proposed Facepalm rating would come into play! (being for Volin, of course, not you....)
Maybe we could just have a Volin rating.

Even experts are scratching their head a bit about how exactly to get those incentives to be NLTBE. Am really curious about what BB and Caserio came up with.

@Miguel woild be the best source to delineate the nltbe options that could be used.

Can they structure it in a way to lower the cap hit?

I am slightly overdue for my cap refresher course - however my recollection is that lowering a cap hit is usually achieved by signing an extension and turning salary into bonus which can have its cap allocated over different years. Harder to do with Brady, because how do you tack on years into an extension (over which to allocate a bonus) given his age?

This year most probably. I guess it will not be easy to design NLTBE incentives for Brady given his last season that are still "straighforward to reach".

I am hoping the incentives are purely for League & SB MVP and the league rules them LTBE, then we can sit back and watch the trolls explode...

Volin stirring **** again..

I know I'm stating the obvious here, but this guy's a flipping idiot. For crissakes, it wasn't long ago he wrote that he thought Bob Kraft was the owner and CEO of Kraft Foods. Honestly, I wonder about his cognitive skills or, more precisely, his lack of them. What a jackass.

I made the mistake of having my TV on Comcast and of course Fudger
and Azz are all upset over this. AZZ "blames" Brady for the no deal contract because he owed Kraft for trading Garapollo for him. Fudger is all, "Brady got short changed for not committing past next year". Brady hosed the Pats so he's getting "nothing". Honest to God I can't stand those guys. I accidentally see a couple of minutes of them once every couple months and it's the same gddam show every time.

This is where we need that GFY button and then we could permanently assign said button to Felger, Mazz & Volin to name a few.

Spazz is still *****ing about Dombrowski draining the Sox farm system.

It quite possibly be the worst manufactured argument and something to ***** about every created.

Turning $10 million of salary into a signing bonus and adding $5 million of LTBE incentives would essentially function the same as adding $5 million of NLTBE incentives. That salary/bonus conversion is what was missing in the early reporting of Julio Jones’ restructured contract a few weeks ago, so it might be here too.

I cracked the case - the incentive is to play at least 10 snaps at middle linebacker this season. Not likely technically since he’s never played the position in 20 years. Now we know why they played the offense on D/defense on O last week... Brady gonna record a few MLB snaps in garbage time lol

Would have been nice to see an extension...
Why?
At this stage of Brady's career the team needs to be in play-it-by-ear mode. Definitely not "tie up a lot of $ in an extension and have the guarantees accelerate into the then-current year if he decides to hang it up" time.

Yeah, he’s already under contract for two more seasons, so you’d think that there would be a mutual understanding that they’ll revisit the idea if/when the time comes.

Either way, they’d either extend him another year or he’d retire. It’s not like he’s hitting the open market come 2020 when the deal is up, and we’re left looking at some type of comp pick. That is highly unlikely to happen. Either he’d agree to another year or he’d retire.

I think they’re in a similar position with Rob in terms of wanting to reassess after the next two years. With him, an argument could be made to tack on another year or two if his injury situation and talk of retirement are kept at bay and he has another productive season in 2018, but for the time being, they should be able to make both players happy by offering them a chance at earning a raise this year.

I think you are underestimating the money he will want for what might be his last chance for a really big cash day. I dont think the two situations are similar beyond the fact that money is involved.
