Rolando McClain released?

Is McClain an upgrade over Mark Rivera? I would have to say yes.

I'm sure BB scouted him coming out of school. Regardless how ugly things got in Oakland, if BB had a good grade on him then, I think he will disregard anything that happened while playing for a dubious franchise like Oakland. Passionate football players frequently explode when they play for a team that won't match their passion. Belichick has tried to redeem quite a few Raiders in the past. This could be another.

But a word of caution, in case anyone is tempted to get too excited: for every Randy Moss and Corey Dillon, we've had our Jonathan Sullivan and Doug Gabriel. Not every redemption is successful. But, if the cost is low, it's worth looking under as many rocks as possible.

In Jullivan's case though, I don't think many people had any realistic hopes that he would rebound.

He was fat, lazy, overpaid, and would be set for life if he made no effort at all. He was ruined by going to a bad situation in New Orleans with access to delicious, fattening foods.
