I hope to wake up to a done deal. This guy can replace Spike's attitude, big hitting and toughness while offering a more useable skill-set at SS/LB. He could be a huge upgrade from Steve Gregory.

It's amazing how these scumbag agents need to make this all about THEM. First it was Revis' guy and now this guy who needs to play "adult hockey" rather than serve his client. Its a perversion of the relationship. The agent is essentially telling us that "its not a deal until I say it is. I hope he doesn't screw this up, but the Pats will walk away if tries to use Pats to squeeze more money from another team. Especially a guy who can't be bothered to miss a hockey game rather than work with his client.

Yeah, right.

"All I want to do is play hockey right now."

That's the guy I'd want representing me at the most important 72 hr time period of the entire year, and making hundreds of thousands to boot--possibly more.

With my luck, that'd be my agent, right there.

It reminds me a bit of the end of the 2006 season, losing to Manning in the AFCCG, then seeing Belichick come out with guns blazing in the FA/draft period the next spring.

I hope this stuff is true, and we're getting some decent guys to fill some of these weaknesses. Browner would be a nice addition, I'd think.

Versatile too--that's huge. Make it happen, Bill.

This signing would be huge for us because I think the upgrade from Gregory -> Browner is more significant than the upgrade of Talib -> Revis.

Belichick has once again gone after the real problems and addressed them. NOT the pseudo-problems that the air head Mediots and their parroting fans spew as conventional wisdom.

The Pats Defense arrived at the beginning of the 2012 season,after 4 years of rebuilding. Only to be partially destroyed in a nightmare of IR injuries to starters. Despite playing with out five regulars among the starting 11, the Pats found and discovered adequate patches amongst the unknowns and scrap heaps. Guys like Silver Siliga, Chris Jones, Joe Vellano, Andre Carter, Buchanan, Kline, KT Thompkins, Lagarette Blount, Andy Collie, and Hoomanawanui,

Now he gets all the discoveries back for 2014 along with with a years worth of experience. along with Vince Wilfork, Rob Gronkowski, Tommy Kelly, Danny Amendola, etc. Now he adds an upgrade to his best CB, and a solution to his persistent SS issue.

The beauty about Browner is that he is a "two-fer" or a "three-fer". At 6'4" 220, he is a big CB. The book on him is that he has CB coverage skills, hits like a truck, plays ST, but is a tad slow for a CB.

But that is an ideal prescription for a TE covering, unusually fast, SS. So in one player the Pats get a big cover CB for the Megatrons, no worse than the 5th CB, a backup big CB for Revis, and a starting SS.

Despite the constant hot air about needing a pass rush, nobody seems to register that the sack numbers/season are now at a 30 year high. The pass rush as is, is F_I_N_E.

Now Bill Belichick can turn his attention to the Real Glaring problem. That is keeping Tom Brady upright.

No QB can take 40 sacks /year for long. He WILL end up on IR, unless corrected. The most important job Bill has is to add some quality to the interior Offensive line.

This an urgent task made more so by the retirement of Coach Scarnecchia. His ability to wring good play out of marginal talent is now gone. So to guarantee the solution we need an injection of talent. The 2014 draft is a great year to do so. Offensive line talent is very deep. I'd draft one or even two in the first picks. Then I'd go for another "two-fer" a hardnose, BIG "X" WR, who can also play H-Back like APerp did. This draft has several of those too.

Wendell is a multi-skilled BACKUP...not a starter. Opposing D tackles ate our lunch at the end. THAT needs to be stopped.

If this happens I think this could potentially be the best defensive backfield we've had since the days of Lippett, Marion, Clayborn and some other guy I can't remember.

I know, I know. Harrison, Law, Poole and Wilson were great in 2003 and the next year was solid too since Gay was surprisingly good.

But this backfield could be as good or even better and with better depth. Arrington and Ryan are better than our 5th and 6th options from those years unless you're a big Earthwind Moreland fan.

I think we can expect to see at least one/two draft picks as well for the OL position.

I initially thought they could double up at the interior, but now I'm wondering if they'll split it one each--interior + tackle?

I wonder if Connelly could slide over to C and be effective with a better RG next to him? Worst case scenario, of course.

In a weird way, I think Scanecchia's retirement kinda forces Belichick's hand here. I think interior OL talent used to be viewed as something of a luxury, since it was known that Scar could coach up JAGs to play... well, servicably. It's not ideal, but it was good enough that the Pats were investing their limited draft/cap assets elsewhere. With Scar gone, I think it's a foregone conclusion that C and RG have to be addressed in a significant way. I think the Pats sign Shelley Smith, and then I think they make a serious run at one of the big three FA centers.
