Report: Patriots are "heavily scouting" top QBs in the draft

Supposedly, they're heavily scouting Lawrence as a point of reference. His workout was first, so when they check out the other QBs, they have a comparison for all the metrics they're evaluating.
Belichick has always had a penchant for picking up high picks when they are discarded by teams a few years later, and I think thats another reason he personally scouts players who he knows are out of reach come draft day. And then there’s always Vince Wilfork, who was thought to be a top five pick for two years prior to his draft. He then fell in the weeks leading up to the draft and fell right into their lap.

That too. There are a lot of reasons to collect scouting data on who you suspect might be a future star, even if there's no realistic path to them joining your team.
