Player Signing Report: Patriots Acquire DeVante Parker from Dolphins

No one makes Harry irrelevant. He does a good job of that all by himself

Parker
Meyers
Bourne

I say Agholor as it's based on salary and offense fit.
Yep, I realized that as soon as I posted it. I think Harry is gone, period, we will see what happen with Agholor.?

Yea MIA looks pretty solid in 2023 draft w/ Parker trade.

They still have Chris Grier drafting. He has wasted a lot of high picks. Waddle was a great pick, but it was a no brainer selection.

I don't think this automatically means Agholor is out. Agholor can also play slot AND Parker comes with considerable injury risk. He has value here but I understand the gripe with his price considering his production.

I like the trade and view it as us getting what we thought we were getting with Nkeal Harry which basically means Harry is probabbly gone. I also think it gives us some flexibility in the draft where we can take a risk on a receiver in the draft (Williams? Metchie? Pickens? Thornton?).

If he can return to anywhere near his 2019 form, Parker is an absolute steal. He immediately makes the entire corp better since everyone on the roster moves down a peg to make room for Parker as the #1 WR. Parker’s addition, at least in theory, should make Agholor, Bourne, and Meyers better because Parker will now consistently draw the #1 CB. That will allow the other guys get separation.

I hope Parker is up here on Monday working with Jones to get some continuity with each other.

Heehee. I still think he’s fun.

To watch fall down a flight of metal stairs maybe
I mean this in the very best of ways, have you considered getting out a little more?

This article shares some of my own feelings. Parker will help but the Pats still need a number 1.

The Patriots have passing game problems and Parker is only part of the solution

The Patriots still don’t have a true WR1 after the Parker trade. That’s just not what New England should expect from him. He only put up that kind of production once. He isn’t a burner (posting a 4.46-second 40-yard dash back in 2015 at the NFL combine). He’s a possession receiver, who should be a big help to quarterback Mac Jones. But Parker isn’t that matchup nightmare that the Patriots seem to need to truly threaten defenses. He is merely an upgrade in a mediocre position group.

That’s why I wouldn’t rule out the Patriots adding another receiver during the 2022 NFL draft. My favorites include buy-low candidates like Alabama receivers Jameson Williams (a likely first-rounder) and John Metchie (a likely second-rounder). Both had torn ACLs, which will hurt their draft stock. Both are truly impressive talents that can make a big impact at the NFL level.

The Patriots have rarely had a burner as their #1 WR. It isn’t that type of offense. With Moss they did, but Moss was an elite WR. Other than Moss, the only other time they had a burner as a #1 was Cooks.

The Pats have typically had more of a possession WR type as their #1 WR from Troy Brown to Edelman.

I’m worried about the eagles drafting Williams with 3 picks in the top 20…right before NE.
I wouldn’t bet on them making all of those picks. If they can get a deal to acquire a 2023 1 while moving back into late 1 early 2 territory theyll do it.

Bingo. I think Folks mix up WR1 and the WR-X. WR1 is the guy getting the most looks and volume. Alot of times in the NFL that IS the WRX but for us especially lately it's been the slot wr/TE.

Reaction: No ****ing way!!!

Second Reaction: Why didn’t any team want him with a two year affordable contract for what amounts to very little draft comp?

^ Pretty much this. The Pats aren't giving up much compared to the cost certainty they're getting at a position of need. He came back from injury for the last 5 games of the season and didn't play less than 70+ % of the Fins offensive snaps in any of them so it's hard to imagine that was a problem. Bit of a head scratcher but I too am wondering if there's something the Pats don't know here or something they know that others don't

I want someone who can separate and give Mac some easier completions. Could be a down the field threat or a someone like Edelman or Branch. We don't have one on the roster right now.

You don’t have to be a burner to get separation. And Parker can get separation. He has quickness even if he doesn’t have blazing speed. And with other receivers drawing lesser coverage because of Parker, they will be more likely to get separation.

Parker doesn't get much separation. He's a big body perimeter WR who uses his body well to make contested catches. He's basically what we wanted Harry to be. I never said you had to be a burner to get separation. All I said is Mac needs a WR who can separate better then the ones we have to give him some easier completions.

Helps a lot in improving the team. Parker's a solid WR2.

The pats now have TWO WRs signed for 2-23, Parker and Bourne. So I don't think this means they won't be drafting a WR this year. For all we know, next year's team might have Parker, Bourne, Williams and OBJ...that wouldn't suck.

As for moving Agholor, if they can get something worthwhile in a trade, could happen. But they could also extend him to lower the cap and keep him around in 2023.

Are some really upset we didn’t get a WR1 for what essentially is a 4th round value?

The real question is will he wear #11?

The same thing you based your theory on below. Pulled it out of my *** just like you.

Well, since I didn't do that, and instead based my theory on the reality that most QBs don't enter the NFL as finished products, I'll have to ask again. What are you basing your theory on?

I think P

I think the Pats need a X-WR now and I think Calvin Austin III or Tyquan Thornton fits that Bill. They are both very fast and would compliment Parker and Bourne. That said I think both C Austin III and T Thornton could be added late Second or early Third. We could use a little more Speed on the outsides I don't think Agholor is that guy.

Isn’t Parker the ideal X receiver?

Love your selections any one of those prospects would be a #2 behind Parker immediately with #1 potential down the road. Pickens is my personal fav in this Draft class I really really like him.
