Believe what you want, it's a free country and I am sure there are people here that believe that all Kraft's assertions of support for Goodell are part of a secret behind the scenes strategy that result in a just result for the Pats. Let me just say that anything Kraft has done either openly or behind the scenes has had zero positive effect on the reputation of the Pats. This is not assumption this is fact. If you don't believe me, just read Reiss's column or live like I do outside New England. Frankly, I don't really care how profitable the NFL or Pats are and how much Kraft is responsible for that. What I respect is an owner that supports without prodding and hesitation the employees that are responsible for the on field success are more important than than the POS commissioner or his financial partners. Maybe then he would realize who the schmuck really is.

Amen to that brother! A manager succeeds in the right way only by picking a good staff, a staff that faithfully produces, and returns that loyalty to his/her staff by backing them up just as faithfully. This is, essentially, in the corporate world, the question of productivity versus stock price. While more financial successful may or even will be gained by putting stock price first, at its heart it's a Faustian deal.

On the general discussion of "Deflategate": Given the ridiculous misproportion of the whole situation from day 1, given that it is approaching absurd in the length of time taken to crack this extremely intricate, 'who killed Kennedy' case, chances are tangibly good that the final stage of this will play out in a way similar to Taylor being dragged in front of the Minister of Science(who is also the Chief Defender of the Faith) to explain the truth of the science, only to have his ass kicked for the truth speaking contrary to the faith.

If proportion meant anything whatsoever, given how damn stupid the whole thing became, I think Wells' report should be read with a canned laugh track playing in the background, with it saying "deflategate was due to Colonel Mustard using the candlestick from the library", then "we are recommending the NFL fine Mark Brunell for being the world's most genuine dipsh!+".

C'mon...LOOK at the lineup Kraft is facing. The Pats are already tried ,convicted, found guilty and only await execution. There was NEVER any kind of unbiased investigation of "deflated balls". THESE GUYS set the whole thing in motion at some board meeting on Park Avenue as soon as the playoffs started and informed Kensil he would be walking point...and this is where we are today, awaiting a "decision" that is ludicrous on its face, sitting here in a room plastered with kangaroo wall paper.

As someone else mentioned, he was still hired by Goodell and the NFL, so it's quite possible they have had some type of rough estimate target date in mind the entire time.

I don't think the NFL wanted this to overshadow the SB, free agency period, or owner's meetings, so it kind of narrows the window between last week (owner's meetings), and the draft. In other words, sometime in April.

This is a sore spot and a what might have been...

Grier was hired because he was not part of the Parcells entourage. What he should have done was put Charley Armey in charge of the whole shootin' match.

Instead, Armey goes to the Rams and runs college scouting and pro personnel. Trades for Faulk, finds Kurt Warner, drafts Torry Holt and wins a SB.

The ironic thing as you stated, Kraft could have hired BB as head coach then in addition to Armey as GM to replace Parcells. Instead he hired a historically bad GM in Grier who even with extra first round draft picks could find a good player to save his life. BB had to totally clean house of his players when he took over.

One of the least examined outrages against the Pats is the charge, of the Pats taping the Rams pre-game walk through, two days before the 2007 Superbowl. Tomasse's involvment is well-chronicled, but it seems short shrift has been given to the original report that Tomasse ran with.

SpyGate is long gone. Goodell was king of the hill back then. Kraft kowtowed on that ruling. Since he has taken a strong power stance this time the ruling will have to show respect to Kraft's stand. This is between the Pats and NFL front office. No other owners aside from Irsay will want anything to do with this.

I hope your belief in the influence of Kraft to make Goodell to do the right thing is well founded. I disagree and we will see who is right. In the big picture what happens is irrelevent, Kraft will come out of it fine because he makes money for his beloved partners and the Pats reputation is already irrepairably damaged and has been since 2007 by the big capitulation. One other point Goodell can't use the " I am not responsible for what happens in my office"excuse after the Rice fiasco. He will look even more ridiculous and impotent than he already does and the media will chew him up.

Also, I think people are reading too much into Kraft's "no smoking gun here" statement the other day. I take that to mean "we didn't tamper with the balls and they won't find otherwise". Not "the league will issue an explicit, unequivocal exoneration and there won't even be a fine."
