Ray knocks a woman unconscious, drags her limp body out of an elevator and gets fined and a 2 game suspension. This is an actual crime even if someone doesn't press charges, it is still considered a criminal offense. The Ravens are without their RB for 2 games. Total cost of money lost for Rice: $529,411.24

The Patriots videotaped signals in an area of the stadium they shouldn't have been... they get punished by getting their 1st round draft pick stripped away, something you could argue affects the team for 10 years, they also get hit with a total of $750,000.00 in fines and the teams past and present accomplishments are called into question and forever "stained". Yet no actual criminal offense occurred nor was any human physically harmed.

    Seems fair.

The players should never have given the NFL the power to punish for non-football issues. Now every idiot who wants to feel morally superior mouths off as if losing hundreds of thousands of dollars is some light punishment.

October will be fun. I wonder if this get revisited.

Playing devil's advocate, this was his first offense. (Sharon Tate was Manson's first offense too, but let's forget that.)

Sorry Kontra, had to fix that for you. :)

Yet this brain surgeon marries the man afterwards. Go figure.

Edit: I may be wrong, but I don't believe that a 4-game suspension for failing a pee-pee test
for weed kicks in until the 3rd offense?

you don't get it, Stoney...smashing her face in and knocking her out PROVED his love for her...I mean he dragged her knocked out azz out of the elevator and into their room...that right there is PROOF of his love and total dedication. C'mon, smarten up, it's GOOD to be a Raven in Goodelworld these days.

it's a regular cornucopia of true manliness on display every day in Ray Rice's "Momma Said Knock You Out" playland.

The truly disturbing thing about this is that, according to Peter King (whatever else we might think about him, he does appear to have good contacts at the league office) one of the reasons that Goodell gave what amounts to a slap on the wrist to Rice is how impressed he was by his interview with Rice's wife and how she helped him determine that the situation had been addressed.

    Huh?

Is Goodell unaware that that deceiving herself that "everything's ok" is part of a text book response of an abused spouse?

No wonder several women I know are suspicious of the motives of the newly "pink" NFL and regard the League's outreach as a transparently insincere effort by the NFL to increase its female audience.

What will Goodell do when something else or worse happens between the Rices? What will he do when another NFL player abuses his spouse with the knowledge that the penalty will be light?

And NFL VP of labor policy has defended the NFL's actions, naturally:
    The link is here.

He also states that if the NFL weren't there to discipline Rice, he wouldn't have had any discipline at all. Well thank God for you, NFL! The issue isn't about condoning behavior. It's about the message you're sending regarding the seriousness of it. Take Adderall without an Rx and you're suspended four games for violating PED rules. Knock your fiance out and be suspended two games. It just doesn't add up to me.

But thankfully the NFL was there to discipline Rice else he would have gotten off scot free.

He actually came out and admitted it. Their objective was to show that they didn't "condone the behavior," not to demonstrate in unequivocal terms that "the NFL has zero tolerance for it." If they can't see the difference between those two statements, they need a lot of help.

It's like a parent saying to a school Principal, "We certainly don't condone little Johnny's pushing Mary down the steps and sending her to the ER, but what do you expect? Boys will be boys and she admitted that she called him names."

It's definitely been addressed, she's been training with Jay Glazer and is far more adapt at dodging and deflecting punches than she was last winter. Now if he can keep her in small areas, like say an elevator, then his chances of landing a good one increase geometrically, but in open space she has a fighters chance. Goodell looked closely at her 3 cone, her new 40 time, and her vertical and decided that the situation had improved dramatically.
